Does anyone find it strange that our healthy eating advice is indirectly from the USA; 37th in terms of life expectancy? They want to sell their crops, and there is a bias towards them as a result. Consequently, we shouldn't be surprised when we are susceptible to the same chronic ill health conditions that the ancient Egyptians were, who also ate a high grain diet.

There are tons and tons of programs to keep diabetic ailment,s to keep going on and on while all this is happening ,U must know that China has come about with a cure for Diabetics,using stem cell therapy and they have already started curing people ,why is it that the same cannot be done in Canada by those responsible for Daibetic care here We have some of the best stem Cell specialists in the world and are lagging behind in finding cure Like China, also there is a break through in Cancer cure in one of the south east Asian country ,Where they have started curing people, I strongly urge that that the same be made available to the ailing people of Canada .with out further Delay making a better life for Canadians!!!!

if I have not been working for the last 10 years, let’s say from 2014 and my diagnosis was 2005 from where would my 10 years count of getting that credit? Does it go from the date of your diagnosis Or do they regardless go back 10 years because of it from the diagnosis it probably will not be 10 years. If you could give me an answer would be nice thank you.

Is there a type of diabetes that you only have low lvls
@strat365
@strat365 7 месяцев назад
Hi. Help me understand your priorities and spending allocation of tax deductible contributions. My understanding is that 90% of the diabetic population has what I understand to mean Diabetes 2, that is the generally obese sedentary person whether young or older often evidenced in overweight or clinically obese individuals. The Diabetes 2 rate has exploded in one generation from being a small part of the population to now what, an estimated one third or more of the population. So we would like to learn specifically what Diabetes is planning to do to reverse the trend towards diabetes 2 and then pills and more pills before amputations, blindness and finally dialysis. Could Diabetes Canada not take a "Participation" type of approach because our society is fast approaching epidemic status. This would have huge costs for our Health system.

Hello Diabetes Canada Owner, I saw your RU-vid channel, you upload very nice videos on your channel. I have watched all the videos and noticed that all the videos are beautiful. But there is a problem with your channel! Your main problems are video views not coming in and your videos not reaching your target audience! Because, your channel does not have SEO! If you don't fix the problem, your video won't get video views organically because the RU-vid algorithm works on keywords, but your channel doesn't have any keywords! These problems can be solved by SEO techniques. Every video will rank on RU-vid if you do SEO perfectly. Doing SEO will help your video reach the right people and increase views. Remember, SEO is not a single task, it is multifaceted. If you want to do SEO on your channel, I can help. I am an SEO expert. Thank you, have a nice day

Very interesting video. When is Diabetes Canada going to tackle the issue of people on insulin on insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring systems in our acute-care hospitals and in our long-term care facilities who have disabilities and rely on family caregivers to run their insulin pumps, but can't rely on them when these family caregivers are told to go home or are told they have to stay in the hospital 24/7 till their patient is discharged with no bed, no food, and no water since they have to keep their mask on at all times.. I could go through the craziness I have experience over the past 23 years at Kingston General Hospital and even over the past 45 years, if you'd like, however let me cut to the chase. The present issue of giving people diagnosed with type 1 diabetes sound advice when they are old or when they are disabled has to be rectified. Believe it or not! I have even talked with a woman who is 75 who could pass for 60 and who was fairly recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes who was denied an insulin pump because she's 75!!! This is ageism at its finest. My husband was given very inadequate training and advice by his diabetes team from about 1978 to 2001. Even when we bought our first insulin pump, we pretty well had to find out about how to manages our blood glucose levels by ourselves after fairly limited training, although not as limited as some people get. It's fine for a R.N. to tell to read lots, but what does a person with limited education or limited ability to reads make of a book like "Pumping Insulin" great as it is? What does a person like me with a hearing loss make of a pod cast like Juice Box (?)? Are there transcripts available? Also, why did this woman have to rely on a Nurse Practitioner connected with a private agency? why wasn't there something like Telehealth Ontario available to her? The advice would have been the same, however, "Get to the ER!" Amazing that it took so long for the boy to be seen by a ER doctor as well. Surely the family could have waited in their vehicle and been sent a text message to come in when the doctor was ready to see them. At least, when the patient was seen, he was given good advice. I'm glad the patient was so well supported by the school system. Why aren't disabled patients well supported by the hospital system? Get on the ball, Diabetes Canada and expose the nonsense going on in our acute care facilities and our long-term care facilities. I'd be glad to talk to you and the general public at length about the situation in Kingston at the present time. .

