The reason why no one has heard this version, is because Gary Lewis is white and the son of Jerry Lewis. At the time Sammy's original version was making it's way up the charts. The Gary with the powerful influence of his father, removed Sammy's version from all radio stations, so Gary's version would be the only one. The color of Sammy's skin and many other black musicians kept them from being popularized in the music industry. Sammy was my father.
