Nice vid. I have both 27mm lenses. The Voigtlander is definitely better, and, of course, one stop faster. For people shots, I prefer AF lenses and thus the Fuji, though. For still subjects, the VL is great. Also, the VL produces great sunstars starting at f/3.2, which for me, perhaps weirdly, is a bonus.
I sometimes use my old Canon AE1 on my Fuji X T5 ; my very first lens (sometimes I even use it on my old Canon AE1 with a film inside). The only issue with this manual old lens I can not change aperture when it's on the digital camera (on analogue it works). Sometimes when I do street with the 35mm f1.4 Fuji I also put ISO a bit higher, set the aperture to 11 and then put the focus into the range I want- then I can be quicker and better than using autofocus even in street as the cam sees sometimes something I don't want to focus so it's always good to do. I'm still interested in buying the Voigtländer but I have the 23mm f2, the 35mm f1.4 and the 50mm f 1.8 (Canon) and also the 10-24mm f4 so I don't really need it but I like the quality and the form factor. Also about your dials on the X-T50 ; I think you can change that in the menu; I can in my X-T5 and I have that function too but at a different place! xD
Wow, that sounds like a pretty nice setup and collection of lenses you have 🙌🏿. I definitely understand the itch to buy the Voigtlander. It feels like you'd be completing a set (to some degree). Yeah, I've been playing around with the dial settings on the X-T50 and I think I was able to make them work for me for shooting manual focus.
yo tbh honest, some of the missed focus shots are cool! they still have a specific vibe to them. i guess because they aren’t perfect what makes them also interesting. 😊
Haha, thank you🙏🏿 Yeah, I definitely think there can be a stylistic quality to out of focus photos when done intentionally. Unfortunately, I wasn't doing it intentionally lol 😅
Good video! But the iso controll has never changed from xt20 to xt30 or xt50 it has always been on that wheel. The fil simulation dial replaced the drive mode dial. I really like the drive mode dial.
Understood. What I meant was (coming from the X-Tx series) there was no ISO dial. What Fuji should have done is do the dual ISO dial/drive mode ring for the X-T50 like they have on the X-T5.... but then where would they put the flash switch? 😅😅
Absolutely right. A Fuji insider told me that the XT50 was created as a replacement for the x100 because orders on that camera couldn't be fulfilled., and that they wanted to shift interest away from the x100 over to the xt50.
Nice review. I really like the way you presented both collars, but there's one thing that I don't agree with. You pointed out that SmallRig collar slides from the side, and that's a disadvantage. L-brackets are mounted exactly the same way, and I wouldn't say that's good or bad. It's just different. Same with Atoll mounting like a long lens with dedicated collar. It never bothered me to a point that I would say one is better than the other. It's just a nature of the design.
It's 200 bucks too expensive and the fact that its not weathersealed (also not dust sealed). Those are the deal breakers. So either they seal it or they lower the price. Or even better: both.
As a new beginner and for a long term use, do you think it worth to get this camera with the 16-50 lens for £1240 or a XT30ii with the 18-55mm lens for £865? Thanks for the video!
For long term use (if price isn't a huge factor), I would probably just say go with the X-T50 combo. It has all the same things as the X-T30II plus the 40mp sensor, an updated processor, IBIS, and better video capabilities. It's super easy to use with it's full auto mode but leaves plenty of room for you to grow as a photographer.
Hey dude! Great video! Here’s some nerdy crap for you- The super colorful light leaks you’re using as a reference are mostly a result of light leaking into film cameras and the big color shifts are because of the reaction of light bouncing off of the film itself and therefore reflecting the color cast of the orange based film back onto itself either from the front of the lens (orange) or from behind the camera body (blue). Also, I’m not certain on this, but I’m pretty sure you might get some better results from a harder light source like a phone light instead of the very diffused light from the rgb light you were using. All in all a cool concept for a lens but I think I’d rather just do some free-lensing/lens-whacking
Great to have a Film Simulation hardware dial on top of the camera, except it has to be set to 'C' all the time, so it is basically useless. Did I understand that correctly?
It doesn't have to be set to 'C' all the time, but it's best if you keep it there if you're using Custom Recipes. If you just want to use the standard film simulations, go ahead and spin that dial lol.
I often change the dial even when i am in cudtom recipes if i want to change the look of a specific recipe quickly. For example Vivid for quickly adding color. Bleach Bypass for removing some colors etc.
Definitely! You can switch to full auto and still use the film simulation dial to get different looks. Then (when you're ready) you can switch it out of full auto and experiment with different settings and results.
Very nice that you share your experience, I love it thanks! I'm surprise to see that you don't seem to use the view finder but why not. So you have the Voiglander 27mm (and the X-T5 also) it would be great if you could tell us more about this lens 😍 What's the image quality, the bohkey, especialy that you seem to have another 27mm lens to compare with.
Best video I've seen talking about this lens. Testing out the RGB was a fun idea. Did you have any issues getting the lens to work initially, as it's not recognized as a lens by the camera?
Thanks! Yes the RGB was fun to use with this lens. I didn't have too much trouble using the lens because I had already changed the setting in my camera to work with it. I actually talked about it in this vid ru-vid.comHj2RPCa0FkQ?si=RFaByShfXD-T1GZo
I find it funny how everybody criticized the lens which is obviously not made by him so he can't do anything about it however nobody stopped to say how fire this video was. Keep going❤
When will Fuji finally get the autofocus under control? I don't understand the developers! All other brands are better in this! I love Fuji but sometimes I hate it when an important picture is blurry!!
