I have bought a double insulated exterior light for the wall next to my front door but the electrician refused to install it because it did not have an earth he said it’s dangerous and wanted to modify it by putting an earth connection on it, I told him you must not do that as I’ve checked the regulations regarding class 2 double insulated lights and it states they must never be earthed (I don’t know why) so he handed it back and walked away, how can companies sell these if they are dangerous I don’t understand, he said when the metal casing eventually corrodes the whole front of my house would become live, any advice appreciated thanks
Best practice would be to put it in a connector block, or most preferably a Wago connector as no metallic parts are exposed. Some people would just cut it off, but then you will have no earth if you require one for a new light fitting, and also could have some copper exposed.
Hiya. My lounge has no windows as we’ve a conservatory on it! So it gets really hot. But I’ve a problem. I have two light ceiling fittings. I’m looking at the fan less lights. Do you have these too? If so could you do a video showing all you do please xxxxx
This is one of the worst company videos I have ever watched, just number numbers, same speak, good for this room that room, "seriously consider", tap box repeatedly. Don't show the product. Aweful
Coming out this summer is the all new Merlin 16 cylinder multi turbo 120 inch 6 blader which at number 36 setting will remove you and all the furniture to somewhere else
I thought a 3 curved ABS blades fan generate more stronger winds correct? 2ndly the bigger the fan does not means more windy? The smaller fans are usually more powerful?
Anybody who came here for any type of technical or professional advice about ceiling fans should stop this video and watch a different one. This guy is a blithering idiot. All he does is point out what is either basic common sense or is completely wrong & any expert would disagree. His "helpful" rules are: 1) find a quiet fan so you can sleep... DUH!! (basic common sense) 2) he says,"buy a fan that is as close as possible to....and as tight as possible to the ceiling. *WRONG! Unless your room/ceiling is only 6 or 7 ft high off of the floor (of course it's more than that), your fan blades need a good 9-12 inches clearance from the ceiling to create more air circulation. Actually, if you have high ceilings, an extender pole would be best to sustain the most optimum amount of circulation - with less power needed to move air more evenly, effectively & efficiently. ... Finally, he says make sure you get a fan with a remote controi - it is plainly obvious and common sense that you prefer not to get out of bed to adjust the fan controls from across the room. DUH!!! Remote controls obviously make for easier convenience for ANYTHING they control. HE STANDS IN FRONT OF STACKS OF BOXES AS IF HE IS SOME KIND OF AN AUTHORITY ON CEILING FANS, yet offers not a single stitch of helpful advice! 😂🤣😆😭What a waste of time...
Would be helpful to show what to do with the green earth spare wire that’s floating unneeded in the ceiling when removed from old fitting and when new fitting is connected to only L N.
My current fan makes an electric hum that bothers me, but I like white noise so I run a box fan that just makes a light wind noise. Shopping for a large fan and close to the ceiling with lights. A remote isn'ta big deal.
@tadmarshall2739 I had a 5 blade Hunter installed soon after my post. Hardly makes a sound and blades look like they came off a P47, stirs the air very well even on low.
Hunter fans have a triangle shaped ball at the top, so their proprietary mount bracket must face a certain direction, and based on reviews lots of folks can't use them.
But what if my bedroom is 3m x 2,5m, and ceiling is 2,5m? Should I use the bigger fan or is it not enough space for it and I should seek smaller ones? Do you have any particular model recomendation considering all said in the video? Sure i would like with a remote and lights and quiet.
I finally got around to getting this fan out of its box after buying it a few months back. Wow, the instructions for this fan are bad... When I say bad, I dont mean unclear, they just completely skip loads of stuff... I have multiple screws and stickers in the box that arent even mentioned in the instructions. I looked at the online instructions in case they were better, but they are exactly the same. I guess Im supposed to just guess what to do :\ Why do I get 3 wood screws of one type and 1 massively larger wood screw? - But I only got 3 rubber washers. So either the large screw is an optional swap out for the smaller screws or Im missing a washer. Who knows... I guess the stickers are meant to go between the motor and the blade holders, but do I stick it to the motor or to the blade holders? These are completely unmentioned in the instructions. What is the purpose of these stickers anyway? To stop the blade holders rubbing on the surface of the motor maybe? I think I will guess they attach to the blade holders, but this means sticking them on top of the existing 'attach this face to the motor' stickers which feels a bit wrong. This seems more like solving a puzzle than following instructions
Mine made a throbbing noise in use almost from new (not a dimmer switch) but worked well enough. After a while, I think 2nd year of use, it started making a ticking noise. By third year the ticking was getting quite bad and pretty sure that the bearing is failing. I only ever use it on the lowest speed setting, but do have it on for long periods in summer. Disappointing that it failed so quicky. From what I read it seems to be lottery if you get a quiet one or not at new (the throbbing sound). I need to get a replacement for this summer as the combination of different noises it now makes is annoying when Im trying to work. Im probably going to buy the same model again, so I guess they are doing something right. Mainly sticking with this because it stays close to ceiling and doenst look like a monstrosity in the small low-ceiling study I have it fitted in. Same model means I should be able to swap it out very quickly which does play a part in my choice. I would pay more for something that makes less noise, has better quality part and looks similar. The bigger more expensive fans seem to be better made, but I don’t have the room for one. I considered the Neptune, but it’s just too large for my small room (2m x 3.2m). There are plenty of Chinese brand small fans, but I bet they fail even quicker and their quality is even worse than this
I am afraid that sitting with arms folded the way through, with a blase attitude does not give the viewer confidence that you are sure of what you are saying. The lady has done a better job of showing confidence. Don't take this as negative criticism, but rather as a positive. Try sitting around a desk or table with a couple of fans on it, I think you'll find it will give you something to do whilst presenting. Go on, try it!
You pull on the dome and it pops out. Bit scary when you first try it and make sure the fan is secure to the ceiling and you aren’t going to pull it down. Try to work your fingers in the gap between the dome and housing. Ideally you want to be levering the dome away from the housing rather than just pulling on the dome directly down and hanging your weight off the ceiling. You could try jamming a tool in the gap to help release it, but be super careful as it is easy to crack the dome. Screwdriver wrapped in a rag maybe
I'm just trying to work out how to wire in two double insulated LED spots using a plug instead of mains. I am going to connect the spots in a circuit with one wire going to the switch. The cable I've bought has no earth. It's a metal switch. Is it necessary to have an earth? The cable that will go from the light switch to the plug also has just the live and neutral wires. Is it ok to do it all with no earths, especially considering I'm using a metal switch and a metal box?
So I purchased a new ceiling fan for my sloped kitchen ceiling. After installing, there was a wobble, and I was told that the ceiling fan wasn't compatible with a sloped ceiling, even though it does use a drop rod...what you say conflicts that. What's your take on this?
In Australia these type of fans cost around two hundred dollars for a good quality one so converting the price and allowing for Uk vat which is double that of Australian gst why are your $400?
Jonny M thank you for your comment. Pricing is not set by retailers but by manufacturers so I’m guessing your question is probably better aimed there. Comparing a fan here in the uk to a fan in Australia is quite a difficult thing to do. Fantasia don’t supply their products over there so a direct comparison based on quality is practically impossible. Different costs are involved. We appreciate your comment and wish it was as simple as that but unfortunately it’s not.
