In many cases it should cost less. For example, the other options would involve installing a sub panel or a junction box. To give 60 amps in that case it would require larger breakers and larger wire making it more expensive to install it. You would need at least 80 amp sub panel. If you used 1 60 amp breaker for both they would be limited to 48 amps max...so 24 amps each. Tesla instructions advise to put them on their own branch circuit too so to meet code they have to be installed that way. Lastly, separate branch circuits allow the chargers to be controlled independently. Since they are hard wired the only way to turn off is at the breaker.
@@ElectrifiedOutdoors I am trying to reply to this message and RU-vid seems to swallow it... maybe because there is a link to a .pdf document there... or the comments are pre-moderated?
@@ElectrifiedOutdoors OK, I'll try once again without the link to the wall connector installation guide pdf... It does not look like connecting two or more Wall Connectors to the same breaker is a violation (in case if they are in the load share mode). According to the installation manual, page 35 at the very bottom - you can see two diagrams using only one breaker. "Group Power Management Setup With Single Branch Circuit" It also can be less than 60 amp, as long as you configure the Connector to match it. I was digging into this lately and actually was able to confirm this with my local inspector.
Great, your inspector will have the final say. Yes the manual does appear to show alternate configurations on p33. I would either do individual branch circuits or a sub panel with individual circuits going to each charger.
@@ElectrifiedOutdoorsI, unfortunately, have space for only one breaker... For safety the plan is to charge at 60% of the breakers capacity. Should be still enough for me.

Is there a way to lock the adapter to the car even if someone were to stop the charging from the Tesla connector's button? My concern here is road tripping and leaving the car while going inside to eat. Thanks for the video.
Your welcome. I get the concern. There is not currently a way to lock it however I would suggest keeping the app open while your away from the vehicle as you would be notified if charging were stopped. Also, would be brave of someone to steal adapters considering Tesla and Rivian both record video.
@ElectrifiedOutdoors thank you for the reply, I really appreciate it. I have been spoiled by Tesla's Superchargers, so I don't want to leave them behind moving to the R1T.
Ehh, I’ve had the chance to look at multiple Gen 2s the doors definitely feel cheaper, way too light and lack the thunk of Gen 1. If I had kids I’d probably prefer them given how hard Gen 1s are too close, but I don’t and love the heft, makes it feel very premium. I really loathe the electronic door releases. Rivian’s implementation is as good as it gets but it’s still not great. Otherwise, I think Gen 2 has some nice refinements but it’s so much more expensive than my Gen 1 quad there’s zero chance I’m upgrading anytime soon. As you mentioned autonomy is the biggest gap, they’re also back porting some of the noise fixes to Gen 1 for free so it’s just a steep hill. I think I would try to lease a Gen 1 if I were in the market then buy Gen 2.5 after it makes the switch to NACS. They are better but the value for the money of Gen 1 vehicles is way higher.
You're very welcome. It would be nice if the Tesla system could tell if you had a membership or if rivian could tell that you have a membership with Tesla and Bill at the lower rate through plug and charge. Unfortunately, that's not the case currently.

I agree. Love my R1S. My biggest complaint is that we have to turn on the 3rd row vent everytime we get in the car. For those of us who haul pets in the back daily, in the summer it would be convenient it the vehicle remembered the last used settings so if the vents were turned on last time, they stay on when we get back in the car.
Thanks for the pros and cons. Our R1S max pack is supposed to ship from the factory any dayand I'm looking forward to a lot of adventures in Colorado and Utah!
Nice catch. Yes, that's the 2nd R1S. We took delivery of the 2023 in June of 2023...same spec. Rivian replaced the 2023 with the 2024. See this video if your interested in that story. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8u6xtQaPUcA.html
I have the Typhoon Pro as well and have tested it at two different Superchargers, a V4 and V3 and everything is connected correctly; however, I can’t get either the vehicle (G2 R1S) or station to recognize the charging session. I have a Lectron version as well and used that at the same spots with no issues. I’ve just reached out to A2Z for some help.
Thanks for the video. I recently got the typhoon pro adapter. For whatever reason, my charging session will not start automatically. I have to go to the Tesla charging station in the Rivian mobile app and manually start the charging session for that charger (which will otherwise show as "in use"). Just a PSA for others that might find themselves in this situation.
Thanks for sharing! Plug and charge is billed through Rivian so make sure you have a valid cc attached to your Rivian account. If your vehicle is brand new or you just took delivery sometimes the plug and charge might not work immediately.

I would love to see Rivina survive. As Rivian matures, I expect their pricing to be where the average person can afford one? $80k starting is high. I would buy a Rivian, but I would never consider buying a F-150 Lightning 👈🏾
I think Rivian is well positioned but of course nothing is guaranteed. The R2 and R3 vehicles will be the mass market offerings starting in 2026. Right now the R1 is their flagship and while they lowered starting prices slightly to 70k for R1T and 75k for R1S ..like you said....they are still very expensive vehicles. They do offer a lot of value for the money though.

@@ElectrifiedOutdoors they have to start somewhere, and maybe with the new hardware rivian will make progress. Or just license what Tesla has to offer. I’m not crazy about Tesla, but with autopilot my 13 year old can drive it. It’s that good 99%
Tesla is less about being a car company and more about their technology. I think the licensing of their ADAS will be where the real value is for Tesla shareholders. Will be interesting to see what Rivian does with the Rivian autonomy platform.

We got our R1S for $75k with the quad motors and we are extremely happy with it. Tech improvements will always be happening and Driver+ is more than what we’ll ever need. I’m hoping R2 will bring a lot of new customers in the fold.
Gen 1 had more features. You're actually downgrading if you're going from a 2022 R1S to a 2025 R1S base. No air compressor, no subwoofer, no wood grain in the interior, cheaper floor mats, cheaper-looking pedals, no key fob etc' etc' etc'..... You get auto lane changing and better cameras. Cost more, Gives you less.
To be honest, if you compare the standard pack, gen 1 I think uses an NCM battery and gen 2 uses an LFP battery, so you get possibly better battery longevity with that, and you can charge it to 100% without worrying so much about degredation.
It's definitely loud but I can't say it sucks. It's the best AC I've ever had in any vehicle. Yes, it's loud, I'd give you that, but getting the cabin conditioned in less then 5 minutes in the AZ heat, is amazing.
I’m in the market for an SUV for my family of 4. I’m crossed between a low mileage 2023/2024 R1S Quad Large Pack at about $75k and a 2025 Dual Max Pack between $96k-$100k. Do you think the refresh is worth the $25k difference between those two specs even if it’s moving from a Quad to Dual? Also considering Model X and a Lexus GX.
I’m in the exact situation as you except fam of 5. Looking at all the same cars as you. As a Tesla lover, don’t bother with the X. The space is not an SUV
@@DirtyBeemer1 We did notice the X isn’t as big but it’s not a huge issue for us. My girls are 1 and 3, so they’d go in the captain chairs and we could keep the rear seats up or down depending on the circumstance. My wife loves the utility of the Falcon wing doors given our girls age. I’m on the list for a GX. Love it but hate the gas mileage and the rear storage with the third row up.
Well the price of Gen1 is very attractive as are the lease deals. I think it depends on what is important to you. The big changes in Gen2 are the ride less noisy and less harsh (not by a huge amount though), you get more advanced driver assist (with software updates and there will be a subscription fee), Max pack gives you a bit more range, dual motor is slightly more efficient. One has to decide if those newer features are worth the extra cost of Gen2 over a remaining Gen1. If you really want gen 2. You could also go with the large pack which brings the cost down a bit and has an estimated 330 mi of range.