Yeah, I totally get that can be frustrating. I personally haven't had many problems with the autofocus on the Fuji X-T50, but it's DEFINITELY not as good as the autofocus on my A7CII.
I think I'll wait for the rumored X-M5 or X-E5, since I already got the small entry level but slr-styled body (X-T100) and been wanting a rangefinder-styled body for a while now.
So I bought all three of their lenses on a xt50 and xt5. I tested them last week. They are all f14 manual but not manual. The center is ehh the rest is not sharp. The problem with the lens is the way it's designed is a sharp edge where the glass is so it makes a line across half your image. I've returned all of them and am in discussing with the owners to help them make it better.
Yeah a littke gimmicky. For a constant aperture, i rarher just use their filter for the look snd add the leaks manually. I rather capture the moment snd add after thab maybe miss the miment
I truly appreciate you making this video. I was about to order this lens and now I'd rather stick with my cheap Tamron 24mm and just make my own edits in LR. I was hoping it would satisfy the need for a pancake lens which Sony doesn't have at the moment. Maybe time to switch back to Fuji 🤷🏽♂
@@Caballeroshot Yeah, I think that's a good call. However, if you're looking for a Sony pancake lens, I've been using the Sony 16mm f2.8 on my A7Cii. It's an APSC lens, but if you use it in crop mode it'll get you to that 24mm focal length. It's also an older lens, but I've been digging the quality I've been getting from it.
@@BrayGrayy thanks for the recommendation. I was looking for something small in size like the Polar Pro lens since I already have a 24mm prime that is tiny compared to my 24-105 anyway.
Cool idea but the softness is way too strong as you get away from the center. Would have been a better effect if the transition to the edges was more gradual.
Hey! Enjoyed this video. I’m picking up a used GRIII as an EDC and I’m looking forward to using it. What gives me pause is the 28mm equivalent focal length vs the 40mm equivalent in the GRIIIx. Like most, I live mainly in that 35mm-50mm focal range so this will be a challenge. But for my use case, I’d prefer the slightly wider FOV for (indoor) scenes with friends and family.
Nice! The Ricoh GRiii is a great little camera. It does give you the option to crop in to 35mm and 50mm equivalent, but I wouldn't bother with the 50mm crop because you lose so much resolution. The 35mm is fairly usable though.
@@BrayGrayy I just got the Ricoh today and I am blown away how good the IQ is out of camera. The camera came with the Pentax AF201FG flash and it complements it perfectly. It's wild having such a large sensor in such a little body. It's going to be a great little EDC. And yes, the 35mm crop mode works great. It definitely validated my decision of going with the GRIII rather than the GRIIIx.
Extremely insightful video. I was on the fence about the X-T50 and X-T5 and this tilts the scales toward the X-T50 for me. I'm not trying to take pro shots in the rain :D Subscribed 👍
Hi Bray, just want to say I appreciate your very helpful videos with clear, concise and calm explanation! Ive just got an X-T50 and have set up some film sim recipes using the custom settings in My Menu. So using C1, C2 and C3 respectively I've set up Kodachrome, Portra 400, HP5. However I cannot save these settings as they're always greyed out. Plus when I take the film sim dial out of 'C' and try to use another built in film sim, my previous custom settings are still active (ISO NR, sharpness, shadow etc). Its is almost like I am stuck with whichever custom recipe I last used, when I come out of it the settings remain. I've tried many things to see why the save changes are greyed out. I would be grateful if you could help with this. Cheers, Paul.
Thanks Paul, I appreciate you saying that 🙏🏿. In regards to the issues you're having, are you sure your auto switch (connected to the shutter dial) is off? Also, in the your settings menu do you have 'auto update custom setting' (the option just below 'Edit/Save custom setting) disabled?
@@BrayGrayy Hi again Bray and thanks a lot for responding. Yes I checked I wasn't in automode (I was in aperture mode), the auto edit/save was disabled too. This morning I was thinking about camera format settings that may be blocking me, so I took the camera out of 'Fine + RAW' and left it in just 'Fine'. Then I was able to save film recipe custom settings 'C2' and 'C3', and then 'C1' was locked / greyed out. I explored the camera further and saw that 'face detection' was enabled, so I turned that off and I was able to save my first 'C1' film sim recipe, no longer greyed out. Am I correct in saying that I have to only be in Fine mode (and not Fine + RAW), and no face detection to save film simulation recipes? Thanks in advance, Paul.
Hmm, I hadn't heard of that before. You should be able to use Fine JPG + RAW and still use custom recipes. There has to be something else in the settings, but I'm not sure what 🤔
Hi Bray, enjoy your videos with clear and concise explaining. Very helpful. I've just got an X-T50 and busy learning / setting it up. I've programmed 3 film simulation recipes (Kodachrome, Portra 400, HP5) into MY menu as C1, C2, C3 respectively. However, if for example I go into my menu, select the edit/save custom setting, the 'save the changes' is always greyed out. I have changed the camera to manual, shutter speed, aperture and I still get the same problem. I can edit the custom name, check I've entered the settings correctly, BUT I cannot save the changes. Problem now is when I change the film sim dial to another simulation, my previous custom settings (ISO NR, colour, sharpness etc.) are still active. Its almost like I am locked into the last custom film simulation recipe. Sorry for the long winded message, but it's frustrating as the 'save the changes' option is always greyed out. Any info would be great,
