great video, can you advise should the fan spin as freely on the bearings the way it did in your video? I'm thinking of replacing my PCB unit as a lot of burn marks on it, but my fan does not spin as freely as yours.
I think its when you turn on and off via the spur and the boiler switch position is on and calling for hw or heating, i realised it was the fan pcb as with cover off in the dark i could see a spark from the fan motor pcb and i knew it was shorting out. Normally the Mosfet or resistor but i also noticed what looks like the timer chip had blown silicon so maybe me keep turning on and off may caused more damage. Replaced pcb and all works fine now.
nice ive had and owned nearly all cz,s in england i was dealer the strange thing now after all these years i still cant believe people dont take the restrictor tube out the airbox i have never found a cz where it was removed lol if you take it out its a different beast.
My boiler stopped working on startup after a two week holiday and being a sparky had a nose around and I found the fan pcb blown but was hesitant to just swap it out with a new one not knowing the probable cause until I saw this video..all up and running now cheers🍻🍻
Is this not the service mode blue light ?..double check or Flue blockages. Condensate pipe blockages. A faulty ignition electrode. A faulty flame sensor. Gas leaks. Low gas pressure. Low boiler pressure
above the fan should be a black clip on tray this catches the water if the elbow above leaks costs a tenner the elbow and sealsx2 are a tenner city plumbing bit arkward to remove as they weld themselves on with crud but some gentle bashing and levering it will come off ive always had to remove the whole unit back to the top of the burner,,, so the board change is quicker and much less cost,, apparently a diode blows and it is replaceable,, Worcester upgraded their later boards info is out there on forums so replace the board with this new diode
Thanks for this video. I have an issue where the fan controller is blowing the main fuse on the board. I worked our how to remove the pcb like you show. The motor windings are iro 60 ohms resistance so I believe okay. New pcb? Oh - someone has answered this below. 60 ohms is good.
The Cz 175 was my first motorbike. Interesting kick start/gear change 😆 it wasn't fast and if the speedometer got over about 50mph the needle would bounce about!
I have a similar sonoff 4ch pro. The 8 pin IC on the top left is burnt out. Can you please help me with the part number of the 8 pin SMD on the top left.
Good work. I have just traced the PCB for a CDI 40 as the fan board exploded on pre gas powerup. This was a power on check to run the pump up and check for leaks. The fan board (and motor) was the one with the small turret on top and equal pitch screws. Not the same as the one here. The monolithic IC had exploded after a number of seconds. The line and neutral from the control are the wrong way round so the fuse on the fan does nothing. The 3 control wires are incorrect. It's simply the wrong fan despite the part being original (?). The 4 fet board has the correct wiring for power and control. The fans are NOT interchangeable. All the best.
Thanks for the video Rob. My Greenstar 28i Junior has a rapid flashing blue light with the Reset button flashing. The boiler works for a while but locks out after 10 mins or so, if running a bath for example. After resetting the boiler can work again for a while. Could this be down to the fan?
Hi. It could be many things.... no gas or incorrect gas pressure gas valve faulty combustion CO2 levels out of range blocked flue (try this first) blocked condensate pipe or frozen condensate pipe ignition electrodes or harness faulty pcb faulty. Try the flue.....I've had a bird nesting in one........
Hi Rob, great video. May I ask you, had same issue. Boiler off, turned on apparently OK, call for hot water, works fine for a couple of minutes than blackout. No power. I checked the main PCB, 2A fuse blown. Replaced, and since then whatever I call there's no activity. I switched the fan PCB with a new one but still nothing happens. Shall I go for the entire fun body part? It does spin manually, I know there's electricity going through but no fan moving and so it doesn't initiate.
Can you tell me please can I use this with the phone app to be able to remotely switch on devices when I am say 12 miles from home via 4G . Or does it only work when all items are onthe same network ?
Hi Rob, We have a Worcester 28i green-star combi boiler that have developed a problem. before we left home for our family holiday for 3 weeks, we turned the boiler off at the Switched fused spur which is situated just outside the boiler. upon arriving home. we switched the boiler back on at the switched fused spur. almost instant after switching it on. the boiler lost all power. I checked the 3A fuse in the switched spur and the fuse had blown. replaced the 3A fuse but it keeps blowing the fuse instantly upon switching the boiler on ? Hope you can shed some light on this issue,
Hi Rob, hope this finds you in good spirit, My 6 month old Sonoff basic R2 konked off ... I tried changing the relay, but it will not budge, it will not come back on (sadly the original relay broke off while desoldering it out) (Also there is no glass fuse, its seems to be a 5 band 10 Ohms 5% resistor in its place inside a heat shrink tube).. ... Anyhow Funny though 5 other Sonoff basic R2's switches have been working for over three years perfectly well ... And this new unit circuit broke and I cannot figure what component has popped. ... I'd be totally thankful if you could guide me on how to fix this.
