You can use this knot with less tag. Why is that important? You can use this knot for dropper flies. The longer your dropper the more likely it will tangle.

Hi. Will this work in winter? On the Trinity in Nor Cal this coming week and I've never seen or tried this but am very interested.

what is a good knot for really small tippet (6-8x) when you may not have much tag end such on a dropper tag? I've been tying the clinch knot my whole life but it seems to break really easily on small tippet. I dont like using it on anything smaller than 5x.

This knot is amazing. I've caught 25 lb. salmon on 8# leader. No problem.

Thanks so much. Was just shown this today by a guide. I just didn’t quite follow it with the light tippet in the sun. Great demo!!

I tied my own variation of this fly after watching this video and caught a 10lb steelhead at the Deschutes with it just last week. I'm a believer.

When I see decked out fly fisherman I just laugh. Why do you make it so complicated? Been fishing for 70 years and know that it's not that hard.

Can I use any rod for this? I mean, I use a ten foot 4 wt now for a mono leader. Can I use the same rod for micro-leaders? Thanks much, and keep up the good work! Toney

This knot leaves a fine tippet material, such as 5X, distorted into a stubborn curve just beyond the eye.

Excellent video. Especially the teaching point where the tag end of the surgeons knot for the dropper must be facing toward the point fly.

Great way to tie the 1620! I've been tying it the way Devon Olsen of Tactical Fly Fishers does. He hooks the fly point into his finger to hold it. I like swinging it around much better. But of course, he's a better man than I am.

Great video and thank you for putting descriptions in the video via diagrams of the Different water types you were explaining as I haven’t seen this done on other videos nearly as much and in most cases not at all. I am new to your channel and wish I found it a while ago as it is very very informative.

This is without a doubt, hands-down, the best video on RU-vid that I have seen out of dozens regarding tying a euro nymph trout leader. The whiteboard diagram was exceptional and lacking in all the other videos that I’ve seen. The close-up camera work was also exceptional and extremely helpful. Wonderful job and please keep putting out such awesome videos! PS: I just picked up a Contact 2, Thomas and Thomas euro nymphing rig with a Galvan 3.7 real completely set up to fish but if I ever need to change my leader system or redo the current one, I will be referring to this video which I have saved. Thank you!

On streamers, pull out the knot after tying and you now have a loop, it will slide tight when you hook up.

When ready to start fishing, drop the leader that wrapped the back of the reel into the water as shown, but try a few taps on the rod with your finger and any light fly will bounce off the eyelet and into the water. I usually hook the fly up the rod as far as I can reach so the tap drrops the fly further out and has more line out.

Great video! Finally someone who understands how to properly euro cast! I’ve always called it the lasso cast 🤠 or an oval cast but helicopters are cool 🤙

The COMPLETE HELICOPTER comes 360 around you with rod tip circling your head. When done properly, its can be used to cast up under low hanging vegetation or other obstructions.
