I've heard grinding each valve for 5 mins. Is it nec.? Also after I lapped my valves, they unexpectedly leaked much more than before. Any suggestions?
@DoesItTrack
@DoesItTrack 2 месяца назад
I've not run into that before. You should be able to see where you're lapping them on both the valve and the seat. Is there any pitting marks on either that would allow them to leak?
@renejacques8288
@renejacques8288 2 месяца назад
@@DoesItTrack The valves no, I'll have to pull the head again and look for pits. What if I see no pits?
@DoesItTrack
@DoesItTrack 2 месяца назад
@@renejacques8288 I'd say it has to be leaking from somewhere else. Perhaps the seats themselves? I'm not sure. When you have the head out, with the valves closed, put water in there and see if it leaks past the valves. Then just look for where it's coming from. Sounds like you have something else going on to me but you know your setup. Let me know what you find out.
@renejacques8288
@renejacques8288 Месяц назад
@@DoesItTrack I was hoping I could send a picture here. I looked at some valves w/ a magnifying glass and I see pits that are more pronounced along the upper and lower edges of the valve mating surfaces. Surprisingly the exhaust valves look better than the intake valves. The motor mating surfaces seem to look better than the valves'. Please reply.
@DoesItTrack
@DoesItTrack Месяц назад
@@renejacques8288 Sounds like you need more than just a valve lapping at this point. I'd suggest taking it to a machine shop and see if they can regrind the valves and seats. It may just be time for new valves. Good luck!

Hi , I used to be a automotive machinist in the 80s and 90s , you will find it easier to get that fat lapping stick turned down alot thinner to a smaller diameter and concave shape where hold it ,also some head stands with some wood to get your valve vertical is nicer . Cheers

This is great! I gotta get one on my ERP SS. I was just thinking about having one the other day when I was riding for the exact same reasons as you said. Pulling the brake sensors made sense, but so did leaving the kickstand and tilt sensors. Eventually they're going to start getting in the way and this will alleviate the fear of crashing and having a runaway. Thanks for posting it!
