"The League of Nations was better" - Rocz Tzu, the Art of War. Even if it's not completely accurate to the real UN, I enjoyed the chaos of Model UN in high school. Like representing Nicolae's Romania in a historical communist committee covering mostly the Cuban Missile Crisis and it led to all-out war. Korean War was supposed to be the first topic but the DPRK didn't show up and we didn't have time for Sino-Soviet split since it was only a day. Once I represented South Africa in a Yom Kippur War committee, gave some uranium to Australia thinking he wouldn't do anything against me and at the end he ended up nuking Cape Town...Long Island Model UN is wild. Model UN was a great way for me to interact with so many from other schools and helped me better understand other perspectives. Recommend! I can't believe you got dial-a-ride, NJT fare, and Jersey jitney enjoyer Alex Davis to do a great race with you! You, Jackson, and Alex together are like the Team Rocket duo with Alex as Meowth! I just love the transitions from Marc, Blair, and Barrett just chillaxing, drinking, and playing retro games to the chaos the other teams had to endure. Truly the go with the flow team, Marc should've been Ariel in the Little Mermaid remake! I agree with Rocz on GCM, yes it's separate, yes the escalators are long, yes it took a long time and over 11 billion, but I still think it was worth it because it's a crucial connection, this project has and will continue to help so many people who live and work on the east side of Manhattan!

Incredible to see a helicopter team! The word helicopter is adapted from the French word hélicoptère, coined by Gustave Ponton d'Amécourt (who demonstrated a small steam-powered model). in 1861, and this in turn comes from the Greek helikos meaning spiral or whirl, and pteron meaning wing. It's nice that one can take a ferry to the Rockaways! Not only does it give people of the Rockaways another option to get to Manhattan, but it brings in a lot of revenue during the summer because of all the beachgoers. NYC Ferry is overall a great deal. Subway is of course king in NYC, but NYC's historically had an extensive ferry network and so ferries are just as important to keeping the city moving! Glad we got an official Rocz review of Grand Central Madison. 10/10 will spend 11.1 billion again. Although GCM can't serve LIRR bi-levels because the bi-levels don't fit in the tunnel. Construction commenced in 2007, but the 63rd Street Tunnel included space for LIRR track because there were plans for something like it as far back as the 1950s, and a new LIRR East Side terminal was first proposed in 1963. However, the reason East Side Access wasn't built back then was lack of funds, so the only thing that got built for it was the space on the 63rd Street Tunnel which was completed in 1989 and also carries F trains, with a station on Roosevelt Island being one of the deepest in the system at 100 feet/30 m.

My grandmother lives in one of the buildings at the intersection you're racing to in Rockaway. I lived around Beach 90th as a kid. Wild to see that neighborhood on the show!

This past summer, I busfanned the QM16. It was pure torture. It went about 5 miles per hour on Woodhaven Blvd. It was a waste of $6.75. “Express” doesn’t always mean fast. I’m surprised that Tribal King was able to get a cab to Rockaway Beach. With the exception of JFK and LaGuardia, taxis never leave Manhattan. The taxi driver should’ve taken the LIE, Grand Central, Van Wyck, and Belt Parkway. The Belt Parkway would’ve led him to Cross Bay Blvd which heads to Rockaway Beach. This is somewhat circuitous, but it avoids the parking lot known as Woodhaven Blvd.

(Fun fact: The night Joey Ramone died, I (quite randomly) sang Ramones songs all night off the quarter gulping jukebox with NYC icon and Patti Smith guitarist Lenny Kaye in a dive bar on Avenue A. Imagine my surprise when I read Lenny's incredibly touching full page obit to Joey in the next week's Village Voice and he mentioned that night in the last paragraph. Now that's a fun fact.)

Love Justin's hat, I appreciate their PR spirit! And Jordan walking away after opening the envelope with Jeremy laughing was priceless. The Brutalism on Roosevelt Island is quite cool! I'm glad the NY state government leased the island from the city in 1969 and opted to build large housing developments to transform it into a transit-oriented community. This has to do with why the island has an aerial tramway, as the plan was to build a subway station as the centerpiece but the station was delayed, so the temporary solution was to build the aerial tramway. The tramway would open in 1976, the station opened in 1989, but it was decided to keep the tramway. Before the aerial tramway and subway, there used to be a streetcar line that ran on the Queensboro Bridge, and it stopped in the middle of the bridge at an elevator that took passengers down to the island! Today, the elevator storehouse is now a visitor kiosk next to the tramway station. The tramway was the last to stop using tokens, as it still accepted tokens until March 2004 while the subway stopped doing so in 2003! During the 2005 NYC transit strike, the tramway was one of the few public transportation modes in the city that continued to operate

Back in the days of the private bus lines in Queens, the Q53, then operated by Triboro Coach, was a real express bus. It used to continue slightly further down Queens Blvd to 63rd Driver, but then… next stop? Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge’s main visitor center on Broad Channel Island. I rode it once in that form, just after the MTA took it over and before they added the stops and converted it to a limited bus. The Q52 was spun out of the Q21, which originally ran from Beach 116th to the Rockaway Blvd A station. They first extended the 21 to Queen center mall, then cut out the Rockaway portion as the Q21 limited. Then, they swung the limited towards Arverne and made it the separate Q52, before finally making both SBS routes in 2017.

Yes, 4pm is a nightmare to get a taxi to go any long distance because of the shift change. Woodhaven Blvd is weird, if you look on Street view while following the Queens Blvd service road there’s apparently a covered over entrance/exit underneath the Long Island Expressway (just between the westbound local viaduct and the express viaduct), because the station pre-dates the Expressway (the “Slattery Plaza” in the station signage was bulldozed off the map, along with several intersections and streets to accommodate the monstrosity that is the L.I.E.)

Maybe one day in the future maybe some fans of the channel may want to race too 😉 As a brooklynite the 4/5 out of the city at any time is BRUTAL that's why I hope in my lifetime they finish that second avenue subway to a point that it alleviates the congestion. Jordan catching a yellow cab out to queens is iconic tbh. Also the helicopter team too. My route if i had the subway only definitely would have been the 4 to the A at prob Fulton st then the A straight out and if it wasnt Far Rockaway bound transfer at rockaway blvd.

As a Californian, I still understand the purpose of this video and got really excited! There are many ways to get to Rockaway Beach, but I never knew about the helicopter and QM16! I have been to Rockaway Beach using LIRR, A train, Q53 and ferry at different times. Without Hurricane Sandy there may not even be a ferry today! Looks like the most boring one is LIRR, I originally thought it would be taxi!

I take this production took months to rehearse and shoot? 🙂 You got all the NYC permits to shoot your movie, right? right ?
