I watched the petrol one of this show yesterday, with the grey haired chap. He said line for line what Tim said at the start of it, but he tested 3 different cars with the 3 fuels (petrol) Wow I remember it around a quid a litre. My dad said back when he started driving HGV’s it was about £1 for 3 gallons !!!!!
Back when diesel was green, and now its not. Now electric is supposedly green, then it won't be. Yes it cuts LOCAL air pollution. But please, do stay quiet about the billions needed to install chargers, upgrade the power grid, more electricity demand from electrical efficiency loss of batteries, and the current air polluting coal power plants which powers most countries. Oh, and good luck if your road full of chargers gets flooded lol. When the whole world goes 'green', oil will be dirt cheap. Can't wait for all of you to go green and electric. Oh, even if they can ban petrol, they can never truly ban diesel. Diesel's the lifeblood of trains, tractors and trucks and even ships and theres no viable replacement for these which is better than diesel.
If you do have a diesel one of the best ways of returning it to peak performance is de carbon treatment (Terra Clean). I'd recommend it at perhaps 50K and 100K. I notcied a difference even though I use BP Ultimate. In BHP it's only gonna be single figures. But removing carbon in the EGR could make it more reliable?
@@qasimmir7117 complete opposite to my diesel. Doesn’t smoke, doesn’t clatter and doesn’t take long to warm up either. All depends if you look after it.
Perhaps one of the big fuel companys could develop something that cheats your engine into thinking its cleaner and more efficient. Ooops , sorry, VW are way ahead of me on that!!!!!
I’m currently got ASDA diesel in my Fabia at the moment as the fuel station in my area has been closed for rebuilding, delayed due to COVID, and I really miss the V-Power. I also use the Esso and Texaco versions but the V-Power runs smoother. Now it’s full of blank spots and rough idle.
In my opinion asda is one of the worst in my last car I always ran BP ultimate but when i was stuck I fuelled up with Asda and on a cold morning the engine was noticeably more noisey and not as lively
3:01 "...loads of cetane...a chemical that..." No. Cetane, as it pertains to diesel fuels, is just like octane for petroleum fuels: it is a rating that pertains to how difficult it is to make it bang. There is no cetane in diesel fuels.
Thats why i love diesel! It evolved so much and reached perfection. It has torque and power. Not like petrol which gets evaporized before reaching the combustion chamber...
TEST OF DETERGENTS - diesel is a natural lubricant and I’ll be curious to know if added detergents in premium diesel could reduce that lubrication by cleaning it around the piston rings unnecessarily. This will result in lesser lifespan of engine. I personally feel my Diesel engine runs smoother and quieter on regular diesel. Any other thoughts ??
H C The problem is the smokiness after burn when diesel is ignited. If there are no detergents then it eventually clogs up the DPF, EGR valve and fuel rail sensor. Ultimately in the long run it leads to expensive repair. I now go to garages all the time and avoid supermarket diesel, following costly repairs, that my mechanic put down to "shit" diesel that I used.
I could care less about an extra 8 horsepower. do they run any cleaner? How about three cars running that same test 48 times a day for the next few months, each on one type of fuel? Does the more expensive stuff create less carbon deposit or clog the injectors less?
I drive a 2013 BMW F20 125d ... with regular supermarket diesel, it averages 48mpg or roughly 520-540 miles per tank. With Shell V-Power Diesel it averages 55mpg and gives ~620 miles per tank. I've used supermarket fuel exclusively in the past and paid the price for it with needing replacement EGR valves / carbon cleaning etc.
This is meaningless. You picked up a 3.8% power increase. Such small differences can easily come up in multiple dyno runs on the same fuel. So there is no proof here at all. Also, cetaine is a rating, not a chemical
Once i put bp ultimate ...and what can i say...yeahh i run much more miles ,km or whatever ,but the best thing ,ultimate turns my fiat into a ferrari...🚀
I love how they bash diesel cars, when a proper diesel car can be an absolute beast... An Opel Corsa diesel is shit, but a car like my E420 is amazing. Upped the power to 390hp and the torque to a whopping 920Nm... That thing will do 0-100 in 5 seconds. That's enough to keep up with sports cars and she'll keep going all the way up to 260kmh. I love the look on 3-series owners at the lights, when this big, diesel, grandpa-sedan E-class pulls away like a rocket and they are left in the dust. Proof that you can have fun with a diesel.
Gonna be fun trying to have your 3-series... You seem to do 0-100 in roughly the same time. Tho if we ever decide to race our cars, do come to Bulgaria... Fines in the UK are too high. And I'm pretty sure I'd be fucked in Germany, cause I got rid of the DPFs and fitted AMG pipes for better sound. And this kind of fun is illegal in Germany.
The 7G tronic can handle 900Nm and I added a secondary cooler to make sure the ATF doesn't overheat. If you don't drive like Jeremy Clarkson all the time, the extra torque won't do any damage.
Seriously? Damn... What car and engine do you have? Guessing it's a TSI. If it's a smaller petrol engine, maybe it's paired to a smaller and weaker transmission... Mercedes in the mid 2000s had two automatics. 7G Tronic - 7 speed - max 900Nm and two 5G Tronic - 5 speed - Small one can handle 700Nm, large one (for V12s) can handle well over 1000Nm.
The bit I don't understand, fuel prices have rocketed yet so has the extra cost of premium. The additives wont have gone up so why are we paying 11-15p/l extra??
2018 - diesel is uncool again as the government want to burn the diesel in power stations for electricity and are soon to be banned! Just a big con over and over!
Cab driver here I’m doing around 40k miles a year, i always use shell v power diesel because after testing a lots of fuel brands, V power is definitely the best for me. Beter M.P.G ( around 3 to 4 mpg difference) Good Power ( I can feel it ) Less engine vibration Less noisy Less carbon, emissions. Even smell better, 😂 And always maintain fuel system clean, never had DPF , EGR issues etc.. Also lots of shell club card points. Other drivers in my company use cheap brands fuel or they don’t want to put expensive Shell V power., But they want to spend thousands of thousands on repairing costs end of the year. And I have proof of that. Honestly guys I can’t understand that. Thank you Shell 🙏🏼
Assuming you drive something with a HDI engines like the majority of the drivers in my area, I run a 2.0 HDI 16v 136 and I achieved over 750 miles to a tank of Esso Supreme+ which is 100 miles more than the stated miles to a tank. I averaged 58mpg from a 307 CC HDI.