*Pairs up. Works like it should. **do7.pl/SonoffHub** No problems so far. Pretty simple. No issues.I posted a picture of it next to the inovelli switch for size comparison.*
Thanks, how do I switch off the sonoff bridge without powering down? It is working as an alarm that cannot be put off which is a pain, when I am home or has to keep going off because I am there, unplugging the unit doesn't sound right, what should I do
Usually a safety power resistor like 2.2Ohms to 10 ohms in value burns out which you might find has turned dark, different fans may have different values, this resistor burns when one or two of the the 4 power FET transistors go internally shorted out, if you replace all 4 Mosfets, then 8 out of 10 times it will work again, only in some rare cases further damage can be caused to other parts of the circuit board, I get a few gas safe engineers bring me fans for repairs.
That's happened to may PCB, 257 - 10R safety resistor blown , indicating most likely mosfets blow, however I measured source to drain and later to gates, didn't look shorted (unless I charged the gate) and then closed and may looks shorted, don't know the correct values .. Just briefly looked at them with multimeter .. I will get some datasheet for trans and repeat diagnosis.. Thanks for clue, but I know it something really bad when fused resistor gone ..
Thanks for this video I have managed to setup individual routines to open and close my electric gate, and my garage. The problem I'm experiencing is that I can't create a routine that does both successfully together. I can hear the relays clicking but nothing happens. They are set to inching mode and I've tried .5, 1 and 1.5 sec push values. I also have the relays set to power off state not that it matters. Would you have any suggestions?
Flashing blue light and no green light, fan not spinning. Saw this video, bought a second hand fan unit off Ebay for £25 (circuit board on its own would have been £38), swapped out the circuit board. Five minutes to fit and my completely dead boiler is back working again! Many thanks, let me know if you have PayPal so that I can send you a fiver :-)
Hi Rob , I'm looking for something to provide a timed relay function - I saw that you mentioned the orange unit at the start of the video . Like you , I don't want lots of individual parts to get what I need done ( an electric sliding rooflight) . I need the on or off pulse to last 80 seconds then off to save the motor. Your advice would be appreciated
HI Sorry in the delay , I've been travelling with work. Could you not use one the channels free, or use a Basic module adding a delay ?, I'm currently away from my workshop at the moment, however, n my return will look .
All modern Worcester boilers are notorious for having fan problems , these days if I have to service one I don't switch the power off because usually if you do the fan will die and you are then liable to get it working again......they are utter garbage.......👍
I managed to get this working - but I only have about a 70% success rate with the gate/garage actually opening. The switch is very close to both, so there isn't a range issue. I would say "Alexa" open gate and she would reply "Okay" but the gate will only open 7 times out of 10 even though Alexa intones "okay". Anyone else experience that? Could it be interference with the remote being inside the box?
Maybe try adding an extra half or second on the pulse , ? To be fair..... I get different results from Alexa and Google on the Android Auto.... Maybe time I ask Alexa turn on the lights, she says OK.....and I need to repeat myself.....also.....as I drive to the gates..... I sometimes ask Google twice...... however this is only 1 in 10 times....
@@robdotreynolds Thanks Rob - much appreciated. I seem to be getting the same issue when using the Ewelink app directly (i.e. only works about 6 times out of 10)...but I will mess around with the inching/pulse and report any successes.
Hi Rob - I've been looking all over for an instructional video like this! It looks like exactly what I want to do. Please excuse my ignorance, but do you perhaps have a wiring diagram or way of determining where to solder? In the video each button has 4 connections at the bottom to which you soldered 2 wires, but how did you know which of the 4 points to solder? Thanks for the help.
Hi, do you know a way to deactivate the remote connection mode by clicking twice a button? I have flashed the CH4 pro with Tasmota (8.1) and use 4 switches in parallel to the inbuild buttons. Now I want to use the device without any remote-connection. Thx from Germany
@@robdotreynolds ;-) the Sonoff 4CH pro has got an inbuilt RF modul. Do you know a way to deactivate this RF modul? I do want to deactivate the pairing mode! Actually the systems start the pairing mode by clicking a button two times. The issue: if somebody do the double click without using a RF remote ... the systems paired with any RF remote in the neighborhood.
Hi Rob thanks for the top tip regarding the speed controller saved me ages fixing a Worcester this morning 👍quantity video from someone with a quantity surname 😁👍👌😉
Have this exact problem..turned boiler off to go on holiday..came back turned boiler on..didnt fire up an upon investigateing found the fan pcb had blown chips..so will swap it out with a replacement🤞🤞
I've watched other RU-vid videos from the USA, and Australia showing you how to wire these up and you are the only one I've come across that does it the RIGHT way... putting the GREAT into Great Britain and keeping standards HIGH...!!

Nice video , you can setup a scene so when you say one command to either the door or the gate it will open or close both at the same time . Very informative thanks mate , well done and great tip wiring in the switches from remotes to the pro box , great tip , cheers
If you know a little electronics then you can fix these boards easy. Check the 10 ohm 5w resistor hasn't failed and swap out the 4 MOSFETs that control the motor. The MOSFET are IRF830. Before you do this though, it may be a good idea to check the coils on the motor hasn't burnt out. You can check the resistance of the twin coils are the same as the other twin coils opposite, when you pull off the drive board. Good luck.

I can't get this resistor quickly, as is cold and can't wait, I see many different rounded brown colour in Google photos (upgraded?) But can't read the numbers from it, mosfets may not be problem to get . Thank you for clue's. Also on the coils 60ohms...
