Wow. I’m really impressed by how much research you did. All of the food was very authentic and I’m really glad you didn’t mock it or make fun of how Slovak words sound. 😊

I honestly kept trying so hard to say “thank you” in Slovak and I kept forgetting how to pronounce it correctly 🫠 being a non-native English speaker I just appreciate so much that everyone there was able to communicate with us so well in English too :)

My mother's parents are from Bratislava. I have many cousins there. We used to get handmade gifts from them at Easter, Christmas and birthdays. With long letters before all this internet stuff.

Someday I’ll get there. My grandparents on my mom’s side were Slovak. I wish I had learned more of the language when I was younger.

Same here. Mom was having trouble teaching me Slovak a long time ago. Mom's parents were from around Bratislava.

I came for the thumbnail. 😄 The blue church is designed by one of my favourite architect Lechner Ödön, in secession style. Hope you had a nice stay!

Thanks for showing me my former home, it's changed a lot. Our traditional food is still the same and I'm glad that so many foreigners like halusky. Not my favourite food. At least you got to wash it down with slivovica. That was quite big, good that you didn't get drunk. Am glad to see my favourite coffee shop still there. It didn't look anything like it when I was a child but they always had excellent products. Can't wait to sample the cakes next time 😋

Kofola is alright once you get used to it. That was the case for me when I first tried it than I got to like it with time.

It would be awsome if you could include the prices with your meals! Either like Sam & Audrey who share the bill after their meal or like Kieun Choi who pops the price on the screen when she shows her drinks/food.

Thanks for the suggestion, I haven’t watched those creators but I’ll have a look! For reference here, in Bratislava main dishes were around €8 - the lunch I showed was around €25 for the both of us inc all food and drinks 😊

Kofola is definitely an acquired taste. It’s fruit & herb sirup basically.

Eh Slivovica is not so good, you should try Tatra tea. There are plenty of variations. Some are more sweet, and some are even stronger than Slivovica itself.

I have to be honest, their food was the worst in Europe/ the world (that I’ve been to) … I am glad you loved it though.

I totally get it’s not a taste everyone will appreciate! But I really like to understand why different countries’ foods are what they are and learning that in Slovakia most people used to have to be self-sufficient explains a lot about why their traditional foods rely on only a few ingredients - it’s what they could get from their home farms that wouldn’t spoil easily! I wouldn’t eat it every day but it’s a piece of edible history and I think it’s so interesting :)

Yes I once asked a chef why all the food was like this.. (He was a friend of a friend and wasn’t offended) he explained in detail. I understand. However, I wouldn’t pick to eat it ever again. It honestly was so bad I was in shock. I’ve traveled to many many places. I love speaking to locals and eating like them, however it didn’t work out this one time.
