Updated Lectron Super Charger Adapter With New Instructions

In this video we test the updated Lectron Super Charger Adapter on our Rivian R1T. If you recall in our previous video the adapter had a defective locking mechanism which allowed the super charger cable to be removed without holding down the safety release. This happened due to an issue with one of Lectron suppliers. Lectron promptly acted to make this right with its customer and set out replacement super charger adapters. This video has a test as well as specific instructions from Lectron on the proper procedure to use the Lectron Super Charger Adapter to charge your non tesla vehicle at compatible Tesla Super Charger locations. This looks absolutely promising, a lot of adapters out there simply don't live out to the hype. This demo proves that the Lectron supercharger is the real deal. Thank you for this video

I like Lectron because they are well known and have great customer service. Lectron products are also available at retail channels as well like home depot which means the product have been vetted. Lectron also built their adapter to comply with the draft UL2252 which is the upcoming standard for this type of equipment.

First off, great video and funny blooper real lol. I too got one of the defective Lectron Vortex adapters back in March, with the defective locking mechanism. I contacted Lectron via email, they responded quickly apologizing for the issue, the inconvenience, and sent me a prepaid return label via email. I got my replacement adapter within 5 business days. The locking mechanism and new adapter works great, Lectron even reached out to me to make sure the new adapter was working properly and that I was satisfied with the product. One thing you forgot to do in your video was demonstrate that your new adapter's locking mechanism locks the Tesla charging handle into the Lectron Vortex adapter properly so that it can't be removed without depressing the unlock switch.

Great glad they got your adapter replaced quickly. Yes I like that Lectron has great CS. Your right I didn't specifically show that...but...in part where I removed it I had to try twice and in the blooper reel it was locked in there like fort knox 😁

Thank you for sharing this information! I hope everyone knows that only the Superchargers with the thin liquid cooled charging stations can be used as those are the higher power stations. Tesla also has some new style charging pedestals with longer charging cables to reach most brands of electric vehicles and maybe some pull through areas for trailer towing electric vehicles. This is first time that I’ve watched your channel so please forgive me if you have covered all of these issues already.

Great point! Yes, V3 and V4 superchargers only. One can find compatible chargers by visiting tesla.com/findus and deselecting all options except "chargers open to NACS". I am also going to put this in the description as well. I hope most of the current NACS stations will be converted to V4 pedestals because the V3 require non tesla vehicles like Rivian and Ford to take up two spots. Thanks for stopping by!

Does this work on any CCS car and any supercharger station?

Great question. I'm told it will work on any CCS car but only Rivian and Ford are currently able to plug and charge. Officially only Rivian and Ford and I haven't tested a different make CCS-1 vehicle so I can't guarantee it will work on other makes. Other makes will have to activate a session through the Tesla app. It will only work at stations designated as being open to NACS. Tesla.com/findus and filter only for Open to NACS.

I am in Maryland if your ever up this way give me a shout via my website/email. The EV6 is 800v so that would be an interesting test. The only 800v Tesla ATM is the Cyber Truck.

So Question, I am new to EV charging world, with Tesla Super chargers do we have to set up an account or pay with an App? Similar to Electrify America or Charge Point? Also, I live in the North East FL (Jacksonville) area and the FPL chargers here are awesome if you are passing through, I would recommend them to anyone.

You should have a Tesla account and the Tesla app. Ford and Rivian (and in the future other OEMs who have signed up for NACS) support plug and charge (no app needed). With the NACS plug and charge you pay full price though. Tesla offers a membership for $12.99 a month which gives you the same price as Tesla owners. For that, you definitely need the app and account and you need to initiate the charge through the Tesla app. Absolutely on the FPL chargers. We used one last year in Yulee and it worked great!

Yeah those have been very slow to go out. I believe only the earliest deliveries have received them thus far. I have the A2Z Adapter on my website and that's the one I recommend for now if you want to use superchargers.

I haven't had a chance to try their adapter. I think they are all hard to come by right now but that will change eventually. Lectron told me they intend to have all back ordered filled in the next couple of weeks.
