3000GT All wheel Steering - Keep it or delete it?

If this video helps you, please consider subscribing, it would really help! Should you remove your all wheel steering from your 3000GT or Stealth? For decades I've raced with the all wheel steering in place. This last winter I removed it to get a good comparison. Does the car handle better with the all wheel steering or without? Hopefully I can give you some guidance on what it's like driving with it and without it.

Stumbled on this by accident, and love seeing the perspective of someone who has tracked the car frequently being the same as mine! It only took one time for it to jump in the middle of a corner as I fell below the MPH threshold, and I said "this HAS TO GO".

Well done! A breath of fresh air to not just have an opinion but some data and video to support. Discussing the pros and cons of each as well as having changed your position speaks volumes for your credibility.

Thanks Morgan! I'm thrilled to find more speed and if it means admitting I was wrong, that's the cheapest speed i've ever purchased. LOL!!

Great video Erron! Thanks for the review and especially sharing the data you collected and used as a comparison. Data never lies!

I would keep mine. But I bought My car brand new in 1992 when I was in 11th grade (yes I made every single car payment myself. My mom only co signed). So since mine is a one owner low mileage, numbers matching car that never spent a night outside a garage. Even tho I had my internal engine rebuilt by pampena Motorsports my vin number is still on the engine block. And my mods that bring me to 710AWHP are reversible I decided to keep my aws. But always remember people, you can reverse the car back to aws any time you want. Always keep your original parts.

Great info! I am thinking of building an autocross killer from a Steath/3kgt, and this is good info. I was already thinking of weight savings and predictability, plus maintenance, and for AX I'd want a faster steering box overall but the phase change depending on corner speed could be problematic, same phase on high speed slalom could mean hitting cone from the rear instead of rotating around the cone. Nice vid.

Nice review man! Good to see an actual data driven opinion piece on the aws system for track purposes!

Thank you! At one point, I was sitting in the car thinking, "I think I like this better". Which is so weird after being an advocate for AWS for so many years. LOL

For a race car definitely remove it! For a street car you should keep it. As you mentioned, lane changes on the freeway are lighting quick with the AWS.

This, had a motobike undercut me at high speed whilst changing lane on a dual and had to move back in an instant. Car was 100% stable

I had one of these over 20 years ago, as a grey import, and liked the steering, didn't regret selling it, as too much to go wrong on it, and whoever had it in Japan had done a lot of custom work!

Good Video Erron. I've always preferred the more stable feeling of deleted AWS for higher speed corners. Found if I really needed more rotation or initial turn in, especially for a tight track or autoX. It was simpler to just throw a little bit of extra Toe Out in the rear temporarily.

I was really surprised at how much stability it added. I thought it would for sure, but not THIS much. I'm pretty impressed by the changed.

Erron, have you looked at doing the Jay's racing active toe eliminator for the 1G DSM? It works on our rear subframes as well, and will help tighten the rear up a bit more than the standard AWS delete kit. Beyond that, have you ever given thought to welding in an electric power steering column out of a Saturn Vue or similar? This would allow you to retain power steering, but weld the factory steering quill up to get rid of the flex it has for the hydraulic power steering system and get rid of that vague feeling in the wheel around the more neutral positions. Effectively gives you a powered manual rack.

I plan to buy a GTO once they become legal to import (1999). Ima keep aws since its a pretty rare thing.

Very informative, the only thing I'm still left wondering at the end is did the delete affect your lap time?

Hi Sam! I don't have any experience with that one. I'm sure Philip may have some insight or maybe even someone on 3si perhaps.
