I use to have my Lenovo ThinkPad x230 back in January 2023 as my daily driver replacing my HP EliteBook 2570p from 2012 it works really well for my needs back then, Dual booting macOS Catalina and Windows 11. But when my workflow on projects increases. I had to get a light and faster machine for my Multimedia Course. And bought an M1 MacBook Air in May 2024 and it blew my mind of how really fast that is and longer battery life. As of the Intel Core 3rd gen series, It still works for basic tasks like web browsing/movies/video calls/word processing and light photo editing. Can't believe it's now 11 years.
Ah the ol T440s, it was actually the Mojave video that made me consider the T430 Series. Ending up with the normal T430 I fell in love with how tiny and great it was (even on macOS!)
Hello! So i have a problem,I made the cd burner with the iso it worked booting in plop,i made the win 11 installer with MBR in rufus but after i select the usb in plop, im just stuck at the windows 11 logo and i tried all the usb ports, and i dont know what to do please help!!Thank you so much !
If you see the Windows logo, it's successfully started booting, so you don't need to try a different USB port. But if you waited at least 15 minutes and it's still stuck at the Windows logo, I'm not sure what's wrong. Maybe try a different USB flash drive.
@@TheComputerGuy96 I will try! I forgot to mention, last weeks i tried to install windows 10 on my iMac late 2009(the pc im trying to install win 11) i tried with bootcamp it worked but always when im powering off,and try to power on it shows the windows 10 logo and it reboots every time,do you think i need to fresh install my mac os HighSierra and then try again installing windows 11 ? without bootcamp windows 10
If you don't want Mac OS, you don't have to install it, you can just install Windows. The only Boot Camp thing you need is the drivers. You don't have to use the Boot Camp Assistant app in Mac OS.

If the internal CD drive is broken, you have to get an external USB CD drive for this Mac. Then you can follow the guide on tcg96.github.io/win11geforce9400m.html and see how it works on ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AuOtTLdPC44.html (recommended you install Windows 10 instead of 11, but the steps are the same)
Interestingly, that screenshot color glitch is quite similar to the color channel bug seen in old Minecraft versions (b1.7.3 and the like) on Apple Silicon.
Is there any other way to mount the Plop boot manager then on a cd ? I just dont have a working cd burner in any of my systems anymore, be it pc or mac. Can it be mounted on a second USB for example as legacy installer --- watched a little further, seems you unplugging the plop boot usb so it wont confuse on boot .. that could be a problem with 2 usb sticks then
Unfortunately these Macs absolutely cannot boot legacy mode from just a flash drive. It can be on a second USB, but it must be a USB optical drive, not a USB flash drive. You have to buy an external USB optical drive if you don't have one. Only other option is to put your SSD in another PC, install Windows 10/11 in legacy mode that way, then as it restarts the first time, shut down and re-install the SSD in your Mac.
@@TheComputerGuy96 ok thx for response, Dont have a optical on my pc, I got the Imac drive working on certain cds, tried a few different empty cds for burning the plpbt.iso file thats needed, but so far no luck it just wont burn the file. I might try and burn the cd on a friends PC then see if it will read the said cd in my optical drive. I dont want to buy a portable drive just for this one installation, but then again, having a cd player that works on both pc and mac could be handy to have, will decide after i tried burning a cd. Im running Monterey on my late 2009 27 i5 4 core, its still a bit glitchy but as close to stable as I can get it, do you know if windows 11 is more/less stable then runnning opencore legacy patcher and these non supported OSes like Monterey ? What would a comparison look like. thx for the video, I will make it work somehow
Windows 10/11 and Mac Monterey are about the same stability, but Windows is faster on a 2009 Mac. For serious use I'd recommend installing 10 instead of 11 on a computer of this age. Also you can try cleaning your optical drive with a lens cleaner kit or by following this guide: discussions.apple.com/thread/4144342 It may not help, but it's worth a try.
@@TheComputerGuy96 Yes I figured as much, so Ive downloaded 10 instead and I have a licence aswell, that cleaning trick is something I most certainly will try. My secondary monitor died, hence im reviving the mac until I get a new one, so Monterey was an experiment, I meant for windows to be on it. thx again for the help
It's the middle mouse button or the scroll wheel. If you don't have it, you need to get a mouse with a scroll wheel (or maybe you can change it in the Bochs settings)
You can download it anywhere, but doesn't mean you can run it. Microsoft specifically put a block for this program on Vista, so it might not run on newer Windows versions either. But if you're a fan of XP, you should have a computer or virtual machine with that OS.
