The Anti-Tribalism Movement is a non-profit organisation aimed at educating and raising awareness about the effects of tribalism within communities. The ATM’s vision and track record is based on a cohesive and dynamic society where every person’s opinion is valued regardless of clan, gender or political belief.
Has ATM stepped away from its drive towards eradicating clanism from Somalia? I remember that was a key objective in your initial stages IIRC there was even a documentary where the founders go to Mogadishu and arrange a talk. If the org has moved away from clanism, wouldn't it be better if it changed its name? (Also, I hate to be critical but I advisedly used clan instead of tribalism because of course we are one ethnicity with several clans, so tribes do not exist with Somalis).
We are still dedicated to fighting clanism/Tribalism in Somalia. Changing our name could signal a new direction, so it's important to consider the recognition the current name has built.
I get where you're coming from. There is more to life than grades 100%. But imagine if you fled conflict in your home country, learnt a whole new language, adapted to a whole new culture, struggled 24/7 just to make sure your child didn't have to worry about a thing, always prioritised their needs over yours, sometimes barely even making ends meet just so your son or daughter had a better chance at life than you did. In the hopes that one day, the long road of grafting, sleepless nights and sacrifice will all be worth it. You envision a future where your child will one day take care of you, just as you took care of them for all those years. And they turn around one day and say, "You know what? GCSEs don't mean a thing". Personally, I would question if it was all worth it. Your parents wanted one thing from you. Just one. To succeed in education. And you couldn't even give them that.
