Neil Gaiman wrote a terrific Vikings/Native Americans scene in American Gods (the novel) A boatload of Vikings land on an unknown land far, far to the west. They meet a single Native American, who they get drunk. Once drunk, they murder and mutilate the poor guy and hang the corpse up in a tree as a sacrifice to Odin, to gain the god's protection. The next morning, the corpse is gone. A day or two later the natives go all Custer's last stand on the pitifully outnumbered Viking, and then spend the rest of the week torturing the survivors. But the sacrifice does bring an avatar of Odin to the Western Hemisphere.
It was the ships and navigation that make them so intresting and easy to build a show around. It may be difficult to make a good story for the natives but maybe one day they will.. Dances with wolves is one of my favorite movies.
The PC BS is just stupid for the stupid fans. Women during those era, especially amongst the Native Americans and Vikings, zero authority to say anything to participate. You are whitewashing the history, just so you can sell advertising.
What really happened at the first met was the Germans at The first meeting gave them milk which natives drank all was good untill next day they got sick natives defensive fought thinking Germans Nordics poisoned them distrust ruled the day until figured out is this not the world we live it takes careful actions to to keep the peace.
There is a bit of bit of a discrepancy between the two races in terms of height. At that point in History, the average height of a Norseman was 5' 7", whereas the American Plains Indians were the tallest and probably the healthiest people in the world.
Really feels like the producers of vikings robbed us of the most amazing sequel ever made. Imagine a whole series on the first meeting between vikings and the Americans I'll watch that in a heart beat
The only settlement ever found is L'anse aux meadows. No other settlement has been found on the mainland of America. The number of vikings would have been very small. Also, the runes that have been found all over America are fake.
This is the most accurate representation of the native American people. I love their smiles, this is how peak social development looks: friendly, social, playfully, trusting, caring. This is what community feels like.