@@TheComputerGuy96Where can I find a good working Windows XP computer one for main use? I know it's not supported anymore but I want to use it for good times. Is there one on Goodwill or eBay
I don't know about Goodwill, but you can find a Windows XP computer on eBay in most countries. Pretty much anything from around 2006 to 2010 is good. Just be careful as some sellers take advantage of people looking for a "retro" or "vintage" PC and sell some computer that's barely good enough for too much money. In the meantime you can use a virtual machine.
Install either stock Windows 11 23H2 or Windows 10 iot enterprise and this time, try debloating & getting rid of unnecessary processes by using Chris Titus Tool. I bet you'll see a significant improvement on Windows for that MacBook. Btw IOT Enterprise Windows 10 will be supported till 2032 so give a try 😂
I still have Windows 11 on my MacBook (the installation shown in a past video). In fact I should boot back to it to catch up on updates. I've seen the Chris Titus winutil script. It's interesting but I wouldn't rely on it. My stock Windows 11 23H2 installation on this 2009 Mac still runs okay, even though this computer can't run 24H2 or newer. As for OS security updates, I'm only concerned about them on my main PC.
I did that...back when Windows 7 was a current OS in 2010-2011. Now I keep Windows 7 in another laptop. I could try it again on this Mac but I don't have anything interesting to try.
Great video 👍 How did you update the bios of the 6300, by the way? I could only update up to version 2.90 😩 and version 3.08 won't install since I need version 2.99 (i think)?
You can get BIOS updates for the 6300 on HP's page support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-compaq-pro-6300-microtower-pc/5232874 On that page you have to set the OS to Windows 7 or Windows 8, but you can install it on Windows 10 too. To get 2.99, click on the + to the left of the 3.08 file and click on Previous Version. Normally I would always recommend updating the BIOS, but I noticed that on my 6300 with updated 03.08 BIOS, any OS in legacy mode doesn't work, even if legacy mode is turned on. It says "no physical memory is available" or "windows NT has found 0K of low memory" or it just immediately crashes and reboots. Only OSs in EFI mode will work properly. I'm not 100% sure if the BIOS update is the problem because I don't remember how it was like before, but if you update the BIOS you should be ready to potentially lose the ability to use legacy mode and stick to EFI mode only. **You can't downgrade the BIOS.**
@@TheComputerGuy96yeah, but whenever I try to install 5.03 Rev.B, the exe just throws an error. I dual boot this thing and tried the HP utilities for Linux too but the driver never compiles as well 🤣. Anyway, since version 3.08 seems to be giving problems, I will just leave it as it is. Ty!
Hey! Got windows 11 installed as the only OS. But for some reason whenever I come to onstall the Nvidia drivers it doesn’t want to install and tells me drivers are unsupported. Any leads?
If you're using the correct installer, unfortunately I don't know what's wrong. See the steps in the written guide tcg96.github.io/win11geforce9400m.html (scroll down to Post-Installation)
@@TheComputerGuy96was literally about to start installing Mac OS Monterey or sonoma on my 2009 17’. But now this video convinced me that I’ll go the windows route😃 for me the precision touchpad is very important and the fact that I prefer windows is a plus.

Before restarting you need to replace MacHALDriver.sys. If you still get a crash even after replacing that file correctly, look up the error code it shows. (Don't worry about the QR code, it just takes you to windows.com/stopcode)
@@TheComputerGuy96thank you for reply. I already replaced the file before restart but again keep crashing. How to look about error while computer keeps restarting
When the BSOD appears, it will show an error code, for example 0x00000000 ERROR_LIKE_THIS. You need to find out what it is (take a photo if it restarts automatically) and then search it online on another device. On this Mac the BSOD after driver installation is usually caused by the wrong version of MacHalDriver.sys. If you replaced the file correctly, I'm not sure what the problem is, especially without the error code.
Tried getting Windows ME to function on a Dell laptop from around the same time period and it too shows up that exclamation point under the IDE controller operating the CD-ROM drive, even after resolving the IRQ conflict on the main storage controller as to be able to shutdown properly. Only workaround I could find was leaving it disabled for the timebeing until I need to use it, to which it can be enabled without a restart (since that otherwise brings it back to square one)
Hey :) I've been watching your videos for quite some time now, and I'm glad you tried Windows Update Restored (I'm the founder)! I've noted the two non-installing updates and I'll fix them as soon as possible. As for the "We absolutely need your help!" warning, it's because we're missing files that only old machines from pre-2011 contains.
Great work, thank you for that site! I don't have any pre-2011 Windows 9x installations, but if you mean any old Windows installation on a pre-2011 machine, even if installed recently, I can send that folder from this Windows ME (and maybe other pre-Vista versions if I try them again).
@@TheComputerGuy96 You're welcome! Unfortunately, we need the folder from Windows 9x installations from pre-2011, because Windows Update was shutdown in August of 2011 :/ The files you have are from Windows Update Restored.
