Welcome to the channel, I am an ultra distance cyclist and mountain goat!
In 2022 I rode in the prestigious Transcontinental Race during the Summer, an epic bikepacking race over 4,000km across Europe, and earlier in the season finished the 2,000km bikepacking race; The Race Around the Netherlands.
During 2021 I completed my first ever Everesting Challenge, in my home county of Lincolnshire, UK. The same hill over 100+ times!
In 2019 I completed the cycling event Paris-Brest-Paris in France. In 2020 I finished a very personal LEJOG adventure, later in the year I went off road and took on the Transpennine Trail amongst many other exciting adventures on two wheels.
My channel is focussed on long distance cycling events; in 2020/2021 I've discover wild camping and slept in many wild and not so wild locations like the Peak District, Brecon Beacons, the Lake District and closer to home.

You're pretty hard on yourself Richard. You know that right?? I'm umming and arrring about a piddling 100 mile and camp over the weekend, while you're banging out the BIG miles week in week out. Mind you TWO cans of Pringles....😱 LOL
I was kicking around in London Fields too Rich - watching the same cricket match and waiting to start the ride. We could have watched each others bikes if we'd known! Pity I didn't know to look out for you. My rear hub broke at 100km so had a miserable, clunky trudge for the last 80km but did finish.
I bought a rear mudguard to match the front, but sadly it won't fit. When I next replace the tyres am going to go with narrow tyres, right now 2.35", probably drop down to 2.2" maybe that will help. =)
Hi Lee, I believe so, I find the price tag pretty good as well. Last time I looked if you wanted a DJI drone with "follow me" mode you were looking over £800 plus. It may not have all the bells and whistles but for cycling and similar outdoor pursuits it's ideal.
Great little tour there Richard good to see you keeping your spirits high despite the drab weather and midges! What was the tent you had? Looked interesting with access on both sides. 👍
Thanks for sharing your own personal story with us Richard. You are a real blessing in helping to encourage others to get outdoors and exercise. Take care.
Well done Richard. I'm impressed at how often you get out and how far you go, and fab videos. Freehub problem? I saw a hack on a spinning freehub, and they used loads of cable ties to lock the cassette to the rear spokes! No freewheeling, but i guess it helped them finish.
Despite the main stretches of road it always felt like we/I hit them at the right time - at their quietest - and on mostly wide open roads. It always felt like I was making good progress and distance as a result. The return from Corby Glen I enjoyed a lot too as I didn't know where I was going and again nice roads!
Hey great thanks glad you enjoyed it. The camera is the DJI Action 4, it's just one of those foam wind covers, they do wonders for reducing wind noise.
I rode the Rebellion Way in June, staying at campsites. Lovely route, but it was a bit muddier and a lot more puddles than when you did it 😂 Only bit I didn't like was the bit through the National land outside Wells. Steep climb on single track through a muddy wood. Not my thing. Thanks for sharing the video. Really enjoyed it.
What to do when you have pain in your wrist while wriding? I have a flat bar and my wrists are hurting at +10km. The saddle is in good place, good height. I don't know :(
For me on flat bars I tend to get numbness rather than actual pain. I have recently bought inner bar ends from Sq Labs. Still in the box atm so can't say whether or not they have helped, but have a look at a few videos. It'll give you another position on the bike that might help. Apart from that maybe you need to adjust the angle of your brake levers? Just a thought.
Hi Richard, Great Video and you're right, the King Alfred Way is tough! I did it solo in May this year and although a beautiful route in many places but it relies totally on the weather.
Another great video Richard the trails looked amazing and is definitely one on my radar now will have to be gravel bike though as don’t own a mb yet! Thanks
How are you finding the bike Richard? I am facing a first world dilemma where I could get an epic to replace my procaliber. But l'm not 100% sure as I do love my trek. A little extra comfort, especially downhill would be good. At the same time I don't want to sacrifice the speed of the trek on the road/flats.
Richard - if you've got the 46/30 Absolute Black (which is the lowest - their other subcompact is 48/32), that's quite a drop from the standard 50/34 Ultegra. So, did you have any problems lowering the front mech sufficiently and setting it up ok? And do you get reliable shifting at the front? Cheers.
Great video Richard and that route is now on my list. Regarding your rain jacket in the bottom of the bag, I bet like me you forget there is a zip in the side of the Tailfin to get in quickly to the bottom 🤣 Quick question regarding parking up and leaving your van for three days, do you not worry about it at all?
I always forget about the zip pocket Paul yes, however I also stuck inside the dry bag lol As for the van, initially yes, but once I start moving I forget about it quickly.
I'm thinking about doing the exact same route you did and will most likely park at the same spot. I hope my car will be safe, if not, I'll blame you 😜🤣

Rebellion Way is on the left.
I use RideWithGPS paired with Garmin 540 solar. Sometimes I'll create places of interest along the route and use voice navigation as a backup. This time I just downloaded the route from cycling uk and went.
