driveline noises. ya they can sometimes be hard to pinpoint. if the grinding noise is noticeable at speed and you let off the gas - without depressing the clutch.... it is typically the differential. noise from a differential when lifting off the gas is the pinion.... the pinion bearing either both or just one is getting weak. drain and fill with thicker oil for the season. -- in fact it could just be low on oil too. you might want to check the oil level and fill with GL four oil. cheers.
Its not making the noise all the time. I am thinking it is in the brakes. It has that grinding sound that kind of goes with the rotation of the wheels. As you slow down it slows down. I need to pull the rear passenger wheel since I hear it more from there. Almost sounds like the drum is out of round. I will also check the diff lube just in case.
As much as I love to look at old cars in new condition, I could never own one that is nice like those. I would be too afraid of a little scratch of chip of the paint. Give me a car that's rough around the edges any day.
Ah, I remember replacing those control arms back in the day. Wait until you need a new rear wheel bearing in that vehicle. That job is bad enough to make a preacher cuss.
exhaust came out well. anything i know about fiddly things i'll let you know. the exhaust i mentioned last time is a peco/ansa muffler. vintage. ppl loved them. the ansa version had the inside of the chrome tips painted an organgy red color. peco either black or no paint at all. i love the ansa painted inside tips. if you go on "isaydingdong" stickers type in ansa on the sarch function. you'll see exhaust stickers to put on the sides of the tips. you'll need four. if you're gonna paint the inside of the tops do it before you run the engine for long. maybe use an etching paint first? painting i know very little.
I took the wife out shopping for Mother's Day. She picked out a new Bible and a case for it. It's great to be married to a godly woman who doesn't need expensive items to be happy.
not a monza. its a peco / ansa muffler. they always rust in the resonator tips first. cut off the tips - which is sad bc they were awesome looking new, but it is what it is - and weld on new resonator tips from ebay. hooker sells a nice looking tip that kinda sorta mimics ansa sport.

Great job! I had a '65 years ago and just got a '76 a month or two ago. Previous owner had it 42 years but sadly hadn't run for a year or two. Replaced fuel tank and tomorrow fuel pump,,,new rad, water pump recently...hoping it starts tomorrow. Loved the comment on the pb blaster. Thanks for the video.

Great Videos! I am doing this job with confidence now! Also, I had put a rubber air hose attachment up to the chamber opening to extract the main piston and BAM!! it hit the ceiling!! Please be careful if anyone is doing this. Scared the s*** out my wife. I don't think she will be hanging out in the garage with me anymore lol
dropping the manifold... hey... life. still was able to get it to fit, so all good. wouldn't worry about bracing the car when the body is on the frame. the rocker panel cut out --- that was a shocker. didn't expect that one. the single manifolds on triumphs would tend to wet the intake runners. so they put a coolant to heat it up as quickly as possible. su's and strombergs tend to have larger fuel droplets than other carbs. so this was triumphs solution to have a better more efficient combustible mixture.
'That exhaust really pissed me off' ... lol! I can so relate to that! Nice work though, exhaust studs always a pain & something of that vintage guaranteed to give you grief. I was wondering where you can get spares for old British sports cars in the US? or do you get them shipped from the UK?
Yes there is a few guys that sell used parts in the states. Also using Moss - Spit Bits - TRF - Rimmers and a few others to get new parts that don't fit!! LOL!!
Thanks for sharing the Roadster Factory part of the video, it was devastating to see the news on Christmas morning about the terrible fire. I sure hope they come back, my TR6 needs parts. Yea, sure, Moss is still there, and I buy from them too, but competition keeps the prices lower. The 6-pack trials part was also great to see. Lots of beautiful cars for sure!

With the U.K. spec twin SU manifold those lower nuts are a pain, but you can get a socket on them with a long extension at least! Your exhaust manifold is the same as those fitted to the 1300 engines outside of North America (possibly the reason your exhaust gasket wasn’t right), and it warps over time so the ports for cylinders 1 and 4 are not in the same plane as the central 2/3 one preventing a good seal. From your soot pattern on the old manifold gasket I’d say this has happened… I had the one I put on the Herald skimmed to correct this. Oh, and the bit that broke off that connects the two manifolds is to provide a hot spot and aid fuel vaporisation, no need to worry about it (not that you were!)
I took the exhaust manifold and a flat plate of glass I have and taped 150 grit to it and flatted the matting surfaces to assure it will seal I hope! Are you talking about the pipe that goes threw the intake manifold for water flow? My plans are to change over to twin SU's or a weber down draft and a header some time but as for right now we will see how this works out.
@@TheLostWrenchGarage No, the bit that would bolt to the inlet manifold that you highlighted had snapped off your exhaust manifold, that was what I meant. It sounded like you were talking about flatting the three individual surfaces? The two outer ‘arms’ can bend inwards meaning the three mating surfaces are no longer in a straight line relative to one another.
stickers are fun. for the racing stripe back in the day they put them in one of two places. either down the center of the car..... or directly in front of the driver - aligned with the center mark of the steering wheel. it was an aid for the driver. i say ding dong has some neat stickers.

@TheLostWrenchGarage I saw them, nice work. Much respect from across the water! I also love the car stuff too ... Well... anything practical really but cars and engines always did it for me. Loving the spitfire content, have a couple of car vids coming up on my channel shortly. Perhaps a bit more modern than you'd like but maybe a modern classic. A Land Rover I found unloved and super cheap, been sorting her out. As of today, she's back on the road for the first time in a while. Happy days. Interesting that the squaretail seat runners were hard to find, they’re not too rare here, roundtail seats and runners though they are hard to get. I took mine completely apart and replated them in the end. Looking good for your Spit being on the road soon!
Yea finding them is a bit tough but getting them for a good price is kind of what I was trying to say. Every where I found them they where asking over $100. Yes I am shooting for mid May but we will just have to see.
@@TheLostWrenchGarage having said that, just spotted some listed for £75, from a dealer who’s not an unreasonable price setter usually. That surprised me as I don’t remember them going for all that much a few years ago. Maybe it’s time to cash in my spare set!
Hi Greg Thanks you nice info. I purchased a Super Pro Poli bushing in my 78 Spitfire, everything fitted right until the rear busing at the differential, it is to tied fit. Any suggestions.
