All things nutrition, food & travel, and the influence of media on body image. I'm a Certified Nutrition Coach (NASM-CNC) but continuously learning and researching - this is a space for us to learn together!
All throughout my teens and early 20s, I'd been stuck in the same vicious cycle of extreme diet after diet followed by guilt and so much more guilt. Very hard to unlearn when you grew up hating your body. The whole 90s and early 2000s era was a mess. And the bullying never helped...at home or outside. Molds young brains the wrong way.
I guess we should also consider they have TONS of leftovers in their fridge showed in some episodes, so basically they ordered so much and only ate few bites.
Your brain consumes a huge proportion of your daily calories, up to 20%. Imagine being in school and dealing with this: the people you like and want to emulate on TV are living off 1200 calories a day. You have to bring or buy your lunch. You don't have access to a kitchen, or even a microwave in most schools, so you have to plan accordingly. Your whole diet becomes a race to the bottom to minimize, but you are in school for 8 hours. Fuelling your brain means sabotaging your diet. You don't even realize that your goal of skinniness can come at the direct cost of learning.
One of the many reasons I never liked the show, never liked the characters and could never identify with them. This was airing while I was a teen starving myself and exercising my butt off to "fit in" with diet culture and it made me feel like there was something wrong with me for not being able to eat that much and stay "effortlessly" thin. Glad this is finally getting recognized as the crap content it always was.
Vegans are dietary extremists. If that’s you, own it. But, do not try to gaslight me into believing it’s better for your health and the environment, when there is information that has debunked a lot of that.
1:49 There's your answer. I could literally put away mounds of food, any unhealthy, sugary, fatty, disgusting kind I wanted, skip a workout session, or two (or ten), and not gain an ounce of weight when I smoked. When I quit I immediately ballooned and had to change my eating habits drastically.
Avocado with coconut oil drizzled on? Was she trying to GAIN weight?? Lol Holy crap there are tons of calories in that salad!! Yeah, ok. I woulent be eating that to stay slim. That would make me so fat and I am overweight. I am 5'3 160 lbs lol I could never.
28:06 okay but people with autism also like the same foods over and over again because they like consistency and routine. other people just like to batch cook because they live busy lives and cooking requires mental energy that can better be used for their jobs and careers or hell even hobbies- EVEN IF THEY AREN'T LAZY COOKS OR BAD AT COOKING. i get not everything is autism but i bring this up because not everything is an eating disorder either, sometimes people are just peculiar and that's okay. if anything claiming their behaviour is a sign of whateveria while not acknowleging other potential causes to their behaviour is just going to make them try to restrain their weird habits more and ACTUALLY give them an eating disorder or disordered eating. every other cause listed was framed as a "potential" disordered eating pattern or a moral failing (laziness) you can't say "i don't want to armchair diagnose someone" and then immediately do that, it doesnt cancel out what you're intending on doing, even if it was underhanded. this really bugged me out dude.
I wish someone said like it is possible to get cancer from not following this to the letter it is their for a reason and your not going to get better without following it to the letter. Just like eye exercises can help you see. To be healthy and not like start pissing yourself or get cancer you have to follow the low food map diet to the letter. If you follow it properly like to your own body routine like you could sometimes get better, all the way sometimes too. ❤️🩹 🤒😷
I was vegetarian from 12-14 and vegan from 14-18, in the dairy state of all places. I’m so happy you decided to share your thoughts on the lifestyle! I’ve always had an estranged relationship with food, but every time I was eating vegan I just felt so over the moon. You can truly feel the difference.
I love the nanny!! It was hilarious! yes they took it too far as for Fran and Maxwell getting together but it was good. A bit too much body shaming and some seriously wrong things;f.ex the kissing contest Maggie enters with Billy Ray Cyrus.. 😱 that would not happen today. I think it’s important to remember that it was comedy.. it was satirical.. They used a lot of sarcasm and irony ( typical for British ) and all the Jewish humor was Fran Drescher kicking a** 😆 she really displayed the Jewish mindset= you’re not a full person unless you’re married and have kids. not just the American Jewish but all Jewish people. As to Sylvia’s weight loss it was Renee Taylor who wanted to loose weight. It wasn’t Sylvia that was told by her doctor to loose the weight she gained from excessive eating on the show - it was Renee. We live in a time where everything that is sarcastic or ironic is frowned upon and very often taken too seriously. Especially by the younger, woke generation. There’s a serious lack of humor. Can you imagine someone dissecting the I love Lucy show..? I was saddened though to hear Madeline Zima ( Gracie ) telling about her experience on the show. And also: Fran Drescher was very thin at the end of the show, not because of what happened to her but because she was sick! For three years she consulted several doctors to find out what was wrong and finally she found out that she had cancer. ( check out her book or Organization “Cancer Schmancer” )
How are these two characters so iconic, they are the epitome of being unlikable 😂 I'm almost sure Gillian Flynn wrote the Cool Girl monologue with them in mind.
Nice choice the places you have been. I was born in Berat Raki it was too strong, wasn't it? I don't like it either. I think what you enjoyed more was frekase and fish dish. 👏 👏 nice presentation of Albania.
I mean yea the fat shaming and putting other women down is bad, but I really dont see the issue with the "I eat a lot but am skinny" trope. Yes its not realistic but who gives a shit really. Also I know friends in real life who act like this, say they eat a ton but are stick thin. Obviously I know theyre likely not eating like that all the time cause otherwise theyd gain weight, but women saying that they eat a ton while they are skinny is common. In the end this is all just fantasy. What woman wouldnt love being able to eat whatever and still stay skinny? Its TV, it doesnt need to be realistic. Its a bit annoying that they always say it but thats it. Its not realistic, if we did count out the calories they ate they would likely be at least overweight. But who cares? Its not like people are taking diet advice from Gilmore Girls and seriously think what the characters eat must equal the actors weights. Also your spit bucket tangeant doesnt feel relevant at all? That is extremely common in acting. Also the "sitting down for breakfast but not touching anything" is also super common in TV if you look out for it. Very simple reason, they have a food prop they dont want to get destroyed at every take, so the actor wont eat any. Its a bit silly when you notice it, but I dont see why its a problem. Its literally just a bit of lazy film making, its not making a point.
Heyyy patiently waiting for IBS breakfast for IBS d is safe gluten free bread I'm hungry on morning time but no option 😭 no tea no biscuits bread tired alot
Great video, but after a saw a video where Jennifer Aniston is saying that salad recipe is fake :O Actually is Lettuce (Iceberg), Tomato, Chickpeas, Bacon (Turkey), Salami, Chicken, Pecorino cheese.
Very inspiring! Thank you! Just discovered your channel today looking for information on low Fodmap (I watched your low fodmap simplified video which was extremely helpful). I subscribed to your channel. 🙏
12:44 mentiong the relatability u feel to the characters when they eat like normal people reminded me of kdramas. korean are very emotial people when it comes to eating, its a tradition that they express love, care and affection by cooking and eating together and always appreciating a good meal with who they love, they tend to express love by asking about what u eat and remind u to eat and be healthy, food in kdramas is used to express emotions, u feel a a character lonliness, exhaustion, longing when u see them eating alone cuz koreans are complix in terms of self-expression and that is also shown in that way, Also u feel the affection btw characters when they eat together in calm and harmony, not by words, seeing these people eat makes u feel so relatible to them and appreciate a healthy relationship with food more.
