The Quagga, by Samuel Daniell (1775-1811).  Hand-coloured aquatint. Plate 15, from the book ‘African Scenery and Animals’.
In December 1799, Daniell went to South Africa for the first time. He is best known as the appointed artist for an expedition to Africa and the renderings he did there of African animals. The expedition (for this book) began in Cape Town and went as far as, Bechuanaland.
The reference I make is the Quagga mountain range behind the town of Bedford in the Karoo.
