Derek Jeter, so happy I was lucky enough to have grown up watching one of the greatest Yankees... no, one of the greatest shortstops... no, one of the greatest ballplayers of all-time.
If you think about it, he pretty much lived and played EVERY baseball players fantasy as child. Every kid that has played baseball use to fantasize or dream about hitting a walk off HR in a World Series, hitting a lead-off HR in a WS, making those insane catches or throws in big games, being a reliable hitter, playing in the bigs for almost 20 years, being the captain and leader of your team for most of those years, not just reaching milestones, but reaching them in dramatic fashion (HR on 3,000th, 1st to HR in Nov, ect), jumping into the dogpile after winning a WS. Any boy who has ever dreamed of becoming a big leaguer has dreamed or fantasized about all of these things, but he actually lived them. ......he also did it all on the biggest stage in baseball, one of the largest, toughest, most scrutinizing media markets in the world for his entire career. Most players of significance can't last more than a few years before the media exposes something or launch a negative campaign against them. The fact he was able to stay on top with the NY media throughout his career and absolutely no links or involvement in the steriod era, is in itself ABSOLUTELY EXTRAORDINARY.
I live in a seaside town in the UK, a million miles away from anything baseball... I've never even watched a game on TV. But this was bloody brilliant. I gotta start watching baseball!
As a born and raised New Yorker, and Bronx native I've had the luck to see Derek Jeter go from a skinny rookie with potential, to the seasoned veteran that is now our captain of the Ny Yankees, but this video gave me CHILLS, amazingly good, plus the 80s karate kid music oh man nostaglia all around.
I give this video as a presentation a score of 10/10. Whoever put this video together did an amazing job. All those highlights. Being drafted. First hit. First homerun. How they kept track of all those clips. Wow. And on a great milestone. This IS a MUST SEE VIDEO!
I really love this video because it shows how much derek has put into this team, how much he's done for the team since he joined the NYY in 1995, how he enjoy's playing with his teamates and being a great sport, and being a role model for all the future stars and most importantly, how amazing he is at baseball:)
Awesome video, gives me the goosebumps everytime I watch it. I am so glad that this Yankee played during my lifetime and love the fact that my kids had a chance to see him play and become inspired by his legacy.
I am A baseball player myself.... and I was looking for Dj.s 3000th hit.... but very nice video structure.... best amatuer video iv seen put together for a champ
this has to be the best video ever, gave me the chills, i still cant believe i was at this game, i was also at game 6 of 2009 world series i have to say this game brought the crowd to its feet more and much louder, i am so glad that im alive to see Jeter play, most people dont relize but he is prob the 5th best Yankee to ever live and one day he will have a moument in centerfield(my opinion)
Yeah, even with all his fame he's still underrated as a pure ballplayer. He has collected an insane amount of "big-time" moments in his career, the kind that are retold from generation to generation and end up creating a legend.
Congratulations for this video. I cant stop watch it. The best tribute for DJ for real, thank you so much. Im from Mexico City and a huge fan of yankees and i will not miss the continue of this great video. Congratulations, dude!
I don't get why people hate the song so much! I mean it's probably the best song for jeter, and the best derek jeter highlights video I've ever seen. Keep up the good work!
Great job with this tribute video!!! Got to see him play a few weeks ago!...Lou Gehrig will always be my favourite ballplayer..but Derek Jeter is a close second......
That's cool, you were probably born after the movie came out and didn't have that song embedded in your brain like the rest of us who watched it a million times over. For those that love the film and love Jeter, it fits perfectly. Thanks for watching.
Yes he did, the fan was escorted to Jeter after the game and he very willingly gave it back to him without asking anything in return. The Yankees gave him season tickets and some other stuff for the following season.
Amazing to see Derek get his first hit and go to first base where Tino Martinez waits who would ultimately join the Yankees, and they'd both win four World Series Championships together
