Caan you please ride Toronto's various BRT systems and do a comparison/contrast between them with regards to payment systems, grade separation, stations, vehicles? Viva, Zum, Miway Transitway, Pulse
I grew up in the Montreal area as an anglophone and called Pie IX station "Pee Icks". I think I only ever went up Pie IX Boulevard once by bus since I almost never ventured that far east other than to watch Expos games at the Olympic Stadium, which I could get to by Metro anyway so I didn't need to take the bus in that area of the city.
The Acadian flag is obviously inspired by the flag of the republic, but with the Star of the Sea, the symbol of the Virgin Mary. The star is a very popular symbol for the Acadians who often display it on their homes. Acadia may have first been a French colony, but today it’s often used as the name for the maritime region and the 3 provinces as a collective. As someone who grew up in both NB and NS, to me they really feel like the same province.
I graduated WV Tech in '90. Montgomery is a shadow of its former self today. The college was pretty much the economy, but the deteriorating conditions of the buildings made a move to Beckley, where they could take over the defunct but still serviceable Mountain State University campus, the best course of action. I remember on one of my stops over the years to see how the town was doing that the Amtrak platform was being redone, and my old dorm had been torn down. Change happens.
The STM’s buses are pretty lousy, not well maintained, unreliable, the all-door boarding doesn’t work and whoever got the idea to put those graphics over the windows should be condemned to wear glasses covered with them.
I used to ride Greyhound in the 90’s while I was in the Army. Houston, Atlanta & DC were WILD every time. Got stuck in Texarkana once for 13 hours. Unpredictable travel for sure.
We used to have a Greyhound station in Morgantown. Ohio and Pennsylvania used to bus their homeless to WV and there was literally a shelter right next door to the bus station. It’s a parking lot now. Thankfully.
I'm old enough that the RTS buses were the "new" buses replacing the old GM "fishbowl" buses where I grew up. I doubt any of those are in service. anywhere.
The proper pronounciation of "Kanawha" is sort of like "Louisville" in that it's a shibboleth to let people know whether you're from the area or not. Most people from outside will say "Kuh-Na-Wha" but any local is going to call it "Kuh-Nawwww" much like Louisville being "Lou-uh-vull" versus "Louie-ville"
How old is this footage? Right now, the inbound (Track 1) of National Airport is closed for escalator renewal, so all inbound trains are using the middle track (Track 3).
@@MilesinTransit I forgot about that, but you did make it confusing by taking the Waterbury bus instead of getting one of the cool flex buses. I think that is why I forgot.
Always nice when you come visit my city. You should check out the BRT in Gatineau sometime. It has potential, but it's so slow. You can also check out the O train in Ottawa at the same time.
The way they spoke to you when you were trying to explain that your stuff was on the bus was as if they weren't registering a single word you were saying. Treated like cattle indeed!
Rapid transit, whether via light rail, heavy rail, trams or buses, is sorely lacking in so many cities across Canada and the contiguous US. Having trams and buses getting stuck behind other traffic is never good; hence the need for more right-of-ways and dedicated lanes.
They would be so busy if they would allow people to brink BIKES on the train we have a great Bike community and Trails and the Amtrack would be how people could come ride the trail goes all the way back to Atlanta ,
As a resident, the cardinal directions in Montreal are a personal irritant. Basically people think of the river as an East-West waterway, but Montreal is at a bend in the river where it turns to the North-East. The street labelling is East-West for parallel to the river, and North-South for perpendicular to the river. So that labelling only matches reality in the West Island part of the city since the island is bent like an elbow.
