Querido amigo. Te has ido y desde hace muchos añis no he sabido bada de ti.
Shirley Verrett sang both Part 1 and Part 2 of 'Les Troyens' on very short notice at the MET in the early 197'0s. It was a triumph.. She was always outstanding in her many roles. A truly outstanding singer for any era.
Extraordinaire !
Grace Bumbry doing what she did best and Gilda Cruz- Romo a somewhat underrated but beautiful singer. Incidentally the sound in the Theatre Antique at Orange can be glorious , but as someone noted in comments here there can be a slight time lag occasionally between singers and orchestra depending on the mistral wind.
Dear JURISMICH.Splendid election. In fact once again a steel from the Italian. This time to Merle , Mellesvile and Cantiran de Boirie.Donizetti took from them the argument of Les Deux Pierres based on the double life of a Zar who worked in the shipyards. Donizetti filled the stage with people and chorus very much in the Naples style. But it did not work in Milan. There he had to compete with IL Pirata from Bellini and had a complete failure. In fact it didn't work until in the twentieth century, one hundred years later it was played in the dutch city of Sardaam making the mare the important person. In any.case what I find fascinating is the war between Donizetti and Bellini which I both love and the authentic criminality of Puccini specially but of all Italian authors towards the French. So you can stick your chest out.Very well chosen passage.Congratulations.
You were right when you gave away that this aria was incredible. Verdi at its best,no wonder.I love the four of them and even the chorus. Two fathers that ONLY are centered in their son and daughter. His wants to humiliate her.Hers only wishes to defend and give her back her pride . It's specially beautiful when her father lifts her up and doesn't allow her to kneel. He tells her that she should only do it in front of God and never in front of SUCH a man. The young man s father is HORROR and HATE.He is all the contrary. He never chose that marriage. He ONLY wants his daughter yo be herself and never accept humiliations. Beautiful singing and mise en scene.Outrageous...
Wonderful interpretation from all the cast Specially from the soprano and later on from the baritone. I see that this singer was a bit like Simionato .They both had very large tessituras.Apparently the Romanian was considered between a bass and a baritone. The first part of your presentation is obviously a show.off of the wonderful soprano. But the second one with the other reclaimer of her love is the aria perfect for the father.It.s delightful how he describes the task of a father.Making basic la bonte and not le rigueur... Really 😍. It's a real pity when these good artists dissapear. The young generations are all less impressive,if I may say so. Thank you JURISMICH.It s been a long time without news from you.
Everything that follows a Shakespeare text with rigour should be defended. After all the hate, the deaths, the very king is horrified to die in such a choleric world. It's beautiful to see him drop the crown and talking to it , blaming it for all the blood and the horror.I also much prefer this FINALE.Much more tragic and devastatingly beautiful. I don't love the singers voice but I m with you JURISMICH,the luck is to have had the chance of finding it and presenting it to us.Thank you.Fascinating.And congratulations for the success of Verrets video.
SHIRLEY VERRETT was one of the greatest ever...... She went from Mezzo to Soprano and switched back and forth. She was able to accomplish this like no other female singer. I cherish my Verrett recordings and absolutely venerate her. REST, well, Dear Miss Verrett.
It is such a pity we don't have this performance commercially recorded on tape or dvd. Probably the best Lady alongside Callas and Dimitrova. Golden age of opera.
Pare brutto.
Great heavens..... a voice that is one a century, without doubt.... the power, the range, the passion, the everything!! Having heard this I am completely taken aback.. as we say in England.. "enough to take off the top of your head"
