Awesome video. Thanks! I upgraded to Catalina on my late 2008 Macbook Pro, that only supported up to El Capitain, using the macOS Catalina Patcher by DosDude1. It worked well, but I had some minor issues. My Macbook Pro is busted now though :(
I've been reading that the early 2009 macbook pro 17" has had issues with OCLP/Monterey install because that model has NVIDIA Gforce GPU, rather than the integrated Intel GPU. The issues I've seen being reported in forums, etc relates to slow performance generally. Do you know anything about this, or if Big Sur would be a better choice? I know this is a year old video, but perhaps you still check in on posts.
In Macs from 2012 and later, the GPU supports "Metal" graphics API which makes it faster, but they also have newer and more powerful CPUs. Newer Mac OS versions are just inherently slower on older unsupported Mac models. This hardware works much better with an older Mac OS or Windows 10 or a modern Linux distribution. RU-vidrs get notifications for new comments, no matter how old the video is. No need to check in manually.
Unfortunately Windows 11 isn't compatible with this 2009 computer due to the video drivers. Right after installing the newest GeForce 9400M driver, Win 11 starts crashing (either resetting automatically or showing WDF_Violation BSOD). There's a workaround that involves changing some EFI variables with rEFInd, which works on Windows 8 or 10, but it has no effect on 11.
Bel video complimenti! I got a mid 2010 Macbook Pro 13 upgraded with an ssd and 8gb of ram and I wanna upgrade from High Sierra. Would you say it's worth trying to install and use Monterey or should I go straight up for something older like Catalina?
Grazie! Unless you need apps that require a newer OS, try Catalina first, it should be faster. Note that Catalina is the first Mac OS version that doesn't support 32-bit apps.
You could use the OCLP Big Sur cause it support from 2009 to 2011 Macbook Pro..its a recommended since Monterey uses Metal support from 2012 and above..
OCLP Monterey supports the 2009 MacBook Pro too, as this video shows. All Mac OS versions after High Sierra are designed for Metal graphics (Macs from 2012 and newer).
Hello, I have a 2011 model 15.4' Screen i7 processor 16 gb ram 1333 mhz Macbook pro computer, I have installed open core legacy with monterey, but it is very stiff, what could be the reason, thanks
You mean slow, not "stiff"? Replace the hard drive with a SATA SSD if you haven't done it already. If it's slow even with the SSD, there's nothing you can do besides going back to an older version of Mac OS. As mentioned in the video, the newer OS is slower on older unsupported computers.
I'm not sure about the performance difference between MBP 2009 and MBP 2010. Try official 10.13 High Sierra first. If that's too old for you, then try OpenCore Legacy with whatever Mac OS version your apps require (10.14 Mojave, 10.15 Catalina which removes 32-bit app support, 11 Big Sur, 12 Monterey). With unsupported Mac OS, the newer version is slower.
Yes, but only on this older computer. If you have a newer one that can run Big Sur or Monterey officially (without OpenCore), then the newer version is better.
@@TheComputerGuy96HI, I liked your REVIEW of this VIDEO...Question I do have MBPRO [ EARLY 2011 ] WITH HIGH SIERRA [ SSD 1TB + 8 RAM ] running pretty good on 2023... use OT for STOCK MARKET TRADING and only important program EXCEL ...SHOULD I UPGRADE TO MONTEREY OR BIG SUR...YOUR RESPONSE WILL BE VERY APPRECIATED !!!! TY !
GTA 5 doesn't work on Mac OS, but I did try it on this Mac running Windows, and it's totally unplayable on min settings, forget max: twitter.com/TCG96/status/853357199376220161
