Hi there! The Badger caches are mine and I have also just taken ownership of the first ones you found too (The Heathfield Hobble series). Sorry you had a bad day and didn't find the Badger ones. There was a period last year where people kept losing/not putting back properly those two caches. I was regularly checking and replacing them but then it would just happen again. At the start of this year I totally replaced the style of cache and also moved them slightly. So far they have stayed put *touch wood*. They are a nice and easy 1.5 when actually in place, this also means that my caches show up for free users too - I want all Geocachers to be able to hunt for my caches. I'm glad you got to see the deer, it's a wonderful spot for wildlife. Hopefully you'll be back this way at some point in the future and can turn them into a nice smiley face - you could then also hunt for the three I have near there, along the canal towpath towards Durston. Cheers - TBadger (All my caches are named Badger *something)
Hi Tim, Thanks for dropping a comment on the vid! Didnt get a notification which is strange...Have moved back to Devon now so wont be in the area for a while but would be good to fill in some blanks at some point. Enjoyed the route for the scenery even if the caching was a little damp..Catch up soon and happy caching. GS1612
You could attach a Third hand prusik to the brake line before you detach the pulley, the lanyard from your harness to the ascender needs to be stronger just in case the Grigri slips. your ascent was good though, i put my foot loop onto the brake line with a progress capture, it's no effort at all then to ascend this way.
Love those straw creature sculptures placed around the trails! What a great nature opportunity for the kids. I don't think I ever played with those reeds and cattails as a kid :) Fun times!
Your method works if you reach the top branch. If you need to get down prior to that, you need to remove slack to be able to take off the petzl ascender. Your system will limit this slack removal so you're stuck
Hi, Thanks for the feedback!! Be good to have a local partner in crime...Fancy meeting up some time?? I am Geosoldier1612 on GC.Com if you want to add me on there to arrange.
Good job, you just beat us to this climbing Cache, my girls and I did it this weekend! What a great climb we loved it too! You certainly made it harder for your self with the prusik!!
Ive done all my climbs bar one with Prusik i think. I need more practice now i'm back into Caching. If you ever fancy a joint adventure let me know Gus. Thanks for stopping by...
cha-ching those smilies! :D I've been totally freaked out by a deer before, at night. Those things are so quiet, and I left the trail to find a cache, and suddenly there was a HUGE leap as a deer just a few meters off jumped away at the last second. Why do they do that? lol
Love it, bit far for me to come over for the day! I am in Shropshire - I too do this hobby to just be with me and nature. I love a good church, a bit of water and if the odd train turns up I am over joyed. loved this video so now I have subscribed I am hoping you will venture up this way one day! I need to do some of my own videos really - thanks again karentheot.
Hi Karen, Thank you for the Sub and glad you enjoyed the vid. Looking at my stats I have 5 caches in Shropshire for a few years ago. 4 in the area of GC1V1Z3 and I believe the other may have been on a large Iron Bridge somewhere in the area? Looks like its been archived now though...
@@3meadventures756 aha, Granville Park, literally 5 minutes from my house! Large Iron bridge is probably ironbridge. Famous tourist spot....We have hundreds around the Wrekin (old volcano) and along many of the canals. Its certainly addictive this hobby and my husband (also a veteran) often helps me with the bashing of brambles lol
Hi Robbie, I use the method of throwing a line over the branch, drop to the floor, attach the rope and pull up and over. Once I am finished I just the pull the rope back over the branch. So essentially it isn't tied up in the air, just looped over...
@@3meadventures756 so if I wanted to have a carabiner clipped over the line at the top I could just attache a throw line to it and once I’m down I can pull it down then un clip it?
@@robbiewilson7980 I am not too sure what you are trying achieve here so am probably not in the best position to advise buddy. I only climb for Geocaching purchases and don't do anything to technical or tricky. There must be a video on here of the system you desire...? I will take a look later and see if I can find something!
@@robbiewilson7980 another really useful knot I have been using with this setup is from a guy here on RU-vid. It’s called the “JRB hitch”. It’s a very good retrievable knot. You would have to ascend first then tie it though.
@@robbiewilson7980 Thats what i do, seems to work fine. Just tie a figure 8 on the bight and clip that to the main line with a biner and tie your tagline to the biner before u pull it up. Theres some crossloading of the carabiner doing it this way but pretty minimal
I use exactly the same system for leisure tree climbing. I usually add a blocker above the grigri but not all the time of the ascent. And I usually don't hold the rope when I'm catched by the grigri. It never failed until now hopefully. The Petzl I'D and RIG are meant to be used this way, without holding rope when the system is loaded. Grigri is smaller but uses the same came system.
While in use, meaning during decent. If the grigri is locked, it's locked. We use it for work postioning, ascending, and descending. The only time you need to worry about keeping a hand on the rope is during descending and ascending. Hand for ascending is for tending slack, while hand for descending is for controlling descent. From what I saw in this video, he made no mistake for using the grigri, unless I missed a part where he pulled the handle while having his other hand free.
If you are holding onto the ascender or connected in then you should be fine. When rappelling back down ALWAYS have a hand on the break end of the rope pulling down on it below the grigri. Edit: I honestly prefer to just switch to a rescue 8 belay device with prusik for descent because I trust it more.
I found you today great videos it my 2nd time geocaching your videos are very helpful thanks by the way can you try and sort your microphone out so we can hear you better Stay safe
Hi Zoe Thank you for the comment, I have hopefully sorted the Mic issue for my next tutorial uploads. Keep an eye out for the uploads and good luck with your caching!
