Congress of Vienna was able to avoid a major war in Europe for 100 years.

Charles II was smart. He knew he had to be very careful with Parliament and he refused publicly to become a Catholic when Louis XIV tried to convince him. Charles was a clever politician and converted to Catholicism only at his death bed. His brother James II was probably not as diplomatic but he was without a doubt illegally overthrown.

I have been addicted to the writing of Alexandre Dumas because his books have so much history of France, Spain and England. He wrote so much about all the intrigues of these courts, especially about the Medici and Margarite de Valois. Humanity hasn’t changed much since the intrigues continues to this day. The lies and deceit never cease to go away.

Hortense did not accept the King's offer to be an official mistress as she was given death threats by her husband if she did. This would be a very smart move as if she had accepted she would have had a tough life at court and would have been constantly bullied by the Dauphin and the mesdames. She not accepting the role like her other sisters would also save her from the guillotine 50 years later. She died in 1799 a few days short of the new century

Amazing how Cardinal Richelieu was hated by the French people. Didn’t Richelieu obtain territory for France which gave her more bargaining power with her enemies?

I really don’t know why Louis XVI was guillotined. France was in financial trouble because they spent so much money on supporting the Revolution in America. But look what happened to France after the monarchy was overthrown. The reign of terror was horrible with the killing of all those innocent people. Then the Napoleonic wars with all the French soldiers being killed. When monarchies are overthrown the people who succeed the monarch are worse.

Getting V.D. Was very stupid. He must have been a drinker. Was he? The paintings are great and beautiful details. They have light, portraits, boats and Venice. The world was beautiful then. The night had too be hard to light then.

Before i click this video, i know that the marriage wouldn't last long. As someone who has fascination with the Romanovs and Jacobite claims, i already know what kind of man Charles or known as Bonnie Prince Charlie just look at his mistress clementina suddenly leaving Charles alongside Charlotte who he doesn't recognize mind you when they leave Charlotte was 7 at that time, she was only recognize when Charles was on his deathbed but sadly the deed is already done because due to her "illegitimacy" of not being recognized by her father she had a hardtime marrying within the nobility so she became a mistress to a Prince bishop of France but she did manage to have 3 children, her descendant through her daughter who went on to married twice and produce descendants was the ancestor of polish count. Also I wish you to cover Charlotte & Clementina as they deserve to be mention in history just like Louise of Stolberg

There was so much hate between "religion people", that Henri was trying to humiliate Margot with open affairs and forcing her to leave.. Even she saved his life once, he will not return that favor to her in time when she will need a help the most, he will keep to humiliate her in front of the court till the end. Disgusting time for women, even the titles and money would't help, even more disgusting is that parents were not trying to help, or to change the law for their female children! Fact; not everyone should't be alowed to have children! -Margot -Dorothea -Georgiana and many, many more..

She told Napoloeon she would never be happy for the rest of her life and she lived through that. An unhappy, bored woman just trying to be high until the end of her days is what I get from the video.

My only experience of Italian culture is with their “ heart -achingly beautiful cars “. Nobody does it better . Like Ferrari have had their cars styled by Pininfarina the other styling house was Bertone. Talking of which Georgia Meloni got driven to the G7 summit with no less than the pope . How is that for the ultimate publicity shot !!! Although the previous pope was driven around the test track at Modena with no less than Enzo Ferrari !!!!

Queen Mary felt inferior because she was descended from a "morgantic" marriage. As a result, Queen Mary was a Serene Highness instead of a Royal Highness. The Tecks were always in debt. Although popular, Queen Mary's mother was rather obese and a poor money manager. Because of their debts, the Tecks often lived abroad to save money. It is unlile;y that Princess May would have been happy married to the dim-witted, weak-willed Albert Victor.

What a delightful video biography! Thank you so much for the clear exposition of such a troubled century, with this admirable woman as the central character of the narrative. You say that she had everything but good fortune...Maybe she did not have the fortune to marry the love of her life, but she was obviously blessed with a bright brain and a strong constitution, and she had the fortune to be able to cultivate her mind and surround herself with other bright and creative minds. And she lived a relatively long life! If I had a time machine, I would like to visit her during her last years in Paris. She must have been a fascinating person to converse with.

Things were different back in the day. When a king took an official mistress, there was nothing that the wife could do. But yet in the end Diane lost everything. You get what you put into.
