Listening to this version, then to the stereo album version, side by side -- I believe you're right about there being a bit extra reverb on the mono mix; the vocals definitely sound a bit "airy"-er, as though they were recorded in a larger space. I don't think Sergio's organ has been *deliberately* brought up in the mono mix, though -- it sounds (to me, anyway) more that in the stereo mix, the singers are mixed several degrees "off-center" in that section (appears to be two vocalists on each side) and are of equal volume to the organ in the center -- which works, because since they've been spread out across the stereo space, they don't overshadow each other. In the mono mix, though, I believe the vocalists have actually been brought *down* a couple of notches on the mixing board, so that they don't overpower everything else in the mix.
I love the number, alone George, unbelivibel, the girl, Frank would loved the gig! I never liked the Black guitar man, until I found out, that he never tried to Sound like Frank,,,,,,he did best, himself and giving the gig an own Touch , like the girl singing, Stars appearing, thank you all
Farewell and job superbly done, Sergio Mendez. Along with Herb Alpert and Burt Bacharach, your brilliance makes up what I like to refer to as the 60s 'musical TRIFECTA.' Oh how we need your smooth, sophisticated, bosa-nova interpretations of catchy melodies more NOW than ever -- particularly when acknowledging the cultural wasteland in which we presently find ourselves. And one more thing: SO WISH dresses were STILL that short.
These girls sang as one. Musical perfection. Musical genius, is the sound of Sergio Mendez and Brazil ‘66. Sergio, like Stevie, was born with the happiness gene. Just an amazing assemblage of artists.
Left, Lani Hall. The one on the right is Bibi Vogel, the later ensembles had Karen Phillipp orJanis Hansen, I could never tell them apart. But all could sing! And all looked ravishing in their miniskirts! (a fashion introduced in 1965 for those who were born after 2000....😁)
What does it say about Zappa that all these amazing musicians, who had giant reputations before they joined his band, are now most well-known for their tenures with him?
