Tr8s can be quite performative, but it's suuuper limited and outdated, even compared to the first Digitakt. It's effects also aren't really good, maybe master delay and reverb are okay, but the rest sound terrible to me.
So far I've been using the compressor as a Master FX and I like how it glues everything. About the limitations, it really depends on what you want to achieve with the machine. I'm not a fan of slicing, repitching, or stretching samples. And the Data/Sample structure is unnecessarily complicated in the Digitakt. Also, in the TR-8S I don't have to load any sample because you have so many kits already to work with, plus FM and other morphing synths. I could use only the TR8S without the modular if I wanted. The Digitakt doesn't even have a normal 909 kit, it has all that IDM crazy stuff that I don't like, and it took me a week to prepare some samples from Ableton live. Moreover, the Digitakt is buggy, and I panicked sometimes before performances. PS. I like your techno sessions!! I subscribed to your channel ;)
@richardeasel Thank you! Glad to hear it. You are one of the inspirations behind those. About the gear, I guess we have a bit different needs. Sample manipulation is basically non existent on Tr8s. With Digitakt I was thinking to also potentially replace bitbox. Also programming sequences with more than 16 steps is pain in the ass here and so on. But I'm still fantasizing, haven't really tried it myself yet. Maybe I'll hate it and go back to what I know best.
