I finally got around to getting this fan out of its box after buying it a few months back. Wow, the instructions for this fan are bad... When I say bad, I dont mean unclear, they just completely skip loads of stuff... I have multiple screws and stickers in the box that arent even mentioned in the instructions. I looked at the online instructions in case they were better, but they are exactly the same. I guess Im supposed to just guess what to do :\ Why do I get 3 wood screws of one type and 1 massively larger wood screw? - But I only got 3 rubber washers. So either the large screw is an optional swap out for the smaller screws or Im missing a washer. Who knows... I guess the stickers are meant to go between the motor and the blade holders, but do I stick it to the motor or to the blade holders? These are completely unmentioned in the instructions. What is the purpose of these stickers anyway? To stop the blade holders rubbing on the surface of the motor maybe? I think I will guess they attach to the blade holders, but this means sticking them on top of the existing 'attach this face to the motor' stickers which feels a bit wrong. This seems more like solving a puzzle than following instructions
Mine made a throbbing noise in use almost from new (not a dimmer switch) but worked well enough. After a while, I think 2nd year of use, it started making a ticking noise. By third year the ticking was getting quite bad and pretty sure that the bearing is failing. I only ever use it on the lowest speed setting, but do have it on for long periods in summer. Disappointing that it failed so quicky. From what I read it seems to be lottery if you get a quiet one or not at new (the throbbing sound). I need to get a replacement for this summer as the combination of different noises it now makes is annoying when Im trying to work. Im probably going to buy the same model again, so I guess they are doing something right. Mainly sticking with this because it stays close to ceiling and doenst look like a monstrosity in the small low-ceiling study I have it fitted in. Same model means I should be able to swap it out very quickly which does play a part in my choice. I would pay more for something that makes less noise, has better quality part and looks similar. The bigger more expensive fans seem to be better made, but I don’t have the room for one. I considered the Neptune, but it’s just too large for my small room (2m x 3.2m). There are plenty of Chinese brand small fans, but I bet they fail even quicker and their quality is even worse than this
You pull on the dome and it pops out. Bit scary when you first try it and make sure the fan is secure to the ceiling and you aren’t going to pull it down. Try to work your fingers in the gap between the dome and housing. Ideally you want to be levering the dome away from the housing rather than just pulling on the dome directly down and hanging your weight off the ceiling. You could try jamming a tool in the gap to help release it, but be super careful as it is easy to crack the dome. Screwdriver wrapped in a rag maybe
