James Findlay meets many fascinating characters in his travels as an antiquarian book seller. With this channel, he is going to share with you many of the stories that make up this intriguing profession.
James runs a book shop and gallery based at Rand Club, Johannesburg. Aptly situated in one of Johannesburg's landmark Edwardian baroque buildings. What was once a restaurant in the 1970's, the 200 square metre basement space has been transformed into a book shop and gallery.
On exhibition are hundreds of vintage posters; more than 500 antique maps; over a thousand hand-coloured botanicals and of course collectable books. “It’s the dramatic side for this fascinating industry that I’m trying to present here” says James Findlay who has been in the trade since 1997. "These items are artefacts themselves".

Hi James, have you rolled the seal out to show it’s content? I would be interested to know what it says also. It’s like a cylinder seal that I’ve read about from archaeological digs in former Mesopotamia.
