This works great if there is a mark or weed on the green near the aiming point, but my club has a perfect green with no marks; how do you deal with this? Thanks
Thank you very much for this explanation. I thought I must be going mad before I heard it. I couldn't understand how a bowl delivered on a faster green could take longer than on a slower one.
The mats we use in the UK don't have the holes described in the video. What a wonderful idea. I've been recently taught to visualise an imaginary aiming point a few feet ahead of me either on the lawn or on an indoor rink, which I find challenging! I wonder why aiming points on the mat don't feature on our UK mats!
Does the same aiming process apply to any bowls? I have been playing short mat bowls using Vector Vs & this season have played outdoors. Apparently my bowls are mainly for indoors & have a narrow bias but I don’t want to buy another set . Thank you for your informative videos.
Very good. Another way is to stand ehind the mat pick your aiming point and 'walk up the line' and omto the mat. I have a lot of metal work in my hips and this gets my hips and everything on that line. If I move to a wider aiming point whilst standing on the mat I FEEL as though I am skew .. my hips haven't come with me. Try it ... :-)
Great to hear what you have to say about the lead. I am new to the game and I am asked to play lead every time, which doesn't worry me but I have been told that I must try to place my bowls at the front and at the back of the head and not to try and get close to the jack. I find this can be a bit discouraging and wonder when I may have a go at helping with a better shot off the start. It seems that I am not good enough and am only filling in for self thought better players. My practise is mostly to get my bowls close to the jack and the more I practise the closer I get. I am pleased to hear you say to have a go and I shall because I want to be part of the team not just the water boy. This looks like a personal gripe but in reflection it is a thank you to you, a gentleman of the game. Thanks Tipper.
It just goes to show people new to bowls, that all the videos about how to hold the bowls mean nothing. John holds his bowl all wrong according to the videos, but he still bowls . And if you watch the videos about delivering the bowls, they all say is should be smooth, not to drop or bounce the bowl, like John does, but he still plays. And as for the line, Aero make 6 models, each with a different line. They also come with 4 grip styles. You can order the bowls you want through the Aero website, so you can order model, size, grip and logo of your choice, and they are competitively priced compared to other bowls you buy 'off the shelf'.
When I bought my bowls I got a size 4, because out of all the different bowls I picked up, they instantly felt comfortable, so that's why I got them. Later, while playing social pairs and having to deliver all 4 bowls, I started to get a sore thumb, so I went down a size and bought some size 3 bowls, same male, model and grip as the 4's They lasted 1 game and 1 practice session before being put in a cupboard, because I couldn't bowl with them. If you can borrow some bowls to try things like this, it is certainly cheaper than putting $600.00 worth of equipment in a cupboard.
When I started bowling I was told several times, to pick a mark on the green and aim at that, but I found it hard to get on target every time. I recently found out, by accident and on my own, to pick a spot on the bank, like the rink markers, and aim at that, and while not yet perfect, my aim has greatly improved, and I get more bowls close to the jack. But I always remember this tip to work out where to aim.
David Edwards David, you do both, look at your mark on the bank, then take your eyes down the line towards you and stop at about 1/2way between you and the jack and deliver to that point STRAIGHT when it gets there it’s at its widest point, then it deaccelerates and will turn.
Hi, I have just took up bowling and am looking at tuition video's each night to help me understand the proper set up procedure! The matt you show in your video to explain to the viewers in how to set up is great, the only problem is, I have and maybe more bowlers around the world have is - we don't have these matt's! Our matt's here in Scotland are black, plain with the sponsors name on it, no holes, no lines or markers, just pure black solid matt's! Maybe that's how we British are not as good as you guy's Many thanks for the video, you sure know your stuff!
It would have been better to cut the ad and show all the range, not just 2 models. Also, we would like to see the line the bowls take, not just where they end up.
There are many factors in bowls tricks. One plan I discovered that succeeds in merging these is the Berts Bowls Guide (google it if you're interested) definately the most helpful blueprint that I've heard of. Check out all the interesting info.
I'm not sure but ,if anyone else is searching for outdoor bowls clothing try Berts bowls guide ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my partner got amazing success with it.

Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else wants to discover how to release bowls ball for hook try Berts Bowls Guide (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my friend got amazing results with it.
this is bullshit on a couple factors 1) it is different on each rink ie: the mat will be placed different points by the leads, 2) you would not be able to do that in a match ( unless a the teams have trial ends ?) and even then see (1) above some matches are played on all the 4 rinks, you change rink after 8 ends and change the apponents you are playing in the same team
