the fact that there are so many gay men opting to defend what actually is toxic masculinity in the gay community on this thread and defer any kind of acknowledgement in the first place with "it's just a choice"...... and also to deflect with "you guys don't want to date a femme guy either"..... first off- toxic masculinity in the gay male community does exist merely based on the history of homosexuality in the USA cultural landscape since the 1980s and I would know because I have experienced it first hand both growing up here as well as at a Pride event in my 20s being told "you are the reason gays get so much crap" by a gay gym rat- second gaff is thinking femme guys don't want to date femme guys either- very presumptuous and also I call bullshit- the issue being addressed is a fucked perspective in the gay male community in terms of toxic masculinity in the USA and this has been shaped by at least over 60-80 years of homophobia in this country, how gay men have been treated legislatively as well as culturally. Gay men didn't want to give up their perceived straight privilege and entitlement and to a degree that is still true today. We have gay Republican millionaires/billionaires who pull the same thing with straights that Clarence Thomas is pulling in the Supreme Court being a black man- he slammed the door shut in terms of other AA people getting ahead because he liked being an Oreo Cookie. Gay men who behave the same way- I don't have a name for them yet but I am sure I will come up with something horrible that fits the crime- I also find it extremely hypocritical for the same gay men who have made a point complaining during the 80s and 90s about gay monogamy when some of us actually wanted that "why would we do the same thing that straight people do- monogamy - ewe gross" (sorry you feel you missed out on the gay sex liberation of the late 70s when HIV killed a generation and a half of our community starting 15 years later) and yet these same gays are also the ones who are like "I only top- bottoms are not real men" "oh- you're versatile- you're really a bottom"...... I find it extremely ironic that these gay men are fine being whores (no judgement on that point) because they don't want to just rando sex one person for the rest of their lives (a personal choice- not a choice all Gay Men are looking for so don't fucking speak for me) - and yet- at the same time they feel the need to be stuck in a binary straight sexual situation "I only top" "I only bottom" (I am totally judging you whole group of gay guys- you deserve it)...... you guys who try and justify how you behave are hypocrites- and go see a therapist to sort out your shit before you inflict yourself in the next gay man you meet.
