Welcome To Pro Cal. My channel is all about my journey of restoring my 68’ Chevelle. Not to long ago a did a budget build on my 86’ Ranger. Let me tell you I am very pleased with the results. I am here to stay and keep uploading a true full restoration of a 68’ Chevelle. Thanks for visiting my channel, please don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE!
Man can't wait to see the rest! Lookin great dude! My dad in law's 70 Chevelle has been sitting in a garage for 20 years as well, hoping to get her sunlight soon! Thanks Frank!
Mine is a gutless 2.0 😫 I wanted the lowest trim level because I like the no head liner and the older style rims with dog dish hubcaps. But it’s prohibitively slow. And the previous owner deleted everything that can be deleted even the break booster but he didn’t put the fulcrum in so it’s pretty scary to drive the way it is. Luckily parts are cheap. Good job on your truck I like seeing these OBS trucks on the road.
Hey brotha! Is there anyway I could ask you some questions about the restoring process? I just got a 1988 ford ranger xlt. It was free and the engine is great but.... the exterior and interior are trashed and I have no idea where to begin/get parts.
You arent worried about the front wheels rubbing on the fender because of the spacer? The rears SHOULD be fine, my 69 is on weld draglites,15x10 295/50R15 in the rear and altho its close, it clears. And thats with factory wheel wells and no trimming. I want to say the front has extra clearance also, but not sure, i use a 15x6 in the front. Yeah, brake lines are fun.
I am although I think I can go down to 1/2 inch spacers. I will be putting the body on the frame this month so we shall see. If that’s the case I’ll either return the 1” spacer or bite the bullet on them. I hope the 1” won’t be a problem 😬
@@procalgarage1792 i gambled on my 15x10s, went by what i read on a magazine, like 5.5 back spacing, it worked! But im the same way, i want to keep 15s.
You got some good metal work ahead of you. Hey, how'd that self etching primer hold up? I used a similar one on my 69 Chevelle on my front chassis after i sand blasted it years ago, and rust kept seeping thru it. I had to redo the process of cleaning and priming like 3 times, and rust kept seeping thru. I eventually just shot a varaprime self etching primer thru a gun, and that stopped the rust.
Hey,...by the way, if you are replacing all your bushings, ball joints etc., look into offset bushing shaft for the upper control arms. Because Chevelle chassis have a tendency to "sag", and pull negative camber. The offset shafts give more adjustment to fix it, and a better caster adjustment. My 69 Chevelle has frame "sag", and its a small block 350 car.
Everyone takes the ball joint out to release the spring(my self included), but ive seen some guys do it backwards, they remove the lower control arm from the bushings/bolts, giving more travel for the spring. GM even had a special jack adapter to hold the control arm by the bushings. I didnt know about this when i did my 69 Chevelle's front end.
I would say about 2 to 3 hours. Although I took a few breaks, the tool is heavy and there were a lot of layers of paint. Also I didn’t prep right with attempting to avoid the mess. Lesson learned
How’s it?! Okay well it was really a budget build but there were some things I had to buy new. I got a brand new gas tank, water pump, the lift, wheels, tires, stereo etc. Other things I bought either refurbished or used. I got the transmission rebuild, Roll pipes on Offer up etc. all and all with me doing it all I would say about $6,500.
@@procalgarage1792 great man how about you? I am getting a well revised one this Saturday, only a few spots on the paint so I would like to re-do it. How much do you think it cost you for painting the ride and grinding the old paint off?
Man!!!! You know I wish I could have done it that way. It was really my first time recording the journey and I missed that opportunity. Sorry about that. But if you do come across any issues just comment and I will respond. I recently uploaded a video on “video short” of the Ranger. Take a look at it. It still looks sweet!!!! Thanks for watching
Super cool! Just did the same on my ‘68 project, but went with powdercoat though. Definitely not the less expensive option… best of luck! Can’t wait to see more.
Hey man ! Your video have been super helpful for me and my wife and her 68 Malibu sedan , I see your missing a headlight bezel, will you be purchasing a new set?
Hey Steven good to hear. Yes I will be buying all the bezels and grill. I have been debating between buying a new differential or rebuilding the one I have. As you know things get expensive quickly. So I will try to save what I can and buy new what is necessary. Thanks for for the comment. I will be uploading a new video each month from here on out. If you have any questions feel free to reach out. Take care
@procalgarage1792 if it's a gm 10 bolt, I would just buy a simple locker kit to have positraction and maybe a more economically price ring and pinion set to get some more acceleration out of it, nothing to crazy that breaks the bank. Same goes for if you have a gm 12 bolt. By the way , are you willing to part with one of your bezels ? My wife's was missing one when she purchased the car from a local junkyard, most likely was plucked. If not I totally understand man !
Buenas tardes disculpa, con este Kid que utilizaste solamente se puede utilizar con dirección hidráulica? tengo una ranger 1983 estandar 2 wd pero direccion manual, o abra alguna forma de adaptarse para poderlo utilizar?
Thanks! I am picking up speed with the project. It’s completely torn down. I was planning on removing the body from the chassis soon but there is some surface rust I want to focus on first. Anyway thanks again and thanks for the comment
Looking at picking up one of these for my daughter. She likes the old square body. How's the engine Maintenance on these? Is there any Facebook groups for tips?
Sweet!!! Man I love working on my Chevelle! I will be posting new videos starting next month. I can’t wait to see this car finished. Enjoy your project car my friend!
