Yes those games may have shut down but … look at the years of running - seeing as S6 were aiming for many years - this could still help them do that. It might not be decades if daybreaks management is an issue. I’m giving them time to let us know how Palia will grow for the next few years.
I will be curious to hear your thoughts on the more recent Palia update, especially since the player base for it has been not returning, and they are trying to win people back with these changes. It's as if all the changes they are making if they actually listened to the community when it launch, or when it was in beta or heaven forbid when it was pointed out in ALPHA YEARS AGO, they would have been more successful. But as far as I heard, they haven't changed their greedy ways in the premium shop (including pets still only available with real money), and for them to proclaim to never have the FOMO issue, why was there only a short time span to get specific twitch drop only items.... There seems to be a lot to cover since I last can find you speaking about Palia, so hopefully there's much content you can use, but I'll be more intrigued if you would be for returning or staying away until they commit to actually listening to the community.
Umm Reth and Tish lost their parents not just their mum, just throwing that out there, and Chayne references missing/mourning for his dads a few times. I mean I get it, he's older, it's natural for his parents to be gone, but I mean, young people die too so if we're going by how much someone is hurt by the death of a love one it at least deserves a mention. Tish and Najuma have health stuff yeah but so do Ashura and Hodari (and Tish and Najuma both get resolved to some degree, the guys barely even have theirs acknowledged) and an older female character actively abuses a young male character with heavy implications of CSA (there's nothing to imply sexual/controlling violence against any female character, though you could make *some* argument for Reth controlling Tish through her treatment if you turn your head and squint, I suppose). In fact aside from an accident that's mentioned in a historical context, there's not even any male on female violence in Palia (though there *is* female on male). To use your litmus test from the 25 year old blog post though, let's take a look at the characters by gender and who's been through some shit and who hasn't; - Ashura: yes, social/external, war stuff, health stuff, death of his wife, survivor's guilt - Auni: probably not, but potentially, fem abuser if so - Badruu: struggling with business - Caleri: some historical childhood trauma, she mentions her father was a strict man and she feared him - Chayne: a little - he grew up lonely, saw some shit in the war, and mourns his dads now that they're gone, but he's pretty quiet about his own problems. - Delaila: struggling with business - Einar: mourning a father - Elouisa: some historical childhood trauma, she mentions her father was a strict man and she feared him, plus and instance of social isolation - Eshe: some historical trauma with a friend who betrayed her - Hassian: extensive trauma, first from society, then from the loss of a mother, then from an abusive older woman - Hekla: mourning a child - Hodari: mourning his wife, struggling with a failing business, some implication of childhood/familial trauma - Jel: implied depression and low self esteem from being the youngest child in an oppressive matriarchal family - Jina: a touch of imposter syndrome, maybe - Kenli: some implied issues with him and his wife, who openly hates an insults him - Kenyatta: a touch of family stuff, her parents don't get her and try to push her into a path she's unhappy with but they seem loving and supportive - Nai'o: high expectations and low self esteem, no overt trauma - Najuma: survivor's guilt from her mum's death, social anxiety, complex feelings about being an amputee, potential predator after her - Reth: literally enslaved by debt to a dangerous group of criminals so he can take care of his sister - Sifuu: mourning her wife, struggling with alcoholism - Subira: aaaaaaaall the controlling culty bullshit - Tamala: typically *is* the trauma rather than *has* the trauma, though she does reference the world being cruel a few times, so clearly something happened to her. Still, no excuse for being a nonce, I don't care what her personal brand of traumatic backstory is. - Tau: lost his master but seems to be doing okay - Tish: health stuff, dead parents, though she seems to be doing a lot better than Reth is, presumably because she was younger and didn't remember them as much, nor did she have to take on the parent roll as a child like he did - Zeki: a lot of social/cultural stuff, also mourning his mum but that's 'cause culture not 'cause she's dead So the TL;DR is that almost everyone has something they're struggling with, with a good spread of male/female subjects of suffering and male/female perpetrators of it, with the games only confirmed predator being a woman (not to mention Eshe who's just nasty) and the only confirmed victims being male (though there's some evidence to suggest Tamala may have had a hand in Leta, Sabine, and Taylin's fates). For those specifically dealing with the death of a love one, there's 6 men and 4 women dealing with grief over a total of 5 dead women, 4 dead men, and 1 dead baby. The fact that Palia seems fairly gender-blind is something I really like about it, honestly it feels like you're seeing it because you're looking for it, it's just as easy to do the same in reverse.
I mean, Hodari's 35-40, Tamala's 150-200, and Einar is 3000+. I appreciate that Hodari and Tamala weren't discussed and Hodari wasn't romanceable until recently but taking out the one that doesn't fit your narrative is a bit weak. I do somewhat get your point, more older love interests would have been nice, but it feels like you jumped the gun a bit with your offence. I also think Palia has a pretty good span when it comes to maturity. "Young adult" typically goes up to 25 with some definitions covering the whole of someone's 20s, and of the romanceable characters there's a pretty good spread of age and maturity level within the YAs. In spite of being the youngest romance option Kenyatta is one of the more mature and capable because she's been groomed for a position of authority (and yes the word choice was intentional fight me) while Reth, even though he's one of the oldest at around 25, is one of the more vulnerable 'cause spoilers (and also low self esteem). Others like Jina (who isn't a functional adult and has a very asexual romance) and Hassian (who's very obviously got a difficult homelife, an abusive ex, and implications of CSA) fall somewhere in the middle and yeah, I'm not comfy, as an adult with kids of my own, romancing some of them. But also the romances are very "family friendly" and a lot of the player base is young so I mean, it makes sense that the NPCs are mostly young too and if I don't want to romance someone under 25 I just don't, I let the kids have their fun and go back to Daddy Dari 🤷it's not that big of a deal. Goodness I wish Ashura became romanceable after level 5 friendship though.
Interesting video! I think most of your feedback you've given has already been discussed and has a good chance of making it into the full-release. It being Early Access will allow for improvements, e.g. Claudia already reduced bug-catching energy from 10 to 5 based on player feedback on the demo. I know there were also a few balance changes on battling already, but I do like that the intent overall is for it to be cozy and not too difficult to ensure everyone can enjoy. I'm sure by training energy (like using the tennis ball when they crave it) will also help mitigate some of these early game issues, but considering with how quick the dev has implemented changes, I feel very confident! I really look forward to the Early Access release as I'm obsessed with the game.

