Hi there, my name is Andrew Ros and I'm from Canada. I’m a self taught Field Recordist and an aspiring Sound Designer for Video Games. Here you will watch me embark on this adventure in which I will be sharing my sounds and experiences with you all.
The world of audio is such an interesting realm. To be able to bring a story to life with sound has such a profound affect on me. It’s a creative process that is always evolving in this industry and I’m very excited to keep delving further in.
I have a passion for self-learning, technology, and being creative. This is a way of life that I choose to express myself in.
I have a cheap vrx10 Rodes shotgun mic connected to my phone's usb. I'm using it to record live music practice rehearsals but it doesn't really work that good. It gets distorted easily with barely any volume. I know about recording with a DAW and all of that but I'm looking for a good live recording option. Do you have any recommendations for capturing both good audio and video?
So I did some research and apparently the H5 was designed to work with Apple products. This would explain why most people using an android can't get it to interface. There are some androids that it will work with but it's far and few between. So could you please let us know what model of phone you were using in this video? Thanks.
For some reason my android phone (Z Flip) is not recognizing the H5.. And there is no damn setting option that allows you to manage USB connections. Do you have any idea how I could resolve this issue? Also, when I plug my lavalier mic into the mic jack located on the top right of the XY mic towards the back side, the mic is not showing any sound whatsoever on the screen in -dB when I speak. But if I plug it into the headphone jack above the USB port on the left, the mic begins to pick up sound and the gauges move. But either way, the record button does nothing and it won't record. I tried running it off the H5 battery and the phone.. Same outcome. Record button does nothing when I press it. Any idea what the issue(s) is?
Why wouldn't you just connect your phone to the 3.5mm out port of the zoom and plug it directly into your phones USB C port using a 3.5 mm to usb c adapter. No need to plug it into the zooms power port.
Let me give you some advice since almost NONE of these are usable..... DO THE MOTION ONCE!!!!!!!!! What people need is the sound effect in isolation... how often do you think someone will need to crumbling the paper over and over for 25 seconds????? THEY NEED IT ONCE!!!!!!!!!!
Great video! Thanks for demonstrating these two devices. I am planning on taking one of the H-series recorders traveling with me and using in with the 1010music Bluebox as a sort of mini-DAW. Do you know where the digital to analog conversion happens on the H5? Before or after the line out? I want to use the H5 as an analog microphone to get an acoustic signal into the 1010music Bluebox. Thanks for any info you can offer.
Definitely prefer the H1n!! It's obvious the h5 is high quality/has a flatter response, but I think that also makes background sounds more flat and dull. The h1n just sounds.... delicious!! Especially the coffee. The water pouring on the h5 - just sounded boring. Predictable, lifeless. But with the h1n my ears naturally just perked up! I literally looked up from the work I was doing while the video was playing to see which mic it was and it was the h1n. Delicious! Of course the bass response is richer on the h5, but I have other mics for that. The "fun" factor of the h1n is reason alone to get it. My roomate had a zoom h4n and we barely ever used it because it was such a damn drag to get out. Heavy, 1 minute long startup time. Literally was just not fun. It sucked all the joy out of sound designing with how shitty the actual console and UI felt. Excited to try the h1n. Has a 6 second start up time according to other reviews. Still WAY too long for 2023, but hey - it beats a 48 second startup time any day. Literally any time we heard an exciting noise "should we get the zoom? Nope, sound will be gone by the time it starts up. true, okay." Useless! The fun factor really matters.
When is Zoom going to enter the USB-C world? Even APPLE is ditching their FIRE connection for USB-C. It's a real drawback that Zoom doesn't have a robust product upgrade cycle.
Very helpful! But my Android phone cannot select the external mic upon shooting video. May I know what Android phone and video recording App you used? Thank you.
