Great discussion! My first camera was a Yashica rangefinder with I believe a 45 mm fixed lens. My second camera shortly after was a Nikkormat (1971) with a 50 mm 1.2 lens. I used that for quite awhile before buying a second focal length. The smartest thing to do when getting a new focal length is to shoot with it for as much as you can, as often as you can, as long as you can. Just like an instrument, it takes practice, practice, practice to be good and comfortable with it. ✌️✌️✌️ AND GET TO KNOW WHEN WHICH LENS IS RIGHT FOR THE OCCASION!
👋 Hi! Thanks for this info! Moved a few years ago to the most photogenic tourist town in the world, and have been getting super interested in art photography, Ansel Adams style of the local landscapes… An amazing spot just opened up on the padestrian main drag with HUGE windows and lots of wall space, high ceilings… and I’m wondering if gallery ownership would be the best way to showcase my work. It seems expensive in terms of front loading but could see it being as successful as the other art galleries in the same area. Crunching numbers on pricing strategy, how likely in this down market people are to purchase photography rather than paintings… and overhead. The spot has a 2 year minimum and the last renter was there over 40 years: fashion retail. The track lighting is already installed, but I might have upgrade the floors as a way to negotiate the price down a bit… for rent. It’d be so local I almost wouldn’t want an online site. This is a special town, a tourist town. A hidden gem… 💎 on the lake that draws wealthy tourists every summer… I could sell coasters, calendars, small prints, etc. to democratize it and save the best prints for larger frames… I have a tagline and a name… But would it be smarter to see if my work sells 1st the local art fairs? This place is very special and kind of exclusive. I might not go online at all to protect that “you can only get this and see this stuff here” vibe. My target market wpuldn’t be just anybody in the world that has internet access, but rather limited people who LOVE this beautiful town.
Hey Ted, thanks for the videos, I have been following you for a bit now. Where can I go or how can I find pictures to use as reference to make my own presets based on a specific film, and what do you recommend as a workflow for actually making those profiles in PS based on the film? I saw a lot of your videos on color grading and such, but I just cannot seem to get the look right, or even close enough to films to be used properly. For example, I absolutely love the oranges and warmth in Portra 400 (I know some say it is overused, I do not care, it is beautiful to me) but I cannot figure out a way to model that warmth and depth in post. Any tips or tutorials to look at would be appreciated!
What a (unnecessary) giant brick of a camera is this? Looks really outdated. Canon wants you to believe that they are still state of the art but actually that's not the case along the Sony A1 and Nikon Z9.
Wow.. Thanks for your review as always.. If I want to choose between 24mm V and 20-35mm E, which one would you recommend in terms of IMAGE QUALITY, Sharpness, Versatility, and manubility for street and landscape photography.. Thanks again, Ted..
this is most pro-vs review video between 907x and X2D on RU-vid I have ever seen, just in time since I decided to upgrade my system from 135 to large system, and I was hesitating between 907x and X2D. Now I can say 4 camera system is good enough: SONY FX3 for video; X2D for street; 907x for indoor; above 6x7 for landscape. And most important they can share lenses except large. Thank you for bring me those knowledge.
You talk about a 2X, is there a 1.4X converter. I rarely have ever like a 2X they in the past killed the quality. If a 1.4 exists what is you impression and what does it change? I assume you loose 1:1 in Macro?
Awesome video! 📸 I’m curious about lens performance on high-megapixel cameras (60MP). How does the 40mm f/2.5 compare to the Sony Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 in terms of sharpness, especially on a high-resolution sensor? I'm particularly interested in corner-to-corner sharpness and overall image quality. Which one would you recommend for the best results? Thanks for your insights! 🙌
Such professional equipment opens up alot of possibileties, but its usually extremely expensive. I hardly find any decent cameras that are below 500-800EUR. I just use my Redmi 9 mobile phone camera in order to make pictrures for my content on my small channel here. It works fine with me till now, but I'm highly dependend on daylight. Once the sun starts to set, the pictures that you make with the Redmi 9 can start to look kinda pale....and when its night, nothing really works. Someone with professional equipment does not have those issues, he can even make beautiful night-pictures.
Hello, I noticed that you are using electric turntables for photography assistance. We offer a variety of electric turntables that can connect to smartphone and camera shutters for automatic photography, making them great for product display and photography. If you’re interested, we can have a chat.
That this lens is not f/1.2 has me worried E-mount really is the limiting factor that other manufacturers suggested it would be. Leta hope the 50mm focal length isn’t the only 1.2 aperture that E-mount can deliver.
I will proly pick one up. The FM2 was one of my faves back in the day. Hopefully this will be successful and the next version will get a proper 5.x evf or more!! I shoot Fuji xpro and Leica M. If Fuji does not drop a 50R2 or put a new xtrans FF sensor in the next Xpro, they are toast on this. The definitely missed this wave. You cannot push larger than full frame is better and not expect people to run out of APSC is fine cool aid. Good on Nikon. Now when do they drop a digi version of the S3? LOL I would be like bye bye all others.
Well Ted i received the email on the new limited edition Hasselblad x2d with the 2.5/55v lens...id really like to have your opinion on a second lense to go with this wonderful camera. My genre is portrait (street style and studio flash) with some landscape. I know that i dont use ultrawides much but enjoy tighter more of picking out subject matter. Im super excited now that ive got the ok from my wonderful wife to make such a expensive purchase. I value your opinion greatly so any guidance would be great.
It's wild how he recollects and describes the memories of certain images his taken, that's what photography should do for you, transport you, a Time Machine.
As much as I agree to what he says, and in all due respect, I feel Americans seem to take the long way around to get to the point. All this could have been said with fewer words. Remember we are all photographers here, not all green horns. Respect.😔
@theartofphotography - I don't know why it took me this long to find, but I have been searching for film recipe presets forever, and I've never seen yours in any of my search results - thanks you, just what I wanted! I recently upgraded my A7iii to the A7RV and my a6000 to an a6700 and I just happened to click on this video, so thanks again Ted!
This is such an amazing video, it's rare seeing these on RU-vid anymore. I personally went a whole year shooting on the Canon 5D Mark 2 with the 85mm f1.8 and I grew so much as a portrait photographer, I'm thinking about picking up the 50mm since the 85mm feels too zoomed in now.
Great video I always enjoy watching your videos I have the Canon R5 II but I want to get into medium format so I’m looking at getting the Hasselblad X2D or the 907 X which do you recommend or which one do you prefer 😊
