gotta realize its movement continual movement we must work against by our opponent. nobody leaves their hand out there just...hanging. Nobody fights that way, and it is sometimes luck that we can grab...and realize you might miss and get busted or get punched back. So it's a game of chance, percentage at best. What you must do is prepare for secondary move, or even instinctive 3rd move. that comes with time and practice. I am lowly 1st dan but have been a student since 1968
Sorry for being late to the conversation but, don't count yourself out. That was really good insight and in old school karate, it took people years to move through each kyu rank....long story short, they were ridiculously good. Anyway, best of luck and keep up good work!
Great execution, though if I may. Try and tighten up the distance in which you perform this. Both uke are too far from one another, thus the punches and kicks wouldn't be effective in a combative situation. So the movements are innocuous, and don't give a proper sense of urgency to commit to the technique. Also, both uke are not visually engaged with one another, no mitsuke. "First hit is with your eyes". Overall the kumite looks crisp and correct. I wonder, did your dojo train with Hanshi Yamashita? It's a pretty unique set as far as yakusoku kumite goes.
