Beautiful paintings. But since you are talking about what message she is trying to convey; I have a question. In high school literature class, we had to discuss this question. What was the author trying to say? As a teenager, I never understood why everyone was so concerned with the message. Wasn't the story enough? Now 50+ years later, I am asking the same question about artworks. Isn't the art itself enough? Why does there always have to be an inner message? Why can't the art just speak for itself? You either like it, love it, or hate it. As an artist myself, am I doing it wrong if I am doing my art for the sheer pleasure of doing it? Do I have to be saying something in my work? In my opinion, I do not believe that I do. I seIe this all the time when I see these gallery videos. Everyone is trying to interpret something from the art. Why does there have to be something to interpret? I see art as either something I like or don't like. I have never looked at art, or literature for that matter, as anything that I have to dig for some deeper meaning than what is already visible to the viewer or the reader. I can only imagine what anyone would try to interpret from my work. It would be 100% imagination on their part because there would be nothing to interpret from my point of view as the artist. If I don't like one of my pieces, I turn it into something else. How can there possibly be any inner message from that? Is this just something that is the fun of art for the collector or viewer or reader, to spend time trying to figure out what the artist or author was really trying to say, as if there were something else being said instead of what was put there in the work itself? Does the art lose its value if there is nothing to interpret? Does the art not stand on its own without an interpretation?

An exhibition of the art world's pretensions....me too, either I love it or leave it and don't have time to waste pondering deeper meanings in the layers....I'd rather be painting

Mr. Norm Busse was my high school art teacher. This is so amazing to see that he is still painting. I came across this in my suggestions as I watch a lot of Canadian art docs and videos. I now know what I'm saving up for! An original Norm Busse painting

How poised and knowledgable Roslyn Levin is. Clever brush maker, too! And lovely work, presented by a genuinely interested interviewer. Nicely done. Thank you for sharing Roslyn’s world of sumi-e.

I really loved listening to Christi explain her work. Like you I wasn’t previously aware of her practice. I’m drawn to the thoughtful inclusion of the spirituality & history that is she draws from her personal background. I will be looking more deeply into her work now as I’d love to learn more.

Really incredible work. Important subjects being addressed here with what on the surface appears playful. Environmental concerns, human overconsumption, a loss of our youth and our ability to reverse some of these things while there still remains some time. Thoughtful and beautiful.

Great interview Joanne! Juneyt is a true gem..great entertainer, interesting history, a gentle soul. It was a pleasure listening to this interview. You were on my mind because your name came up as a "mutual friend" on Dave Huber's FB site. I'm guessing your paths crossed at some point. He's a Brantford artist/son of Barb Huber who I've been looking after for a few years in Guelph.. I was showing his Mum his latest paintings from his Algonquin trip this fall and surprise..there you were as a MF. So I decided to check out what's been happening on your website and see that we have Juneyt (and Leona Boyd..another story..another time.) in common as well. Interesting. Small world indeed! Several of us dancers consider ourselves sort of "groupppppies' ..have followed him to many K/W "and beyond" venues (many at The Duke) since he came to this area. One of my friends prides herself..calling him her "adopted stepson". Loved the flamenco dancer too..have seen her perform before. Very talented..lovely lady. Anyways,..long intro as to what brought me to this page...felt inclined to say "hi" and tell you how much I enjoyed it. Will be forwarding this clip to my groupie friends. Hope you and Orest are doing ok during these difficult times. You look wonderful, as always! I see you've continued to evolve and move forward, regardless of our predicament. Good for you. Think of you often. When you have time, would love to do lunch! Ps..I have some old magazines I came across while clearing out basement... thought Marjolyn van de Hart could put then to good use (after seeing your interview). Do you have a contact for her? Maybe I'll look for her website. Blessisngs..Merry Christmas. Stay safe.

As one of the 10 students in this program I can comfortably speak to the great benefits that I received. A warm, safe, tought at times, environment filled with experienced guidance and heartfelt encouragement. I developed friendships with the other 9 students that remain in place today. Should a second opportuntiy come along to become a "Take 6" student I highly recommend to all that you do so.
