Dedicated to documenting and showing rare, live, unusual, and interesting recordings of and related to Genesis. All videos use lossless audio sources to maximize quality before RU-vid's compression, unless otherwise mentioned.
I spent a lot of time and money out of my own pocket in order to research and provide you with interesting or rare releases! Please don't reupload, copy, reuse, or generally use my uploads for anything other than personal listening!
I avoid material that is in print or currently officially available. If you're the owner of any material here and would like to request to take down a video, or otherwise have any leads/suggestions on further releases, please let me know.
Unfortunately, for copyright reasons I am generally unable to provide the original FLAC files used for studio material (believe me, I would love to!) as it would introduce a whole host of issues. I do not receive any monetary compensation for this, it's done purely as a hobby/passion project.
In the mid 80’s I took my gf to a Phil Collin’s concert and he played this song which didn’t get any airplay, so it was so unfamiliar. As he got midway through she grabbed my arm and said into my ear, “that this song is something you cut your wrist too”. Such powerful lyrics
Ripples such a sweet tune , just sounds like crap here, out of place , and Phil singing is a d here, medleys just never worked with this band, the songs are so well put together in the old days, cut and pasting them was horrible......fellas the true fans were gone by this stage and the new radio fans were around to listen to illegal alien and mama.....there was no need to butcher great arrangements.....hey thanks for the first 10 years , absolutely loved it
Just discovered this version. Beautiful how suddenly on a live performance, they stretch it for about 50% in the slower mode. I think this might the original version of it. But commerce demands more pace? Phil is clearly opening his heart here. And touches many other fellow humans with sheer musical beauty. Thank you so much mr. Collins for yet another precious jewel of your creations indeed.
This song is so emotional that it makes me cry. How can people not sit quietly with breathlessness at the intensity of the song? It’s gut wrenching. You can leave, but you can’t come back. There’s too much water under the bridge and you’re trying to cope. If leaving me is easy, coming back is harder. True words. Phil’s heart is spilling out in the words. What an amazing song. Heartbreaking and gut wrenching.
I was just a pre-teen boy and this song already broke my heart. Till now I can stop the tears from rolling down my face. PS.....As a boy I didnt speak any English at all...BUT somehow I just knew it ! Masterpiece ! Warm regards from Brazil
The late Bruce Gowers, who directed the first three Genesis music videos, along with Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and many others, would later direct the first 9 seasons of American Idol, giving the show multiple Emmys.
Hard to believe Just A Job To Do was never released as a single. It did get a lot of airplay on album oriented rock radio and would have been a lot better choice than the asinine Illegal Alien.
Was ok I suppose, in truth the repetitive bit at the end is where it fades out on the album so you don't really lose much and only really get 4 to 5 seconds extra, not really much of an ending then as such. As a Genesis fan for over 50 years I cant really say I have been missing out on it.
The saxophone, just pure genius, & the lyrics to this song, everyone at some point in their life can relate to this heartbreak, me for one & many others., tear jerker x
ANYONE KNOW wwhen or IF PHIL next TOURS MY SWANSONG CONCERT AFTER HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT LAST TIME DECIDED FINAL CONCERT I TRAVEL TO PRAGUE INSTEAD OF DUBLIN .........the PRAGUE CONCERT WAS CANCELLED THE DAY OF THE CONCERT TRY oncee more BEFORE 7 DECADES THANK YOU AND thanjk you PHIL YOU PROVIDED ME WITH SOME WONDERFUL MEMORIES OVER THE YEARS YOU ARE ONE OF THE GREATEST SONG WRITER EVER BUT YOUR MY GOAT, ❤❤❤❤ all
I've always loved this song, but when I heard this version.....Wow!!!!!! It broke my mother's heart when Elvis passed in 1977. I couldn't understand the emotional attachment to an artist. it will truely break my heart when we don't have him any more. Thank you Phil Collins, you music has given me so many romantic memmories of partners who also thought your music was amazing. You're beatufull, Phil !
I saw this show in NYC at the Savvoy Theater. They were playing huge arena shows but suddenly decided to play a tiny venue. They made a video for HBO that night.
Arguably some of the very best recordings by Mr MR. If you like the late `70`s/early 80`s Genesis sound then this is the album for you. Mike recruited a superb band to play on the record and the creative; sublime and memorable drum work from the GOAT Simon Phillips is a genuine treat.
There are “resultant tones” being generated here too, like ghost notes. Banks played 12string when they were live too. They were possibly the most talented of all Prog Rock groups, certainly on a par with The Moody Blues core 7 era of Hayward and Pinder
This is it, probably the sweet spot in their career. I have crazy respect for these guys and 83 is probably the highlight for me. Is that actually Mike on Phil's kit for Whodunnit?! First I've heard of that! Thanks so much for posting this, I really enjoyed getting to see this footage.
A great first U.S. Top 40 single by Genesis!!! Heard this on Casey Kasem's "American Top 40 - The '70s" (from June 17th, 1978) the other day. This was the #29 song in the Top 40 that week. Bravo, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford & Phil Collins!!! 🙂
