Planning is my biggest struggle so I think I need to check out your book. I am all about analog planning for my home school and my life give me a paper and pen over Computer any day of the week. I find it quite cathartic. It’s the organizing part that I fumble through. I love that you say I don’t have to have a checkbox for everything I was putting undue pressure on myself. Thank you.

I have found that the best organization is the one that keeps things simple and works with how your brain already organizes things.

Right now in my life I am not excited to start homeschooling this year. Our family is going through so many hardships especially financially that I can't buy new curriculum this year and have to reuse what I had last year or find free curriculum. Plus, I will have to work too. It's very overwhelming for me.

Amen! I’ve been homeschooling for 18 years (9 children) and boy, you hit the nail on the head. ❤️ I’m so glad each year, I take a more gentle and less is more approach! Teaching from rest and using a Thomas Jefferson Education with some Charlotte Mason sprinkled in. It’s taken me YEARS to trust a child’s self learning, but it works. Love Generation Cedar’s philosophy of just teaching the basics. I reread her book every year, reminding myself not to give in to the fancy curriculum (because, let’s face it, they’ll never get through all of it and forget most of it!) We live watching history documentaries and creating a timeline together, using Teaching Textbooks Math and just baking together or woodworking as well as READING, READING, READING! Along with the Bible, that’s all you need mamas! (...and I have a Bachelor’s degree in education!) John Taylor Gatoo was right! 😉

Love this encouragement! (And I am a huge fan of Kelly's book as well!). Curious...what's a good resource for learning more about a Thomas Jefferson Education? I'd like to be able to share with others if they ask, but I don't have a very good grasp on what it is. Thx!

@@AmyRaisingArrows I read some of the books for TJEd and it's very classically based. I'd say that it's similar to Classical Conversations, BUT there's a big difference between the two as TJEd allows the child to read what he/she desires and is interested in. CC assigns literature and classes. While TJEd is classical, it's how the founding fathers were educated. We all know that the government school system was created for the masses and back in the 1800's, it was the poor children specifically that it was geared to serve. The middle class children as well as the upper class children were privately tutored at home by grandparents and parents and then children from a young age were taught what they gravitated towards. I had a "light bulb moment" where I reread this and I've never looked back. There are videos on You Tube, a website and some books that are absolutely fascinating. It's leadership-based (Christian), training leaders for the next generation. Many blessings! Your channel and blog have been a huge help to me as we adopted triplets in 2022 and my head has been on a swivel schooling my children. Thank you for your ministry!

Aldi sells a grilled chicken bag. I use them and they’re ok. I only get the Tyson when Kroger has a sale. I would say the maple syrup, the dishwashing pods, and the chips/crisps added to the grocery bill. Those things are high. All things are high any more. I’ve mentioned before but buying block cheese and shredding it would probably be more cost efficient. I would also mention, as many people that live there and seeing as this is over $300 and not counting the Walmart run and seeing as this is only for a week or 2’s worth of groceries……wouldn’t it be more cost efficient to get a Costco or Sam’s membership? I don’t know how far away you live from a store like that but shopping weekly was always so exhausting! I’ve got ours down to 1 big run per month but I have to get produce weekly (sometimes biweekly ) and I get our raw milk every 2 weeks. I don’t have as many people in our family but I’ve seen other large families do it this way. I’ve also purchased from Azure Standard and able to buy bulk cleaning products, soaps, shampoo and all kinds of things from them. I used to think Aldi was the best way to go for groceries but this inflation, economy, just a bunch of different factors, has made me rethink how I’m spending money on all kinds of levels.
@AmyRaisingArrows
@AmyRaisingArrows 21 день назад
So, a couple of things... I priced out cheese a while back, and the shredded at Aldi (at least at mine) is cheaper than shredding a block...which surprised me. I'll have to check again. I do have a Sam's membership, and it is about 25 minutes away (Costco is even further), but I am very selective about what I buy there because very little is better priced than Aldi...mostly paper goods. Either I don't know how to shop there as a large family (because like you, I see large families do this all the time) or my Aldi is somehow better priced. I just don't know! In the past couple of weeks, the bill has gone back down. It tends to go in cycles, depending on how many people are home, what I'm cooking, and what I need to stock up on.

Not necessarily. Something you might try is teaching your children to put their hand on your arm or leg instead of just jumping into their question. This has helped me so much to transition from what I'm doing to paying attention to what they need.

One fun family game my Aunt always did with our family is she would write down something on tape and put it on our back and then we all had to go one by one and ask yes or no questions about what we think it is. This is so fun because you can tailor it to any age and would put something they would be able to eventually guess. It’s always a fun favorite for holidays and my aunt always gifted us lottery tickets as a prize! Now we do it with our kids and has become a fun tradition.

That’s because they aren’t traditional wives. They’re 1950s wives, a group of women who lived like no other generation did. Barely middle class women had maids, 6 days a week often. Those maids did the cleaning and cooking and often a lot of childcare. These women didn’t work or homeschool or homestead. They’re job was to look pretty, coddle their husbands, and entertain.

How do you handle kids that ask for 5 minutes more
@AmyRaisingArrows
@AmyRaisingArrows Месяц назад
It's a flat no. We have exceptions from time to time, but we have set times for a reason and everyone has to abide by those times so it wouldn't be fair to give one kids 5 minutes more without giving the other 5 minutes more. You could tell them that if they promise not to ask for extra time, there will be surprise extra time on occasion.

Who watched the kids when you went to homeschool conferences with your husband? How did you keep your kids in bed after bedtime?
@AmyRaisingArrows
@AmyRaisingArrows Месяц назад
Grandparents would watch the kids for us. As for keeping kids in bed, it has all depended on the kid. Some stay in bed real well. Others it took me "patrolling" the hall to make sure they stayed there. I've also used a Kidstible Lamp to help motivate them to stay in bed. Having a good bedtime routine helps tremendously because they know what is expected and it is the same every night. When I get wishy-washy, it all falls apart.

Hi, I had a board certified plastic surgeon, but the truth is the procedure really does not live up to the hype. My stomach circumference after Lipo and tummy tuck are about the same as they were before just smoother and I am having terrible muscle spasms whenever I take off my binder, six weeks is a long time to be out of commission and I’ve missed out on alot of living. This is a very serious and complicated surgery. I’m not sure I could recommend it to anybody.
