Yes boys and girls, this is why you don’t cut down trees unless you absolutely have too, because they take generations to regrow back. Hard to watch those cut down great trees that took 100 years to grow.

The most terrible...frequently they die in Europe after 200-300 years. Funny? 200-300 for us is too much! But for the sequoias it is like 10 years baby death. My own 10 dendrons only 4 years. And today problem - where to implant them from the pots? Crimea or Caucasus? Both ways expensive - to transport then from Siberia. Caucasus soil very wet and far from original. I know one 4 year tree in Adler arboretum with permanent big problem. Better for Taxodium and Metasequoias. Crimea is a good place. But local administration don't aloud that - they keep only endemic, local forms of the trees, yellow pines...which growth there many billions years! Ahahaaha! Good way to do nothing and make face, you do greet job. At the same time they easy give orders to cat old rare species in nature reserves, to build there big villas for rich businessmen and officials. There is little space for trees - these places are needed for the luxurious life of the elite. And this is a real problem. Enormous Russia, its hundreds of thousands of rich people want to buy places to live on tiny coastal areas of Crimea and the Caucasus, in the mountains. And for them to buy local officials to cut down a grove of 200-year-old Lebanese cedars is as easy as pie. Of course, they promise to plant new trees in another place... But these are just words. Look at their words about yellow pines. These people have no soul, desire or ability to do anything useful.

I believe the older they get the faster they grow. When grown domestically if well cared for they can reach their full height in 100 years.

Very cool documentary on your trees. 🌲 🌲 I just recently planted a seedling that I ordered from an online nursery. It’s in a 2 - 2.5 gallon pot for now. Hopefully I can transplant it into a larger pot in 2-3 years from now. On another note, does anyone have advice on what fertilizer works best for potted giant sequoias?

Your patience is inspiring, I planted one as well in our weekend cottage in the mountains in Serbia and I'll be back in a week for another visit and see it's progress along with other specimens which I brought over from the States.

Thank you for sharing this. I live in California. I have always loved the Sequoia trees (coastal redwoods as well as the giant sequoias). I just started germinating some seeds I brought back from trip to see the Sequoias. I wish I had started this project 20 years ago, but better late than never. These trees will outlive us all and many generations after us. I hope to leave the world a better place than I found it. It’s these little acts of kindness that matter. One note I would like to make is that these giant sequoias have shallow roots and they grow better in groves. Plant other sequoias near them as the hold each other up by interweaving their roots. One of the main reasons of their death is just falling over. Thank you for sharing this beautiful journey.
