You are correct that my Jo'berg experience was limited to the dangerous CBD (10 days) and illegal immigration is indeed a significant factor to the exploding crime rate. Of note, while filming this video from the bus, I did catch on camera the tail end of a carjacking but I did not want to put that in the film. Ideally the May 29 election will result in change for South Africa, including police reform and migration controls. If I am highly critical of Jo'burg, my week in Soweto was pleasantly surprising.
