Thanks for the info! I just started dyeing. I’m doing a multi color job of the Houston Astros logo. I dyed the blue part using a hot dip. It came out perfect! Next, I removed the star part of stencil which is orange. It’s not holding. I tried lotion over night. denatured alcohol wont hold. Any idea on the problem or to resolve?
I see you have Pewaukee in your Description. I used to live there many years ago. My brother and his wife still live there near the Costco off Capitol Drive. Small world.. Great video. I am getting ready to get the Circuit Maker 3 device.
Dave I got the blueprints to your disc dye jig when it was free, I had my buddy print me one and, well I have a pit bull and if you know them their tails are table sweepers, I lost one of the pegs and my buddy lost the file…. Any chance I can get a hook up? I know.
Hey there, great video! I do have a question though, in your example for the center dot to align with the laser, you poked a hole. However, what if you don't want to do that? For example, if the center of my stencil is an area I plan to color and don't want the hot dip dye to leak into the hole? Thanks in advance!
How do you get the black dye to actually be black? I'm using onyx by pro chem and its like a really dark purple color and not black. Do I need to use double the amount of dye for black?
Thanks so much. Nobody on here discusses these things. I just got a cricut maker 3 for doing custom hot dip dyes and glue beds. I’ve been binge watching ur stuff
Thank you for this tutorial!! One question : Some prochem colors do not dissolve well in water and acetone... Remains powder sediment... Is this normal?
Maybe add a line at the bottom of your cheat sheet of metric units? :) (Aprox: 2oz = 60mL 16oz = 0,5L) close enough for a round number. Thanks for some great videos!
so what does the transfer paper do? in your video after you pulled the paper off you cut to rapping the vinyl around the disc and showing the final part but you don't show how you went from the disc being black to having your wite part showing on the vinyl?
The transfer paper is just that, helps transfer the vinyl to the disc. The next step I did was weed out the parts of the vinyl that I wanted the dye to take.
Dave i had the same situation as they guy who said he followed the directions....would it have been the fact i used a Champion plastic disc?...i used pro chem in the correct ratios ...is the pulling it out at 7mins a must ? Also the temperature drops pretty quickly after it hits 120...
Champion plastic needs longer to take the dye typically that say Star plastic. Play it by ear and see how long it'll need to take you. You can keep pulling and checking for saturation.
2 oz is about 60 ml. Google has a useful converter, just do a Google search in this format: 2 oz in ml It works for any official unit, for example ”450 ft in m” or ”40 knots to kmh”. Mind that this is for the US fl oz. The imperial fl oz would be about 57 ml.
I purchased some glass jars I found on Amazon, but when I shake them up to help dissolve the mixture a bit more after acetone is added it ate the crud out of the plastic lid. Are these glass bottles with droppers better to avoid that? Don’t want to have to worry about not getting acetone on the lids when moving the container around so these could be the answer I’m looking for. Love your videos and content, thank you so much for all you are doing for the newbies out here trying to get into this hobby!
You have to be careful with the containers you get to use acetone in. Some plastic and/or rubber will dissolve. I recently switched over from using the glass dropper bottles to HDPE plastic bottles. You can find the supplies I use on the Dyers Guild website. dyersguild.co/supplies/
Thanks for the kind words! I try to make as many of them as I can. But you can google what you looking for and change the type to "line drawing" or add the words coloring book to the search.
Why don't you weed the vinyl before you stick the transfer tape to your stencils? I have worked doing vinyl for a business from design to installation and it was never used un-weeded with transfer tape.
Does the lotion you’re mixing into the dye ALREADY have water in it to reduce consistency? Or are you counting the mixed dye as the water component in your 2:1 mixture? Trying to get this right the first time 🤞🏻lol