What a pathetic, watered down video. Low carb diets/keto SOLVE the whole diabetes problem. It's just incredible how the medical profession just accepts insulin as a natural reaction to diabetes. Diabetes is CAUSED by your high carb choice in food. Even if you're eating "health foods" you can easily be eating way too many carbs. Many vegans have this problem where they want to banish all animal products and replace them with beans/peas/grains/lentils which at first sounds great. Now they have no saturated fats. Surely that's great for the heart. It may have advantages for the heart but now they're suddenly consuming several times the carbs of before. Almost everything vegans tend to replace animal products with are high in carbs. They also may eliminate white sugar and instead eat way more fruit. Now of course anything refined is unnatural and obviously wrong (white sugar/rice/pasta/bread) and we should always consume our carbs whole and unrefined. We just need to know how many carbs we're eating and the fiber so we know the net carbs. Like a few bananas can send your blood sugar way up but half a banana won't. You don't have to give up any natural food but you do need to know the carbs of each. The good news is you'll save a fortune in food costs because low carb foods tend to be way cheaper and they also tend to store way longer in your fridge. So that's a huge plus. Focus on the elimination of fried foods and endeavor to eat as much as possible raw. Cooking just wastes energy and time and always involves more cleanup than raw. Use a lot of garlic/onions/galangha/shallots/ginger/turmeric (all fresh - no garbage powders). Water fasting is your very dear friend and if you can remove caffeine out of your life, fasting is way easier. Start with just 24 hours a week (easy) consuming about 2 liters/quarts of room temperature (NEVER chilled) of purified (distilled or reverse osmosis or well filtered) water to eliminate your stomach from contracting and getting hunger pangs. Use this time to rest and recover from that week. Don't exercise on this day. Break it with one food. The food you crave most right then. Don't eat much. Your next meal can be normal. Do that every week and after a few weeks try 3 days. This is much harder but as you've been eating better it gets easier. The 3rd day usually is tough as a lot of waste is eliminated. Persevere and end the same as after the weekly fast, with one small amount of food you crave then. Back to weekly fasts and several weeks later try a longer fast. If you feel OK just keep going. If you feel particularly weak, remember you can always resume eating anytime. But the longer you go the more progress you'll make. Most people need to do this at least a couple of times before they go for the prize: The long fast that is broken around 40 days or whenever you get a sudden, intense hunger, a hunger you've never felt before which is when the fat reserves are depleted and your body is starting to starve or consume muscle. This is when you eat. But be careful and take it easy for the first few meals. It can be hard to control yourself but as you've practiced breaking fasts you should be better at it by now. There's a HUGE benefit of hitting this milestone because when the body's fat has been used it looks for other sources of energy and tumors are often used. So this is a huge tool for fighting cancer. Try to do a 40 day fast once year if you can. Many people find they can work doing a long fast as long as it's not physically taxing. It is important to be able to lie down when you feel weak anytime. This is crucial. For people doing desk work at home this really works well.

What a load of tosh. Can't believe you are using Ancel Keys flawed 1950's study as proof regarding saturated fats and cvd. If this is the best evidence you can come up with , an 80 year old selective study where he looked at 20+countries and then reduced to seven to make the evidence fit.

Very insightful information on exercise and sports including extreme sports. I too face the challenge of properly managing diabetes while canoe tripping. Adapting to increased energy output while maintaining proper sugar levels through proper legulation of insulin intake and food. I tend to keep my sugar levels a bit high incase of an unfortunate event such as dumping the canoe in a middle of a lake, preparing for a high energy output from the body such as a long swim, reccovery from cold water (possible hyperthermia). I keep forms of energy with my body such as glucose tabs, energy bars, fruit leather as best I can, inside pockets of the life jacket and hipsacks cliped to my waist and backpacks and pockets... There is a challenge loop trip I wonder if I could handle, which is called the Brent Run in Algonquin Park, approximately 187 km's of non-stop canoeing and portaging in a rugged wilderness setting, from Canoe Lake up to Cedar Lake and back. The record is supposedly 24 hours from many years ago, but a provable record of just over 27 hours, two people in a 16' canoe. A solo best that I'm aware of and am friends of the person who had done it is 36 hours. Diabetically, this would be a hard undertaking. An undertaking done in smaller increments beforehand as training to work out the demands of the body with diabetes management.

Hey Mark! Thanks for sharing - and great point about the access to low supplies! I LOVE the suggestion of keeping snacks in your lifejacket pockets. Another option for those who don't have a pro-style lifejacket would be to get a small "dry bag" (a small waterproof bag with an easy clip on handle) to keep your bg kit or monitor in and your low treatments. I love canoe tripping and lead a number of different routes with groups of type 1's and have certainly learned a lot through that. I think your idea of practicing and working out the details is great and am also curious about going after an endurance goal and potentially setting a best time. But either way, it's mostly a goal to get me enjoying the wilderness while staying safe. I'm in the Simcoe Muskoka area if you ever want to jump in a boat!
