Black people don't come in multiple different shades. They only have brown and deep-brown skin tones, with brown eyes and kinky 4c African textured hair. The only time that a black person can have 'light skin' is if they have Albinism or Vitiligo which is caused by a congenital disorder.

Gene's coming at this from various perspectives and his argument has multiple layers, but one of them is definitely this: You can make more money in the United States if you learn to speak English fluently with a minimal accent. You can't argue with him; the man knows what he is talking about! He's just plain correct. He's trying to help peope maximize their wealth, plain and simple. He's your musical guide to financial success and he'll probably catch all kinds of shit for it.
If I chose to live in France, I'd learn to speak French. It wouldn't be easy, but that's what I'd have to do to assimilate into French society. It's pretty simple but Huff Post cannot seem to understand it.
Thank you.. I can't tell you how much it really irritates me when people walk up to me and ask if I speak Spanish. So I tell them in Spanish why did you move here? And then I say, why did you not learn English since you've been here for so long? And they all tell me the same thing. They don't like it. 😡 Yes I can't speak Spanish but I refuse to speak to people who want to live here and won't learn English. It's not that they can't but they won't....

I think it's safe to say that most people don't care who comes to America...but like Gene said...make an honest effort to learn the language & culture of America. You can keep your culture and language - but not by ignoring the language and culture of the country you're coming into... that's not acceptable. Here's a good example. Many countries will allow an American to obtain dual citizenship...but the American cannot obtain full dual citizenship unless they can demonstrate a working knowledge - written and spoken - of that country's native language...even Mexico has this requirement. If that cannot be met, the may eventually perminent resident status or a visa that allos the person to stay for extended periods of time...but they will not be granted actual citizenship until they can prove language proficiency. Why doesn't America have this requirement?
My mother was born in 54 in Monterrey down deep in Mexico. Her family then slowly immigrated to Nuevo Laredo, then Laredo Tx. Eventually to west Texas Pecos. Years later my mum made it to Odessa. My mother lived through prejudice and sexism during the 70s 80s and 90s. She had a son in the 70s and then had me in the 90s. No husbands. No welfare. She had to work 2 jobs before she became a registered beauty technician then barber after that. She learned and perfected her English through watching her favorite American soap operas, movies, and music, when she could she would read english all with the help of two huge books of Spanish to English & English to Spanish translations. My mother was a smart immigrant a dedicated Americana. To think Texas is home to so many Latinos who make so many excuses to not learn English after living in this country for decades a damned travesty. Gene is absolutely right.
My grandparents left Europe because of World War 1 and Communism. My grandfather's native tongue was Czech. My grandmother's native tongue was Ukrainian. Yet, after immigrating legally, my grandparents settled in New Jersey, got jobs, and learned English. The Slavic languages are among the hardest languages to learn. The Slavic languages my grandparents spoke were far more dissimilar to English than Spanish was. Yet, despite often having to work up to 12 hours a day, and raising two children, my grandparents made time to learn English, and attended weekly English classes. They were proud of becoming Americans, and brought up their children to become responsible, productive citizens.
I LOVE YOU GENE!!! I do have to say.....almost everyone around the world speaks English (Russians, Ukrainians, Syrians, AFRICANS, Asians, Europeans KNOW English) EXCEPT SOUTH AMERICANS!!! I work in retail and these hispanic women don't even understand if I ask them "do you have a return or purchase?' or "would you like to purchase a bag for your items?" In NJ, we have to purchase bags, no more free plastic bags.
