I'm just a guy who likes painting minis and playing board games! My goal is to help encourage people to try painting, and inspire confidence in people who do. My aim is also to focus on painting minis from games that don't have as many painting tutorials associated with them, to help fill in the gaps if people who play those games want resources to guide them.
You know I actually just started getting into freefolk after I've been playing lannisters the better part of the game's life and was thinking of getting these guys, what a fine coincidence lol
Can't promise anything for the near-future, but I'll keep it in mind! I may have a couple dwarfs in one of my printed Blood Bowl teams, but I can't recall for sure off-hand
What uh size are these? 28mm-32mm? I'm very interested in the models for some miniature agnostic games, or are they only in certain batches? Looking forward to more paintjobs and another song paint tutorial, you did inspire me to paint my golden company swordsman for my tournaments a few weeks back. I got third place after a photo finish charge into my opponents unit from downtown on a d6 roll of a 6 exactly.
I measured a handful and they're all roughly in the 34-36mm scale range, with 26.5mm diameter bases. They look slightly taller than ASOIAF minis, but don't look too out-of-place next to most 32mm minis. Next video is me painting some FF giant spear throwers! Glad I helped inspire you to paint the golden boys, ya gotta love landing a longshot charge!
This might just be the video that convinces me to finally buy the board game! I'm not sure how good the actual board game is but I can't not love the minis
Awesome video! They look even better in person if you can believe it!! I vote for the long format. It helps a lot with painting my own mini's and watching your airbrush work has really helped
Personally I like your voice overs, mostly because you seem to enjoy them and have a pleasant voice for it. For the filming I prefer the regular speed footage to get an actual feel for the speed that you work at and seeing your brush control. I only just found your content and really enjoy someone putting a unique spin on blood bowl mini's. Thanks for posting.
Awesome nmm! Not sure I'm fully convinced by the oil wash approach - maybe it's just my subconscious bias because I tried them out myself a few times and don't want to go through the hassle (and smell from the spirits) anymore, but it feels on a few of the minis (the demon hunters) some parts ended up very dark (basically black) where maybe a more colorful shadow / more gradiant would have been nicer. The teal, hair and bases are amazing though. Still hoping you'll go back to a Guards of Atlantis hero every once in a while😁
Thanks! Yeah, the oil wash isn't a perfect technique, I feel like you lose a bit of careful control over shadow placement with it. But in terms of speed it went pretty fast! I will get to Guards sometime again! 😅 I have a lot of irons in the fire but it's still pretty much my favorite board game
Gamsol (from Gamblin) is truly odorless, if you can find it where you live. It also doesn't suffer from the issues other "ordorless" spirts suffer from, like really slow evaporation times and oiliness.
Nice to have you back! Enjoying the video. I think it’s definitely fine not to speak over all parts. Makes it more of a chill experience to have some downtime where you’re just painting. Let’s me digest what you’ve just said and see how it applies to your current step . Also think some parts sped up, some parts regular speed would make sense
It'll be a couple videos before I'm back to asoiaf again, but I'm still really enjoying the game, so I'll definitely make more painting videos on it before long!
Just found you and love your painting style and presentation. I'm relatively new to mini painting and but have all of the paints you plan to use. While I don't have a copy of Oathsworn, I'll print proxies that share some of the same features and just make it work. Can't wait; LET'S GO!! 😁

Hello, great video! A question, when you say "4 parts X to 1 part Y", how are you measuring this? Do you use a dropper? Or just by the number of times you dip your paintbrush into the pot? Thanks!
I go for ballpark estimates, I am never super precise with mixing ratios. But yep, you got it, usually with dropper bottles I measure by number of drops, and with paint pots I usually treat one "paintbrush pot dip" as roughly one drop of paint (or two drops if I'm using a big brush like a size 3 or 4 round brush to grab the paint.) Hope that helps! :)

Thank you for the great guides! Convinced me to come out of 10years retirement painting my GOA2. I will use speedpaints as you do, but I read that it can reactivate easier than other paints(?), can you share your experience on how the paint holds up after they been played with, and/or recommend a varnish?
Awesome, glad you're getting back to Guards! The version 2.0 speedpaints don't reactivate at all for me, only the original version 1 speedpaints will. And even then, I only notice it when putting a really watery paintbrush or paint overtop of them. It definitely reactivates when trying to wet blend or move paint back and forth on a surface though. I never really had any issues with doing stuff like basic layering though. For varnish, I really prefer airbrushing it, and I use the Vallejo matte polyurethane varnish. That being said, honestly any spray varnish like Rustoleum works fine as long as it's not applied too thick. I've also never had any issues with rubbing off speedpaint when playing games with minis, even when they aren't varnished. Hope that helps!
Man these came out sooo nice, amazing job. Speedpaints through the airbrush as an almost "base" color look nice, and the trick with making highlights by brushing speedpaint away in the desired area is so simple and yet so neat. This video gave me some great ideas, thanks!
Using transparent paints like speed paint or contrast over metalics gives such a good effect. I've had good results from skeleton hoard for a more worn gold.
First I superglued some very small ripped up pieces of cork to the bases, then filled in the rest of the space with Monument Hobbies fine texture paste. At the end I used a few very small grass tufts as well, and I cut them smaller if they looked too big. Then just painted with yellow-green/olive colors and brown washes (and grey and green for the rocks.) Hope that helps!
Some questions 😅 Speed paints direct into airbrush? Or maybe thinned down? How about Psi with air brush(also your nozzle size?)? I enjoy the format of this video!
I thinned the speedpaints just a little bit, both with Speedpaint Medium to reduce the intensity of the color and with a little bit of water/flow improver to make it spray easier. Airbrush needle size .2mm I think? Usually PSI around 20, but sometimes less if I could get away with it since it makes it easier to spray closer to the mini and get more precise. I think I'll consider taking them if it's not a huge project! Commission painting like 100 minis for someone on a deadline seems like way too much for me though 😅
@@PaintingWithBennett Thank you <3 The most daunting part right now to me is how easily people seem to pick and create colors and then blend them effortlessly for smooth highlights and such.
Not gonna lie, that part is tricky! But even as an experienced painter I pick colors that don't work out all the time, when I do I just pivot to a different approach. Worst case, just paint over it with grey or black or something and try again!
I'd be interested to see how you incorporate the airbrush, wouldn't mind that at all. Wouldn't mind going back to the speedy speedpaints methods either though😅This looked like a lot of work!
