Thanks for the video, great work. Do you not consider doing your slow/long/recover runs slower 5:30/6 m/km? Just interested your thoughts :)
@LARKRunningUK
@LARKRunningUK 11 дней назад
Hi Osian, I generally run on feel/HR for my easy/recovery runs and have no specific pace in mind. I aim stay below 140bpm and in Z2 during them and don’t look at pace. My Z1 HR is below 134, and Z2 is 134-151bpm. If I’m fatigued I naturally slow to around 5.20-5.45/k, but that’s not planned. For long runs I run at various paces depending on the plan……

Hey there, i wanna start walking/jogging, hopefully transition to running after a few months. Which would be a good choice, Adidas Duramo Speed or NB 680 v7?? Between this 2 choices, cause i can get them at around 40 USD, i can also get NB propel v4 at half the price 55 USD (or is it a bit overkill for jogging?) im on the heavy side and i wanna start walk/jog for health purposes, nothing to crazy, probably 3-4 times a week
@LARKRunningUK
@LARKRunningUK 17 дней назад
All solid choices and for that price, a great deal. If you’re walking and jogging I’d probably lean towards the more comfortable ones, so NB would be the way to go. Start slow and build up gradually. Let me know how you get on…..

Hi i dont know if u want an update, but i got the propel v4 for 40 USD. So far so good. Did 3 km of slow jogging on them on the day i got them. Fit is weird though, im usually size 9US but i got the 8.5 instead cause 9 was too long. 8.5 length already had an allowance of about half inch, the mid part of my feet is snug. More than im used to, but not too bad (or maybe it is?). I hoping this will break in good, i might be size 8.75US in the propel LOL. Although it could also be that im just not used to jogging, but my feet does hurt on certain spots. I wanna thank you for your help man.

Yes no problem. For the 10k the best workouts are 10x 1k and 5x 2k intervals. The avg pace you can run those reps (with 2mins walk rec in between) is a decent indicator of 10k fitness. Work on getting those intervals faster and your 10k time will improve 👍🏻

Great vid - I love trail running too. As you say, it can be almost meditative. Stick on some relaxing tunes (or even just listen to birdsong/sounds of nature) and you can almost feel like your in a movie. You did say it but on the injury front a couple of things to underline. Until you get used to trail running, try to keep them a little shorter than you would for a road run and carry more fule/hyrdration than you think you'll need. You'll use more energy and work muscles you don't normally so a bit like starting running for the first time it's easy to push your body too far too fast - just ease into it. Also, for more 'off piste' or longer runs it might be worth taking a small first aid kit (Harrier Trail Running sell a good one) and maybe even a small headtorch if setting off in the evenings in the later months of the year. Also, consider a wind breaker for the winter months as it can drop cold. You'll not need any of this 95% of the time - but if something goes wrong and you do roll an ankle or do something else which stops you in your tracks you'll really appeciate being 'over' prepared. Finally, be extra careful/a bit slower when you are towards the end of your run and / or tired. I've only managed to cause myself a major mischief a couple of times and both were when I was going too fast and was tired.
@LARKRunningUK
@LARKRunningUK 4 месяца назад
Great advice. I didn’t think about the first aid kit, as touch wood, I’ve never really had a mishap yet. And yes depending on the time of year extra layers would likely be useful! Thanks for watching….👍🏻

@@LARKRunningUK - a couple of years ago I fell and twisted my ankle pretty badly running along a river bank about a mile from home and had to hobble back. Wife didn't answer her phone till I was practically home 🙄😂. Could have really used something to make a splint from and a coat (evening so dropped cold really quick when I stopped running). I kept thinking that if I had been more isolated / further away it could have been far worse. I tend to think of the extra weight as 'good for training' and overpack now 😅

Hey Lark, good to check in again. I love a bit of cycling , most frequently as a commute but I'm keen to get my stamina back up over the warmer months. Its been a few years, probably since lockdowns that I've done more than say 90 mins cycling in a go. I was a competitive cyclist long ago, so I get into easily. Very similar recovery ideas, although never tried yoga. I'd add in ice packs, or rather bags of frozen peas or corn to help treat particularly sore muscles. After running, excuse the pun, into some stiff sore knee issues after the Cardiff half Marathon last autumn, I've been looking for a more sustainable routine for my veteran legs. I became intrigued by the approaches of a couple of injury prone elite runners, GB runner Elliot Giles and an an american collegiate champion, Parker Valby. Both run very limited miles but do a lot on the elliptical trainer and Giles cycles regularly. My target is 4-5 days running a week, cross train on top of that, walk or cycle the commute, etc.
@LARKRunningUK
@LARKRunningUK 4 месяца назад
Hey Aidan, good to hear from you. I need to probably do more cycling as CV wise it’ll be beneficial. Yeh it’s not rocket science, it’s best to listen to the body and adjust when needed. Touch wood, I’m managing my load well and avoiding injuries 👍🏻 You should try yoga, I thought I was flexible until I tried it. Now I think it’s probably the main thing helping me stave off niggles….
