Giulio Carmassi collected north of 2 million views on youtube before recording the album “Kin”, in 2014, with 20 time grammy award winner Pat Metheny. The album won both best jazz band and best jazz album on DownBeat magazine. On it, he can be heard on piano, brass, woodwind, mallets, voice, and cello.
While touring 42 countries with Metheny, as pianist, singer and trumpet player. Carmassi also toured with Will Lee’s band alongside Steve Gadd, on tenor sax, trumpet, organ, guitar, vocals and percussion.
Since 2016 he’s started scoring movies with Bryan Scary. The 2 have scored nearly 100 national commercials and more recently the movie “Black Bear” with Aubrey Plaza, and the 2022 Outfest winner “Please Baby Please” with Andrea Riseborough.
His latest record “A Dream of The House by The Cliff” is a romantic instrumental journey into his love for 70s music.
The deeper shell had that extra tone... but IF i was pressed for space... the shallow tom still didn't sound bad. Mounting a 14" tom over a kick if you aren't over 6 foot... lol... yeah, i'm goin with a shallow tom, it'll work!
One of the most satisfying amd actually useful filter comparisons iv seen. Came thingking 5089 forbsure but I'm really liking the 8106 roland sound. So much deeper bass response.
It is difficult to hear differences, especially if you are listening with a phone. I love Maple and Birch. I'm really getting to like Mahogany more and more. I've never been a fan of Walnut.
The genius of Pat Metheny has an everlasting affect on VERY many people, you are a true example of sheer genius as well ….. THANK YOU, and keep at it !!!! 😘
after the last dcp video on sq2 comparison: shell thickness /wood selection didn't make a lot of difference : particularly on the smaller toms. I think that what makes expensive drums sound better is: - the shell is regular (no air bubbles while the glue dried, is it round- square) - tight tolerances in machining/hand finishing of bearing edges - come with non cheap heads -better hoops -good tom suspension and..well.. USUALLY (and i saw some bad stuff..lol): when you are at a point of spending that much of money on expensive drums : you're most likely an experienced musician, therefore what you'll play, will sound better! ..and have better gear to record soooo,,, the wood type!?... fffff
The Grace 501 is so clean. Something about adding in coloration later... if at all, appeals to me. I do use ssl. The noise floor is bad on my unit. Also I found out their customer service is like talking to a hot chick with a bad personality. I've been using an api to track.
Giulio, it would be nice if you could edit the video and do a side by side clear and coated comparison like for the Remo ambassador and emperor. You could add it on at the end.
SD Vintage Hot Stack came out really well in this, to my ear. TV Jones too. The further back the humbucker got the more it came into its own, which is no great surprise i suppose.
I am just gonna say it. Ill get hell I am sure because of everybody nodding in unison and their overpaying for a kit. IT DOES NOT MATTER ONE BIT. Live you won't hear it and recording you can EQ/plugin it to whatever you want anyway. Hoops and heads, quality of craftsmenship WITHIN REASON... yes. Hardware? Just so it is decently built. The rest including mounting techniques. NOT NECESSARY. I am not saying that none of it makes a difference. I am saying the difference is so neglibable that it doesn't matter. By all means if you simply want a kit for aesthetics and have the money..... Just don't let the little come to you saying he needs a DW when a PDP will do just fine for years to come.
Love the coated and clear 2 ply and fyberskyn heads. It would've been nice to see hydraulics, black dots, pinstrips, and maybe powerstrokes thrown into the mix.
I just bought a 1980’s Gretsch USA Custom power-tom kit… LOVING them! I grew up on Matt Frenette (Loverboy) and his power tom kit - just heaven to see and hear!
