A trail called poppyfields in the china bowl area? Is that referring to China's opium epidemic in the 1800's? lol thats pretty dark and borderline racist or maybe i am looking into this a little too much🤷
Lol that's nothing vail and Beavercreek are just big bombs because of the incompetent Un educated inexperienced kids they have running that shit show but hey they work pennies and are too stupid to realize how dangerous everything is buy hey that can all be covered up and or fixed with free passes lol OSHA needs to pay a visit in off season and ask about shoreing the proper fittings for underground use lol I can go on on
the snow quality is no different than any other mountain in CO, and ive experienced relatively little wait for lift lines compared to other mountains in NA, never waited more than a few minutes and usually go about 20 days a year, also there is free parking serviced by a free shuttle but i guess some poser that is talking shit on the internet bc its fashionable to hate on vail arbitrarily wouldnt know that ❤
Excellent thorough video and having just returned, definitely accurate. What were they thinking when they lead everyone to Whitestar? I tried to avoid it, but once you start at the lower slopes, there is no way back!!!
I’m a little surprised that “Vail Resorts” the company was part of the disclaimer as something not to hate at. Affiliates and the Mountain understandable, especially over the accidents, but I would’ve expected every major skier to hate the conglomerate.
Sunlight is one my favorite ski areas I've visited. It's not Vail if you're looking for fancy, but it doesn't have any of the hassles and expense either. Just a chill local area. Beautiful area.
I know this video is exaggerated a ton but I really liked Vail when I was there. Granted there were no crowds on any of the days and one of them was a powder day so I guess I havent seen any of the truly bad
I wanna go to vail cause I wanna go to all the resorts at least once but dam being stuck on a lift with a rich snob and hot heads sounds awful 😅 gotta find a super slow day to go
@@SRGSkiing big oof but I ain’t paying all that money for a lift ticket to wait in lines! Affluent it is, I just hope their Porsche doesn’t hit me on the I70
I once shared a lift with a 70 yr old dude telling me how rich he is that he can feel free to park in the vail parking garage instead of taking the bus/shuttle 😂
Ykw, I've had one super nice experience with a rich guy who has a house out by Beaver Creek. Met him on the lift, he was super nice, we skied together all morning. However, I have also had several negative experiences, and quantitatively, several bad>one good
Hahahaha! I was there over 20 years ago and most of what you say was even true then! I lived right across the road, I could actually walk across and get on a lift, but I don’t think I did a single full day there in the 2 months I was there cause pretty much everywhere else was always better. It was good for a couple of hours of night turns after work, but that was about it.
You didn't mention that they lie about their acreage, claiming to have 6000 acres of terrain. Even with everything open, which is almost never, they have 4000 acres. Mapping programs can easily prove this now days. Even with everything open, some terrain requires hiking and traversing for up to 45 minutes to reach (Grouse Rock), but fortunately much of the hike to terrain at Alpine is closed most of the time anyway. And did you mention rain? Rain has become a standard skiing condition on the lower mountain with a base elevation of just 6200' compared to Mt Rose (7900') or Kirkwood (7800'). And I don't think you mentioned that you need parking reservations now on weekends and holidays because the resort just got too crowded after they built the gondola that was promised to reduce traffic and crowding. Yeah right! Speaking of, they spent $65 million on a lift that doesn't open up one square inch of new terrain, in fact it reduced the amount of terrain by blocking access to the Saddle area on KT and now squeezing everyone into a narrow cat track. And if you want to ski powder on KT, you have to get in line at 7:30 for your one semi powder run with a bunch of aggressive a-holes. By the time you get up the lift the second time it will all be skied out. They used to open up the entire mountain at once so that everyone could spread out, but now they open it in increments to ensure that a huge crowd assembles at each next lift to open.
I think a lot of this is snow dependent. I just got back from Coronet Peak where (finally) they had a big dump after a pretty terrible winter. I had a really good time. If you can catch it in good conditions, it is a blast as there are all sorts of pockets to get lost in, but...more often than not, Coronet is icy and earns its nickname "Concrete Peak". If I was advising a group of intermediates where to go, Cardrona would be the hands down winner. But, like you said, it is really lacking in challenge--much more so than Coronet in my opinion.
I'm an American who has been living in New Zealand for 19 years. I think this was pretty accurate and it was cool to see so many runs I have skied. Like a few others have mentioned, the club fields are a whole other thing altogether. The only place I know of with the same vibe as the clubs in the US is Mad River Glen. Temple Basin is just magical. One other thing: it is hard to find good bump skiing in NZ. The bumps don't build up and Kiwis in general do not care for them. While you see some small ones occasionally, there is no equivalent to a North American bump run with massive moguls.
Skiing is so much better now that Vail Corp has successfully eliminated the poors from the slopes. I hated having to deal with lower class people while skiing. The 90s were terrible as lift tickets were still affordable to the gutter class. Hail Vail Corp!
They should just do some tree thinning in that area between the bends of California Trail. It _would_ be great glades (like Pinnacles / Ski Way) but it's just too dense of a thicket right now.
