Reinventing the wheel, one mistake at a time. Stuff I do on this channel: Metal castings, bronze casting, sculpting, painting, making bird boxes, metal fabrication, ruin renovating and making (distinctly average) videos... These are just a few things I'm terrible at! I'm happy if I'm busy making something :) I hope you enjoy the videos! Julian 'One persons mid-life crisis, is another persons entertainment'
Some improvements: have a 3d printed core that goes into the sand with the rest of the axe as a place holder for your sand core, so you won't damage the sand core; have relief lines in the sand from the tips of the axe head, and anywhere else that air could get trapped. These can be cut / grinded off later pretty easily.
I built one of those Artful Bodger burners years ago, and it was terrifyingly hot when it ran well. (But I often struggled to get it to run well.) I hope you ended up lining your burner body with castable refractory.
What is stopping you from casting each modular piece separately and then assembling whatever flask you need whenever you need it? Is it really just the shrinkage in the aluminum parts that makes tolerances hard to achieve? Or is it that you're worried that it won't be rigid? If you could quickly make any flask dimensions whenever then you could save on sand, upgrade over time, potentially have less to lift, make several mini flasks that are independent for the same pouring session, and easily store the pieces in a box until they are needed.
hey, i am watching this stoned as shit and I thought I was tweaking after u played the intro for the second time lmao, anyway love the painting u made of wiliam and do u perhaps have a scan of the image, I want it in my folder of "rolling" backgrounds on my PC. much love from slovenia <3
4 years late to the party, i know, but... go watch olfoundryman do his flasks. He does a 3d printed version with separate side pieces. You stick them to a backing board, put your pattern on them, ram up your drag, remove the backing board with the side pieces, and you don't have to make a parting line by digging. It's an awesome technique! Anyone who doesn't already watch him needs too.
The vapouring chamber is getting red hot. Could the interior wall of it be insulated like the furnace to conserve heat and make it touch safe ? Or would the interior of the chamber not get hot enough ? Does the casing glowing red hot play a vital role in the efficiency of the burner ? Great video by the way.
Thanks John! I think insulating the chamber would be a good idea, i think it could only help vaporise the diesel more. Not sure about your final question, the diesel needs to be very hot to vaporise well but how hot I don’t know. Thanks for your comment :)
Hi Eric! I use a 3d printer to make my molds. As long as there is some side slope (draft) so you can pull it from the sand without breaking the sand, it works well. I like 8% draft but if you are beginning I’d try 15%.
Umm have no idea if this video was produced to show how to install LED or how you fixed the flicker... i spent my time to watch all this video, but i have no idea what I looked at.. you have a solution to eliminate the flickering???
Awesome video! One of the best on the subject I have seen. Great charts and tips. I will be utilizing all of your ideas. I do have a few suggestions that might help. You read how everyone talks about vortex.... Changing the angle of your blower end [ the foundry end] a little upwards and maybe even add a plate to direct the flame in a vortex direction instead of the side of the crucible might help?
It's not clear what you did. Did you let the Gold fully Dry before applying sealer? Did you have the steel ball in the sun? It should work normal if the instructions are followed precisely. + Taking 8nto consideration the temperature of the metal ball. It must have a aealer, particularly oitside, and that requires an oil base for durability.
Yes! It’s worked well for me. There is the final one I made (there is a video on my channel somewhere!) and there is an updated pattern too but it’s untested by me.
Can I ask you a little about the power supply for this fuel pump? I live in the USA and I’m not an electricity guy really so I’m not sure what I need to be looking at for a compatible power supply. You got something with a digital voltage display? Does the amperage need to be of a certain threshold or is it just a direct plug into home power with a dial/potentiometer on it? Thank you!
I suggest you keep the pins the length you have as this will help align the cope and drag over high components so that you pull them apart vertically. shorter pins may allow some sideways movement before you clear the patterns.
Diesel is expensive,i have over a ton of used engine oil.Can air blower be used with old engine oil like u have on this video ?.Or only option for used oil to burn is with some sort of nozzle and pressurized air (compressor) ?.
Old engine oil is definitely ok for a furnace, i think they use a blower and just drip it into the airstream with gravity - so no need for a pump. Check out luckygen1001 channel, i'm sure he's made one with motor oil
It is so important burner practical operations. The safety precautions must be mentioned before starting the process of This technical information. Thanks from all staff for prepare for the process of this technical information.
