If you think about it, he pretty much lived and played EVERY baseball players fantasy as child. Every kid that has played baseball use to fantasize or dream about hitting a walk off HR in a World Series, hitting a lead-off HR in a WS, making those insane catches or throws in big games, being a reliable hitter, playing in the bigs for almost 20 years, being the captain and leader of your team for most of those years, not just reaching milestones, but reaching them in dramatic fashion (HR on 3,000th, 1st to HR in Nov, ect), jumping into the dogpile after winning a WS. Any boy who has ever dreamed of becoming a big leaguer has dreamed or fantasized about all of these things, but he actually lived them. ......he also did it all on the biggest stage in baseball, one of the largest, toughest, most scrutinizing media markets in the world for his entire career. Most players of significance can't last more than a few years before the media exposes something or launch a negative campaign against them. The fact he was able to stay on top with the NY media throughout his career and absolutely no links or involvement in the steriod era, is in itself ABSOLUTELY EXTRAORDINARY.
On this video you can see Tino Martinez who was the opposing 1st baseman and who would become one of Derek's team mates during the domination Yankee years. LOL
From hit # 1 through 3000 he has remained humble. Ironic Tino was on first to witness his 1st career hit in the Bigs as an opposing player, then witness and experience many firsts with him as a teammate. Little did they know at that time they would end up playing together for a dynasty. His legendary play in Oakland not only represents his skill and intelligence as a player, but his unselfish attitude as a leader who always played for his teammates first on the field-- a true servant leader.
Amazing to see Derek get his first hit and go to first base where Tino Martinez waits who would ultimately join the Yankees, and they'd both win four World Series Championships together
Derek Jeter is an inspiration to all; he's a totally class guy and a true sportsman. The other thing I like about this clip is that all the Yankee home games are in the REAL Yankee Stadium.
dont know why jeter isnt considered the best yankee ever. he has the most hits in yankee history, more world series titles than Ruth, and some of the greatest plays in baseball history. also a completely homegrown TRUE yankee. brought up with andy mo and jorge. to me, derek is the best yankee in history. id want jeter to stay at SS forever haha. even though he's not done yet, you gotta accept his prime is over and he's just not the same player. Just want to say, thank you, derek jeter.