I almost beat the tower but maybe in a couple of days I will beat it the hardest part of the tower was level one pacifically the area before where you climb on rocks where there’s a spinning wheel and your parkour that was the hardest part for me but this video made me go past area one and now I have made it to area three I know I’m gonna be the tower in a couple days
if you make the gift items harder to get then the cozy feeling will go away for some players. losing a large chunk of the players. a larger chunk of the players play this game as a break from their regular games ie. wow, cod, etc. so they want a game that gives them relaxing fun without much work. i only sayt hat because my hubby who plays 1st person shooter games came to play this as a break. and hateded it. until we hunted sernuk. everything else he hated. its not for everyone. and seriously the game targets ppl age 19 to 24 ish...no one higher than that. wich is funny cause the people really playing it is people way older than thatttttt
It was cute the first day or 2, then it transformed into a mobile cartoon, where everything is too close to everything and everything looks the same, it's hard to know where you are unless you constantly open the map. I love crafting but this became repetitive too. The social aspect is hypocritical. Just girls running around. The kindness it wants to promote is boycotted by NPC weird attitudes. It feels totally confused.
I literally just tried to login and now it's unavailable via EpicGames because for some reason they didn't update that one. Now I had to switch to Steam Palia. What in the world? USA should be available am I right? Did some law or regulations change between this morning and this afternoon?

hacking the way people in Palia are is not server related it only affects the client side meaning the person hacking is the only one affected. with the people duping items that's likely the only thing that affects the server which is bad, but the other forms are just for people who want to enjoy the story without grinding. a lot of people9myself included) don't enjoy the grinding parts of farming games. I'm not saying any of this to defend hackers yea its bad but I would hack my self if I knew how just to avoid grinding. I would not do it to crash a server.
I didn't understand this video. You sounded like you hated or were complaining about the game and pretty much its entire purpose for existing and I didn't understand your rating system at all. the ratings were all over the place in terms of numbers. I didn't learn much at all about the game but I did get that you didn't hate the swimming. I see why you chose the avi expression that you did. Generally, I think you should play more of a game before giving an impression of it. It might help you settle on a consistent rating system
for me I can't get past the character name thing it just keeps showing me that the name is already taken but I call BS because there's no way the names I come up with are taken! soooo I'm stuck for now lol
Are cozey games even cozey, is the question, boring is not cozey, farming is boring, and so is item mixing if you ask me. Leveling up characters, and weapons is funner to me, kind of like in Y's Ark of Napishtam.

You can call it Beta, or early access, or whatever you like. Things are different now, and if that’s not okay with you, you have your pick of a great deal of other games. Have fun 🤘
i been playing this for some days, bought all the land got a big house, it started pretty good but its getting boring and boring, do the same thing over and over, alot of people running around but you cant do nothing besides cooking lol , i feel the game got potential but the devs only want easy money. Tbh sometimes feels like im playing a phone game.
I just started to play the game. I was a bit queazy about the romance thing. I wish they would implement more characters and older adults in the game. For now I'm skipping the whole friendship part.

You clearly articulated well that S6's promises over the past 3 years mean nothing to you, nor does the studios word or actions mean anything, as that is what the entirety of this video was about. So I question, why are cozy gamers ok with being lied to?

I agree with the argument but I feel like the fisherman, the miner, and the mysterious alchemist are being ignored. They're older romancable characters? One is even a father! Also I don't understand why dating multiple characters at the same time is problematic. It's a fantasy game and Polyamorous people exist.
Been away for a bit. This video is from before release. Einar was only confirmed datable at that time, Hodari wouldn't become datable until a later patch, and Tamara was never really listed as that much older (indications were that most characters were young adults, but she was just an adult, and the only datable one at that). With Hodari, and now Subira, quite a bit of the gap on this issue has been closed, but its still there.
Yeah auction houses wont make the game more popular or truly help it if they did add a economy id expect something more pso2 because people dont realize what a trade system like what runescape is truly is specially for a free game
They definitely need to add more characters and include older age groups. And maybe add some more single characters with no connections or existing relationships. For example - Nai'O and Kenyatta are a couple and Hassion likes Tish. I don't want to mess with their pairings so at the moment Im just pursuing the robot Elinar lel XD.
